The Mighty/Mighty+ by Storz & Bickel

Hi, I’m new to the forums, love to all of the regulars in here sharing all of your information and insight it is appreciated.

So I just purchased a new mighty vaporiser from

www.shivaonline.co.uk which is an official UK distributor of storz & bickel products, I found them on the main websites store locator.

https://www.storz-bickel.com/eu/en/storelocator/

I have been reading the forums and researching elsewhere and found out that during late 2017 a new updated mighty model was released with a few changes including an extra 20% battery life upgrade, when I recieved my order today I checked the production date on the end of the box and it reads 05-2017, right around the time when all of the confusion was going on about a release of a new mighty model update, this mighty I recieved must be old stock because the production date is 10 months old, is that normal to buy a new product from storz & bickel and get nearly a year old device?

The box is the new white and blue box but is missing the infamous 20+ extra battery life sticker, was this sticker just marketing or are all of the white and blue box mightys containing the better battery life updated model? I couldn’t find clarity or an answer on this searching through through the thread.

Is this the latest version of the mighty with the 20% extra battery life?

The box also came quite dirty and marked up, do you guys think I should maybe return it and request a refund, then purchase another one elsewhere? (Prehaps maybe even get an Easter discount elsewhere if I’m lucky)

If so where is a trusted vendor of the new updated mighty model within the United Kingdom for a good price and with a potentially newer production date, excellent forum and community going on here I will take the time to study the old pages and see what nuggets of gold insight I can find.

Thank you for your time and help.

I did a lot of research on the Mighty, the latest model date available is 08/2017 which in fact comes with the %20 sticker
I had an issue with my first mighty which was produced in 05/17 but got a replacement from them with the new date

Hi, yes this was my exact concern, for peace of mind I think I will return it, does anyone know of another trusted vendor within the United Kingdom that is selling the latest mighty 08/2017 20% models or is my best option to go and purchase straight from S&B direct.

https://www.storz-bickel.com/eu/en/store/my.html

I haven’t smoked in years and want this purchase to be 100% right.

Has anyone bought the
Filling Set for 40 Dosing Capsules?

Link: https://www.storz-bickel.com/eu/en/store/acc/filling-set-for-40-dosing-capsules.html

What’s your experience and thoughts with it?

Or would I be better off buying the
Magazine with 8 Dosing Capsules
And the
Magazine with 8 Dosing Capsules for Liquids (for micro dosing)

I was interested to know from the experienced users on which would be the best to buy for someone who will be using the dosing capsules exclusively, Ive read that the dosing capsules for liquids are good for micro dosing, which I think I will need to do for a little while until I build up my tolerance level up and also to avoid wasting flowers.

How many dosing capsules is needed realistically 20? For rotation, filling, spares and travel. Interested to hear from more seasoned users.

Edit: Thank you for everyone’s input and help in clarifying the latest mighty models production date confusion.

The box you posted a picture of is the newest model. The boxes don't contain the battery sticker anymore. If you return it you are going to get the exact same version from a different retailer.

I got the filling set. Comes with 48 capsules because they give you 40+ 8 in one of those circular carrying cases.
So I used it once. It did a good job. I believe it took right about 6 grams. I didn't make a big mess with it like I thought I would.
I use the capsules all the time. I don't know why but I had a hard time with several of the lids. I didn't have a hard time with lids in my 8 carrying case set I got from PuffItUp previously. I think I had a hard time closing about 10. The plunger is nifty but it ends up collecting ground weed on it. It does make dealing with lidding 40 capsules a little easier.
After that I did like having a whole bunch of prefilled capsules on hand.

For me I guess I didn't use it again because I find it easy to fill one at a time. When I go to poker I fill 8 and take the carrying case.

Over the last couple of months owning the Mighty there are a few items (and one vendor) that if I had to do it over again I probably wouldn't do. This is one of them.

Hi, thank you I was thinking it was potentially overkill and unnecessary for my needs also thank you for confirming, yes I have heard the lids can be pretty tricky! I’m thinking to grab the 8 dosing capsule magazine and the 8 liquid dosing capsule magazine, both capsules are the same size right, one just comes with the extra liquid pads which can then be used either for smaller dosages or for liquid like material presumably? have you tried the liquid ones for micro dosing before, if so what was your experience?

I suppose most people probably don’t need to micro dose on capsules as the capsules already hold less than the native bowl, but from what I have read about the mightys punch it delivers and me being a very inexperienced user lol it seems necessary.

Apparently its not good to load a full bowl or capsule and not finish it in one session, because the mighty continues to heat/cook the flowers even when it is not being actively drawn, resulting in wasted product, so I think the micro dosing liquid capsule is necessary at least until my tolerance grows.

I read that you can put 1/3 fill in the capsule and still get good vape results any less than that you start experiencing a noticeable loss in vape quality. Only put in what you’re going to use.

I also read the capsule caddy comes with 4 empty capsules too, so I’ll probably pick up one of those for spent capsules, maybe another one for the prepackaged ones or just use one of the magazines for carrying them like you do.

Interested to hear of any other recommendations you have along with any elaboration on the items and vendor you said wouldn’t of bothered with if you had access to a time machine, if you feel to and have the time.

Excited to get everything sorted out and share my experiences, I have about 6 pages of information/comments to read on dosing capsules on this thread, I’ll share my findings for others who inexperienced new comers to save them the reading.

I and others have found a good way to reduce load size in a Mighty is to put less flower in the oven and then top it with a Liquid Pad (and you will get one with your Mighty). I suppose you could use capsules and top the small load with a Liquid Pad that they make for the caps, but I have never done this and don't know how well it would work.

I mostly use the caps for the occasional flower/concentrate sandwiches in order to keep the 'trates gunk out of the oven.

I would suggest just getting 8 capsules and see how you like them...then go from there.

I get the impression from the official S&B promotional video that it's easy to fill all the capsules to capacity, but not to fill them all, say, 1/3rd of the way. You'd fill some too much, and no natural way to redistribute, unless you're going for full.

Kind of rules it out for microdosing.

You can do quite a lot in the microdosing arena with a partially filled capsule. With a pad, or even just a sprinkle of loose material. But pretty much it's strictly by hand.

@Homefoodhealth - you might not need dosing capsules; they're mostly about convenience if you're reloading frequently, especially when out and about, but loading the native bowl is easy with the supplied tool.

you're correct that you don't want to put more in the bowl than you plan to use - it's a 'session' vape, not an 'on demand'. the mighty works great with small (i.e. ~.05 g) loads in the bowl with the pad on top. if micro-dosing for you means <.05g, the capsules might be a good idea - I think people have mentioned putting .03g (?) in them. for truly tiny (i.e. .01 g) loads, you might be better off with an on-demand vape or a vapcap.

a lot of people check in here when they buy a mighty, concerned that they might need accessories, but unless you're going to be doing tiny loads, you don't need them. it's a great vape, easy to use, near-zero learning curve, reliable - right out of the box. (but it doesn't excel at hard hash - I think it doesn't get hot enough.)

hope this helps.

There was a few small cracks near the top of mine after 23 months, sent it back and got two great options:
Replace housing for free, or a new Mighty for €79.
A more difficult decision than some would think, but it was kinda worth it to go for the new unit for fresh batteries and some new functions.

Hard to say goodbye to my first Mighty (and I did try asking for it to be sent back without success!) but I'm happy as fuck with the new one, Fuck Combustion!
I notice a good few subtle changes from my 2014 built device, but the obvious ones like boost and timer vibes are quite handy.

(20% extra batteries seem great, I'll update with number of capsules when it dies, but so far I did a burn off and 6 full caps and there's only 2 bars gone down out of 6!)

I think the outer casing of mine looks a touch more grey and I'm hoping it's from them using a better formula to cope with heat cycling over time.
Also bought 40 spare capsules, and I got an XL Mill to cheaply help with hand difficulties. It does help a lot and I like it.

Is this the latest version of the mighty with the 20% extra battery life?

Thank you for your time and help.

I don't believe it is. @Rollingstoned is probably correct because they changed the box design first (05-2017?) then they upgraded the batteries at a later date.
They told me on July 7th 2017 the upgraded battery was not available in Mighty. And they announced the upgrade by email on Feb 9th '18 with a note to buy from the manufacturer to be sure to get the newer unit.

I also just yesterday got a Mighty from S&B Germany, made on 08 - 2017, and it has the battery sticker so it doesn't really make sense that an earlier new style box would not have the sticker yet have the new batteries.

@jdent3 is also correct that some newer (maybe only Crafty?) boxes reportedly don't have the battery sticker anymore.
Probably best to ask the company if you really wanted to be sure.

Whether you want the upgraded battery performance is one thing, but another thing to bear in mind is,
should you ever wish to avail of a factory batteries replacement option,
I'm pretty sure they now cannot change your batteries if you have the older ones. So that would be one other reason to ensure you have the newest model.
I think the improved battery life is pretty serious too and will reduce the amount of charging in your life.
But yes, the old one is still VERY good!

Bought the Mighty like 5 weeks ago and had a great time with it. It's an AMAZING vaporizer!

Some random observations:
  • My fav vape temp: 170-180 Celsius (338-356 Fahrenheit)
  • Low temp vaping = very good flavor, mostly head high
  • High temp vaping = okay flavor, head and body high
  • The dosing capsules fit about 0.1-0.15 gram (depends on grind and herbs)
  • I highly (!) recommend the dosing capsules. They are not expensive and keep the Mighty clean. I seem to get a little more vapor with the caps. Dosing is easy and I did not notice a difference in taste.
  • Want to micro-dose? Get the liquid pads for the dosing capsules. They work great with small amounts, better than using no caps and only the liquid pad.
  • The caps are easy to clean. I use them several times, no problems so far.
  • The Mighty is amazing for passing around in groups.
  • You can't really do anything wrong with this device. Fine grind, coarse grind, long draws, short draws, sipping, caps or not... everything works. I like long slow draws best, but it doesn't really matter how you do it. The results are always good and consistently amazing.
  • Need a water pipe adapter? Buy this one. It's the only wpa I've tried so I have no comparison. But it works flawlessly. Careful though: You might lose warranty if you use a water pipe adapter.
  • The device doesn't get hot at all when in use. It gets warm, yes, but never hot.
  • One full load without a capsule/pad is about 0.255 gram (depends on grind and herbs)
  • If you fully fill the oven your session can easily last more than 20 minutes with like 20 hits. Awesome! Got me high for about 4.5 hours, that's crazy. Loved it!
  • There is virtually no draw resistance (at least compared to the Arizer Solo)
  • If you don't use dosing capsules and want to do small amounts put the liquid pad on top of your load.
  • The only vapes I've tried so far are the MFLB and the Arizer Solo. In my opinion the Mighty is far superior to both of them. The Milaana and a Vapcap M are on the way though. Yes, VAS is real!
Btw, this thread was very helpful. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! :)

This is a great post to read above! I’m sorry to grave dig but I thought I’d pull this post up, it was 60 pages back and I thought it would help the inexperienced new comers and lurkers with some good insight, who are a bit lost, so I thought I’d bump it, I’ll put the shovel away now, thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to respond to me and offer insight, thank you for your patience and understanding, pardoning my ignorance, I am really enjoying reading through everyone’s stories and information learning more and more as I go back through the thread, beautiful community.

For clarification, is the 20% more battery the amount you can vape on a single charge, or the serviceable life of the battery?

If the former, and you don't consider recharging a terrible burden, it packs enough power already for repeated macrodosing.

I suppose it might mean both.

I think the first one, it's mainly the number of sessions. The heat up time is also unaffected.
You're right the original battery is very adequate, but we'll have to admit that more sessions or less charging to do could be a great bonus!
And the point about the older batteries no longer being replaceable by the company service facility, if it's 100% true.
Although certain warranty upgrades, and possible future options like @JCat battery packs might make that a very small point also.

I really don't understand why they wouldn't be able to replace the old batteries with the new ones ... apart from higher mAh they are exactly the same. Seems like S&B is gouging there customers by only being willing to repair their device for a limited amount of time (on something with a shelf life such as batteries! ... crazy that they think it's acceptable that a >$400 device should be garbage after a few years simply because it needs a couple 18650 batteries!)

Edit: this is not typical of S&B from my experience with them ... they usually provide very good product support from my experience

1. While in a perfect world you would consume the entire bowl in one session, you don't have to. I regularly get three or four 2 to 4 hit mini sessions from one bowl over the course of a day or evening. (I find I can pack the caps pretty full without getting too much restriction. Also, lately I've been making most of my caps as kief sandwiches with a ton of kief I got from a friends gift of a pile of trim.)

2. The caps and holders are cheap. Get the magazines and get the caddies; the 48 cap tray is overkill. My routine when heading out for the day is to put to put two or three filled caps in one of the caddies and have the other empty, so I can just dump the hot used cap in and then dump a fresh cap in. This method is so convenient that I do this while skiing, hiking and kayaking.

3. I go through my 17 caps in 10 days to two weeks, depending on whether I party with friends. (I also use VapCaps some evenings.) Once they're all empty, I get out a piece of paper and fill all the caps by hand using doob tubes and using the plunger to help put the lids on. Takes maybe twenty minutes.

So, I do indeed tend to kill whatever I put into the Mighty in a session. If I want less, I put less in and top it with a LP, but I do kill the load in one session.

But, if I wanted to stop a session and pick it up again later, I should think the dosing capsules would work well for this. Hit the Mighty for a couple/few draws, take the CU out, dump the cap out so its not cooking in the hot oven, re-insert the cap for next session.

Yeah, the caps get hot but they also cool off very fast outside of the oven.

Cheers

Not all of them have the 20% extra battery life stickers on them , this was confirmed by puffitup for me when i had gotten mine so no worries. It was on a # of them but after a few shipments they started receiving units without the stickers. Maybe S&B just ran out or got lazy.
Well at some point the 20% battery enhancement isnt't new anymore but normal :p. Maybe we have already archieved this state in the opinion of S&B^^.

A dumped capsule may continue to emit some pretty smelly vapor, particularly if only partially extracted.

I'd expand on @Baron23 's advice and suggest dumping into a sealable container with some activated charcoal.

Indeed, they cool quickly, but I made the mistake of dumping into my palm once. Ouch!

I finally sent my beloved mighty off Tuesday and just got an email saying my rma is closed and a repaired or replaced unit is on the way so we shall see..I know one thing..I need a mighty ASAP..I’m good at home but all day at work and on the go the fury and the air or the CFx is not the same..nothing satisfies like the mighty..and if the other who aren’t satisfied through water are you leaving the cu attached or removing it and going through water?

That’s a pretty standard piece of glass for vaping. I have something very similar, if not the same piece, and it works well for vaping.

With the Mighty and water, I can get bigger hits and blow bigger clouds. I just finish the bowl faster. I also get just as high, and even an initial punch higher due to consuming a bowl faster.

I’m just trying to help brainstorm what might be causing your problem. What are you using to connect to the glass piece? Maybe there’s some air leakage?

I use the 18mm version of this adapter:

maxresdefault.jpg

This is almost exactly what my rig looks like (this pic was posted by another FC member):

5Z3FRpM.jpg

@Boxman I had the same experience when the seal between Mighty and WPA was compromised. Keep it tight and pull hard. Mighty surprised me with the same D020D bubbler you have. It responded with more dense vapor if I pull harder.

I can definitely get denser vapor by pulling harder, but then again, I can do that even more effectively without the water pipe. You can over-wape the weed either way. What I observe is that, with water, I have to vape my weed more thoroughly to get the same clouds and the same high that I was getting with far less pulls sans water.

My ABV is waaay darker after being vaped through water vs the CU alone. With water, it seems I'm having to over-vape the same amount of weed to achieve a comparable high...

what adapter are you using to connect Mighty to your glass? I trust you are eliminating the c/u from the loop when using glass.

Yes, the Mighty CU is completely out of picture when I water vape (see above).
