I have a feeling there's a good chance the Nomad's tiny design will be copied by another vape company. It's just too genius. And did I mention tiny?

Yeah I wanna just go ahead and pay him and be done with it. I set aside some money for it already

Don't get me wrong, my talk is slightly bigger than my game here, as I think I'm on a later list and that's a good thing...Because I've been drooling over a Burl Woodscent's log from Ed's TnT for many moons now, and that's probably going to be my next purchase, as the new ones should be rolling out and available very soon.

So, I've technically got Ed's money right now...but plan to have Dan's money by time my hour comes, lol.

Hell I'm not kidding in the least. If @Dan Morrison would just take my money now I would be most happy. I would expect nothing other than this would be prepayment for whenever my place on the list comes up.

@marduk , HAH!

More teases, sorry.

A couple beauties ready for final touches/finish.

Love how the shimmering gold of the paper is accented by the brass circle around the button, and the bronze plate on the back.

A photo that better shows scale.

I've been really developing my chiyogami wrapping techniques... I wanted the paper wraps to go over the top and bottom edges of the sleeve, so that the pattern goes right up to the wood.

Both top and bottom edges also get a coat of invisible protective finish that goes over the edge of the paper on the inside of the sleeve. This keeps the edge of the paper from catching on anything.

The paper is then coated with a blend of waxes and oils to give maximum protection against water without affecting the look and feel of the paper.

Nomad excitement now simmering at approx 1 billion Kelvin

Especially @Jammypac 's burl, God I love that wood.

@Dan Morrison , does the 'invisible' stuff you use to make and finish the sleeve dry transparent /translucent ?

I ask as there is a transparent paper listed among the papers you linked to which might look awesome when wrapped in translucent layers:

Sorry, can't figure out how to get the image posted here :bang:

I know there is a lot of customization available for the Nomad, but does it have to have a sleeve? I favor the subtle muted looks of the wood, which I think allows the architectural aesthetics to take center stage. The sleeves are great, but I find they kind of hide the artistic craftsmanship of Dan's creative design. Personally, being half Japanese, I find the extreme attention to detail of every aspect of this vaporizer makes it so special. I believe when the lines of this vaporizer are emphasized, it really shows the amount of creativity and craftsmanship Dan has put into his work. Sorry I got carried away, so back to the question, does it have to have the sleeve?

I rather doubt that my European heritage makes me any less appreciative of fine work, LOL. Sorry, couldn’t let that go, but, no, my panties aren’t in a wad.

As to your question, I think it might look a bit odd without the sleeve on the side with the conductor. Personally, I’m quite happy to go with Dan’s artistic intent, in its entirety. After all, one wouldn’t ask an abstract painter to modify a canvas to suit one’s desire, or a sculptor to modify a statue. I do understand where you’re coming from though.....the wood is beautiful, and I had the same thought early on. :)

I can’t wait to add some patina to mine. I think it’s going to see plenty of use.

Sorry I got carried away, so back to the question, does it have to have the sleeve?

Actually, I'm thinkin' it does "have to have the sleeve" as its currently designed. I believe the sleeve performs a dual role: one is the obvious artistic flair and the other a functional requirement to help secure, I think, the bottom cap.

The artistse, formerly known as Dan Morrison, is apparently wanting to turn these (pun intended) into a satisfying blend of "mass produced/custom art".

In short, the final piece of functional art is a blend of both artist and art collector choices. I've found that whole process amazing, actually! :myday:

Being Japanese, through my culture I have inherited an appreciation of minimalism in art and design. I understand, after scouring the internet, the sleeve has two purposes, one artistic and one functional. The sleeve is an artistic embellishment that protects the wood and also home to the bottom plate that covers the battery, heater, and actuator bar so they are not exposed. I guess you have to slide the sleeve off whenever you want to use it so you can connect the heater to the battery. I hope if Dan sees this, he will consider an alternative method for fastening the bottom cover plate. Sliding the sleeve off whenever you want to vape I think is going to be problematic. Something repeatedly subject to the friction of sliding the sleeve on and off, will wear, and the paper sleeve will be vulnerable to being squeezed in the process. I know with my disabilities, the sleeve, no matter how buttery it slides on and off, will be subjected to much abuse. Anyway, I do realize the sleeve is an essential piece of the vaporizer and not an optional component, which is a conundrum for sure.

Why not just slide the sleeve off after arrival and you get all you want? And I'm sure you don't even need to order one with a sleeve you don't really want. Can't see your problem.
