Very nice pics! I'm so caught up in building, I never get a chance to take such cool pics. You're describing LB perfectly. Love the micro dosing. Yes, I find 5 or 6 bowls from 420 to 365 is pretty common. My bowls are sometimes a bit larger (.08), and swapping out at 365 or so just keeps it consistent.

Coil time once again. But then the fun of assembly begins!

Batch 3 Status Report
All ten coils formed. I am waiting on coil raw material at this point, so I'm coiled out. Should arrive way before I even start the next batch. Cut all switch boxes, and I am reminded how much easier it is not to do a matching switch box. I wound up with a few, but most will get contrasting walnut. I did find a really nice walnut board to cut the switchboxes from.

I then cut each switchbox to length, paired it with a unit. After all 10 were cut (plus a few extras), I did the final *pairing*, or where you chisel, sand, file, to get the switch box to fit. At this point the switchboxes are all a hair big, after pre-assembly, they'll get planed / sanded down to size. But before pre-assembly, I have to drill out the switchbox, virutally making it hollow, with another hole for the actual switch. That little switch you see protrude barely a 3/32nds, is very large inside, extending to almost the back of the switch box. Makes it tougher to wire up, but I like the low profile.

After drilling, it's time to pre-assemble the switchbox to the unit, and cut holes for wires. Once that happens, I can plane / sand to a perfect fit, then finish with beeswax before taking apart and installing all the electronic stuff (battery terminals, coil, switch - that's it).

If I can get beeswax on all units tomorrow, I'm in good shape for an end of week, or to on the safe side, next Monday shipping. For right now, that's the pace. All gains from here on in will be smaller than the initial shop improvements.

The system has been dialed in!

One more thing:
Occasionally a session will lag behind what I've now gotten used to. It's usually one of three things. Most often I was in a rush and didn't dry the herb out quite enough (#2). My absolute best, most consistent, and easily achieved results come when I dry to the point I can break up by hand, getting to a *fluffy dust* that wants to stick to your fingers (any incandescent light bulb works great). I funnel this into a doob tube for easy stem loading.

Most Common Reasons for a Mediocre Session
1. Weak or bad battery
2. Bad flower puck:
That can be for a bunch of reasons -the herb isn't good, the herb isn't prepped properly, the herb isn't tamped properly (loose screen is notorious for ruining the ability to easily tamp).
3. Clogged screen

After rereading my post, I have to add one thing. I don't want you to have to work hard to get a great session. Think of it like cooking. A little preparation will go a long, long, way.

Now for something completely different ,

2 hardshell cases under $5 CAD.

First (smaller ) case is more compact and pocketable for hikes, etc. It holds LB , stem, 2 cells case, something thin to carry your flower (baggie in pic) could squeeze in a pick tool. Only modification made to case was cutting the fishnet on the LB side to better accommodate it.

Second (bigger) case is twice as thick and less pocketable, more of a heavy duty travel case then a hiking case. It holds and houses the LB in foam padding , holds stem, 4 cells case , pick tool , small flower jar and probably more . Modifications made were first washing by hand the foam with dish soap (it reeked robot fart /manufacturing) letting case open a few days to air out , and cutting the foam to accommodate LB and stem . ( the precut for GoPro foam was still included.)

Here are photos and eBay links below :

It's amazing what many minds can come up with. That is very cool @P.A.M.

Batch 3 just got confirmations. Here's what batch 3 looks like right now. Cherry beauties. I had to get my, literally, favorite tool - a precision square from Woodpecker, in the pic. I cannot work if I don't have it close at hand.

What is so cool is that if you're in batch 3, one of those blocks of wood will be your DD.

Hulkette reports back:

1 I do not call her that because she is large and green but rather because.. HULK SMASH!

2 5 stems per bat, 6 hits per stem.

3 Bat exchange at my house dampers the party but does increase my welfare checks.

4 Her and her daughter (Hulkwiena) Love unit. Size and use seems very natural to them.:myday:

@TeeJay1952 Very happy she is happy! Yes, it's quite intuitive.

Hard to believe I'm actually thinking about batch 4. While there is still lots to be done, batch 3 is coming together quite nicely - zero surprises. And yes, batch 3 is a nice place to be in the evolution of LB. All is going according to plan. With this the third build, I am staying one step ahead of myself, so I never have to play catch up, especially at the end (for example, all back plates are cut to size already, making final processing faster).

Taking a deep breath, next step pre-assembly and finish - the pretty stuff.

Sometimes I forget how much can go into pre-assembly. I got a few done, but I'm pretty sure the rest will go a bit faster. All confirmations when out yesterday as well. This morning, my first ten waiting list sign ups were also notified that they will be up next in batch 4.

So we are officially working off the waiting list!!!

If you sign up for the waiting list today, it looks like it will be about 6 or 7 weeks. If you purchase today, about 3 or 4 weeks.

Super happy for the people of Batch 3 & 4, Not much of a wait for such a great, hand made vape !

Nice sunny afternoon , thought I'd bring Lil' Bud to the wood shed, figured I'd bring you all with me too.

I'd have talked more but my better half stepped outside during my first toke and she'd have wondered who I was talking to hearing me talk to the wood shed

0.037g load.

Holy fucking shit, that young man has some lungs. Very, very impressive. Nice to see someone take my LB further than my lungs can handle. Your video probably demonstrated Lil' Bud better than I ever have. Thanks for sharing that, really appreciated.

I love the wood shed!

Notice the post time above (at least on the East Coast).

@P.A.M what was the temp when making the vid.?
0 degrees. Yes , I am aware of CO2/cold air condensation. I think the "herb vapor" can still be differentiated though. You don't see clouds as I talk in first bit.... Kids only pretend to smoke from cold air when its in the -20's around here , this is spring for us :)

Anyhoot, I don't have the personal indoor space to shoot a indoor video right now but I will do one soon enough , with a big lung buster hit for the scepticals.

I think Mike's videos demonstrate very well the LB's abilities to cloud up the air .

Pics of weight scale the other day was basically just for that, proof for doubters, next time I'll add the thermometer:)

Vape on!

Yeah, that was what I was gonna ask, to remake the video when spring emerges.

Dang, man, I had to do a member search to find the scale pic post you were referencing. Could have made life easier by linking post. :p

Went to see the pic of the scale hoping the brand would show, but, no. If you are happy with the scale, be good enough to tell me the make & model. Want one that goes to 1000ths.

Thanks!

Oh I'm sorry! good thing it wasn't too far in my post history .

It says J&J , I don't know if a brand name or what not.. it comes in either 20g/30g/50g . I have the 20g. I am happy with it, I'm not scaling diamonds so even if it was off by hair or so , it still is good enough for my standards or needs. Others might be thrown off because it's China made or not expensive enough to be accurate, blah blah blah . it works fine.. definitely not made to scale an ounce with being Weight area isn't really big , works good to measure micro doses .

Ebay link for scale , please note that not same seller I bought from in dec '16, also mine had hardcase, case seems to be different now..

Do you usually weigh your abv after or just in this instance for the photos? And if so, why?

You are welcome . It was just in this instance to show abv color using the same background . I don't bother to scale the abv otherwise .

I don't always use the .000 scale either. Bought it to know for myself what .03 , .05 was . Even if the last digit is off, I find it's still good indication for .00 measurements accuracy. I find it easy with tolerance to add a lil more herb over time when micro dosing, the scale helps keep track every now and then where I'm at .

Edit : different strains / density = different volume , so it's good for that too.

@P.A.M. Quick question. How fast is your draw? Those clouds are amazing. Thanks in advance.

Speed of draw is only one element. How much negative pressure (suction) you create with the seal of your lips on the stem is a major factor.
>>> Negative Pressure and a Good Session

I have a cheapy scale. I can weigh down to .03 or so. For me, the perfect size load is between .07 and .1 (dry herb). I like my flower puck to be at least 1/16 thick, tamped just right. This acts as a heat filter, keeping things tasty, smooth, and full bodied. I like tasty, smooth, and full bodied sips, not necessarily huge rips.

I'd say slow to medium draw . Did catch myself drawing faster on last hit .
As Mike said , suction plays a role in it, so does feathering (pressing / releasing / pressing switch button again). I know not very helpful, I'm no pro on the LB yet, I find the less I think about technique and just go and have fun, the better results I get. Surely with time I'll be able to better tell what helps or what doesn't.
@Zabou is right in saying that the coil did an amazing job despite the cold. Coil didn't stop herb goodies from extracting and cold probably helped prolonged the session a hit or two by keeping the herb cool.

I dont know what ppl think about cold and if that helps to produce more vapor because ppl see some visuals just by exhaling, but my experience with cold and arizer air 1 or 2, solo, flowermate, alfa goboof and dynavap TI that i am currently use, is that cold temps give your vape a hard time keeping up heating temps on herb chamber, and so i find myself producing whispier clouds and enjoying my sesh less. In general i prefer sitting in a controled enviroment ( house, car ) when vaping so i can get the max of it, so i am happy to see that Lil Bud's coil cope well on low temps outside. Nice !

I really did not want to get into the battery selling business, but there is an add on option for 2 batteries ($20). The *total package* does ship with batteries.

IMRbatteries.com is a great place to buy the Samsung 30q that I like. Sony VTC5a work well also. On the website (user manual), it lists all the batteries, where to get them.

Just like the coil equipped iHeat, the LB doesn't seem to be too effected by temps outside. It doesn't have to heat up frozen glass, just the wood and coil itself is cold.
