Discontinued The Grasshopper

Totally interesting to me... and much appreciated! To make these choices of will, as opposed to necessity... just wow!

EDIT:
TOUCHDOWN!
So this happened today!

First of all, I'm totally surprised because I would have thought Olivia would've sent an actual "Your Grasshopper has shipped!" email notification.... but all I had to go on was her email (posted here earlier) that she would try and get my order out by the end of last week.

She came through. I don't know, One minute I'm seething with resentment all righteous, and the next I feel like I just wet the bed all shameful. But I can live with that. :whoa:

OK, so, having two identical hoppers at the same time brand new and I have this to say at the outset before using one (the other is for a buddy).

The Temp Dials feel identical... tight but not sticky, with an ever-so-slight nuance of "grit"... not in a bad way... and they're identical in that trait too... almost to the point of exhibiting the friction at the same points on their respective dials. And jeez I hope I'm not being too long-winded here.

The difference between this serial number and the serial number of the other one, is about 85, not that can correlate to anything useful.

There is a BIG difference in the clicking sound... it is more distinct (soft, but distinct), AND the clicking continues through the blue lights. The clicking is constant, now. Yes, on both units.

So I tried a taste, and I'm thinking I'd like to see this perform at T3. WTF is T1,2,3, and 4 for if I always have to use T5 for a decent cloud?
Unfortunately, T3 is pretty much a nothing-burger after a few separate draws. I refuse to do the double-click thing. But I'll hold making judgements so as to get through inconsistencies (like herb quality, etc).

I believe that the clicking should have always been constant — it's why it's named the Grasshopper, after all, and is also due to the heater rapidly cycling on/off. My Hopper always had a low clicking when in use.

So, no green lights? :(

How long of a draw are you taking on the lower settings?

Nope, no green anything. Funny, my two Ti's even through multiple RMA's, have always just clicked during the heat-up time. NEVER during blue. Ever.

I would say the draw is anywhere from 9-12 seconds. So far (and I'm only testing one hopper at a time), I am not finding any difference in performance. Recently @Jayd0g420 said his was combusting (not good either lol), and mine is no different than what I've been used to: T4 and up is all that gets clouds.

Again, though, this is with one strain, one chamber so far.

And by “your unit” I’m assuming (and hoping) he’s referring to your gh...

Oh! Let me start over then.

It turns out the green light was just for fun and not a permanent part of the update, to be honest I actually like the blue better so hope this thing breaks soon :goon:

The last emoji is me preparing for the result of my off color joke .... get it? off color? Is this mike broken? is it a grasshopper? thats why I'm so birdy ....

So, I've gone through 2 chambers on the new Ti.
This time, different herb.
Similar, although I have stepped up my start Temp to T3.75. Wimpy clouds, but by T4.5, it's a good production. And I don't have to do the double-click.

Honestly don't know that any of this is helpful. But I will do one more chamber and then use the other new Ti in the same three trials and see if they track each other.

I just want consistency. I can live with a constant T4 to T5 setting. Though I guess I just can't learn to appreciate the effects of the lower Temps.

I found that taking a short primer hit, of maybe 4 or 5 secs or so, exhaling, then taking a normal draw seemed to kick the material into production mode. I would do it as part of every hit.

@vapviking yeah, I had gotten used to doing the same thing, except I would click-off and then click back on. It seemed to work better than "pausing" between the primer and final hits.

Overall, I'm fairly certain that there is not much of any improvement to performance. That's not to say it is not working well... I just apparently have no need for T3 and below, and that's without water. I can handle T5 clouds (ok with a bit of hacking out a cough or two afterwards).

It also seems quite fine on battery life. I can deplete two moderately full chambers on a battery, all at T4 to T5.

I really don't need any improvement in performance, I loved my hoppers as they were, except when they incinerated my herb. I always used them at 5 with water. I tried lower settings and found I'm happiest ripping it at 5. I still conserve herb over my other vapes because I can take one hit and come back later and take another hit, and so on, and so on. One bowl lasts me a lot longer than any other vapes I've used, not that I've used that many, but still.

See, that's just the thing, I'm almost never even able to incinerate my herb. Unless I'm really trying to by leaving a used load in longer than I normally do, there's no way I'm turning anything into cinders (aka incinerate).

Not that I want to, of course... And I use quality various material.

FWIW, I start to believe that the finer I grind, the better, whereas medium-fine grind takes more to get the same output.

EDIT:

"A man with one hopper, knows exactly how to get perfectly high; but a man with two or more hoppers will always be too fucked up to get anything else done." - JoeMama's Law

I got the urge suddenly to set up a vacuum draw system to test and compare the 3 hoppers I have (as well as some others in my orbit). I'm getting too damn high "testing and comparing" them.
I think it will help me understand the device differently. OK, I have nothing better to do, to be honest.

So, does anybody have any idea what kind of pump would be a good workhorse? I know it isn't gonna be a fish pump, but I really have no idea how much suck-power (or how to spec it!) to look for. Went to Youtube but I haven't figured out the right set of keywords.... I definitely do not want a pump that can pull the sides of a pressure cooker in on itself.... just something that will provide enough psi to use with the PFE.

Any hobbyists out there?

Likewise but the option at 5 would be ok if it meant getting results on 1,2 and 3

Don't sell yourselves short, Joe's.
Why should we not expect Hopper to deliver, for our enjoyment, the full panoply* of available flavor and effect through a wide range of temperatures? Otherwise, why even have the dial there?

Ya know,
Almond Joy's got nuts, Mounds don't.
Some times you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

*I've always wanted to use that word somewhere.

And here I thought I was cool when I wore out "plethora".

The dial... yes... why have the dial if T1-3 is useless.

There've been some on here that seem to have a finer pallet with terpene appreciation... But other than that, is there anyone who "gets clouds" at T3??

It might as well be 1 to 3 for heat settings but I have manage to get a good but wispy clouds on 3 with my old hopper but the new one every heat setting is like +1 so even nr 1 gives small clouds

But your know what they always say

"more settings means fancy and expensive" :smug:

Thanks, Baron! Do you also find variances with different strains? It seems that even with "known good" strains, variances from one bud to another exist - judging from the standpoint of Hopper output.

I find differences with different strains with pretty much all vapes. Now, I haven't documented this and can't prove it, but I seem to get much more vapor from sativa type strains then indicas.

When I first got my MV-1, the first load I put into it was some Sour Tangie and man oh man did it give up the visible vapor and was very smooth. So, I go and gush all over FC about it (to the humorous chuckles of those who know I'm not much of a gusher, in general LOL).

But then reality set in. My MV-1 still works fine, but I don't get the same level of visible vapor that I did with the Tangie, some Delahaze, etc.

Now, my flower is pretty well controlled for moisture so I don't think that's the game changer.

The sativa vs indica thing may be a red herring, but certainly I do see significant differences by strain.

Cheers
