My Turbine does not whistle if you do not suck it like EXTREMELY hard, in a way that "I WANT TO MAKE THIS WHISTLE!"

And I want to make mine whistle so I am the crazy flute player. I always go hard.

But as these Classic Turbines are not available anymore, I don't know about the new "Precision Turbines".

If its a case of annoyed girlfriend and pets vs lost 150 bucks, why not just chip out the money if you are sure that then the problem is fixed?

Does anyone have a hydrabomb that doesn’t whistle?

I have a Precision Hydrabomb, a Lynx, the Hydrabomb Base, as well as some whip attachments. My EVO generally doesn't whistle. I have to work hard to get it to whistle, not that I want it to whistle. But, having read about this whistling I was curious as to why my EVO doesn't usually whistle, and I also wondered if it may have been defective or something.

Now that I've had it a few months I know that it works correctly, and that the whistling isn't always present. In fact, it usually isn't. I get some whistling if I use the Precision HT and draw hard and fast. And then it's not what I would call loud. I don't think I've ever heard any whistling when using the Hydrabomb base with either the Lynx, the dry MP or with the Precision HT.

I don't have lot's of glass, but I do have two Lynx HTs and have used a third -- they are slightly different in details of how they work (e.g. max fill level, percolation) so I would imagine that each hand-made glass piece is somewhat unique and therefore the draw and sound characteristics can also vary.

Oh, one way I can pretty much get a whistle for certain is if I blow into the bottom of the bamboo when the unit is off and nothing mounted. If I blow medium hard into the bamboo, I do get the whistle sound that's similar to what I've heard other's EVOs produce on videos, etc.

I am pretty sure this is defective but you guys let me know if yours are this loud. I sent the vapexhale support the same video to see what they think.

Doesn’t beeswax on the joint get messy or taint flavor?

I’ve been really enjoying the vape but the sound is making us cringe a bit. I can go buy a mobius and probably will eventually, but I do want the hydratube option as well it’s a big part of the design imo.

That is way too loud and I can appreciate your distress.

I would contact their CS.

I did. I’m sure they will get back to me. I’m glad I’m not picky and you guys aren’t living with whistle tips in your houses lol

That’s way louder and more shrill than any I’ve heard. I think you made the right move sending support the video.

I haven’t personally used beeswax, but I used to use Slide Right on my Evo joint. Since that part of the glass isn’t in the air path, I never noticed any flavor impact. Slide Right didn’t really get messy either. A lot of people use one of those options to avoid glass joint lock. I think that the Evo joint is tapered enough to avoid joint lock though.

That thing is whistling from the very get-go!

I only get a whistle if I suck as hard as I can, but yours seems to whistle even from the slightest suckle.

Mine also whistles, at what I would class as a medium draw speed. I use this as a reference point and inhale just fast enough to make the whistle go away.

Wow, I have nothing like that but my HT is a OG Turbine. That is loud and distinct and worse than what I have seen from others post about wrt to whistling.

Mine doesn’t do that. That’s annoying, send it back. I wouldn’t be able to handle that noise.:uhoh:

When I watched your video, I wondered whether the whistle was from the EVO by itself, just the glass piece, or the two in combination. When did you buy your EVO? Does it whistle at all with other glass? In particular, if you have a standard mouthpiece or one of the first HT's, does it whistle with those?

The history and evolution of the whistle may or may not apply in your case. Hence my questions.

For sure, you should not need to use a joint lubricant. If the lube changes the whistle there is an airflow issue somewhere. (Re joint lock as mentioned above, VXL not only tapers the bamboo joint as is typical, but there is an additional very slight shaving done specifically to help prevent locks.)

Mine whistles. I use it as a means of knowing when I am pulling to hard. I back it off a bit, seems to help with heat saturation of the cannabis as well. If you hear it, try decreasing your draw slightly.

The bamboo is a funny shaped tube and isn't consistent in size throughout, it isn't surprising that it whistles.

I think another user said he put something at the base of his bamboo to help. I prefer the less restricted airflow.

I've noticed that when I ISO soak my ELBs that I will water rinse and then blow through the ELB to help dry off any excess water, when blowing through the ELB you can make the ELBs whistle too.

My evo is brand new and I only have this for glass that is compatible. I will find other glass to try but it is extreme.

Vapexhale customer support got back to me and said it is normal and working as designed. Not to thrilled with that answer. Hoping they let me exchange it for any other hydratube. At this point the perc design doesn’t matter as much as the volume of the thing. We will see.

Does the 30 day satisfaction guarantee or whatever apply to the glass? If so I’ll just return the hydratube. Happy with the vape but the glass not so much. Can’t believe that is how they intended it to work.

I wish I had a decibel meter I may need to find one to be clear on how loud this actually is.

I get the whistle on all glass if I am drawing too hard, even if dry. If you back off your draw, it should stop whistling.

If you are drawing too hard you also pull the heat around the cannabis instead of allowing the heat to soak the THC to evaporate.

It is just how the EVO works, a different vape will have different nuisances. It's a fantastic vape when you adapt to the EVO's intended use! This isn't trying to pull a golf ball through garden hose, if you excuse the analogy. You still get massive rips with a slightly reduced draw.

When the EVO was first released, many if not most units whistled, and unfortunately across a fairly wide range of pitch, too. Seibo told us that the airflow/vapor sweet spot is at the point the whistle begins.

But still, not a few units needed the bamboo replaced. The orifices (aka glass washer) that begin/end the bamboo heat chamber are manufactured to what is a tight tolerance for hand-made glass. VXL did QA the size of the orifice, but the tool/procedure was not as precise as needed. My understanding is that all of this was improved. (I had the bamboo replaced in my Fanatic unit, and the whistle went from a loud pitch on an average strength draw to virtually no whistle at all.) For sure, this issue comes up here much much less than it did several years ago.

@darkrom, my first focus would be to determine whether it is the EVO or the glass piece or the combination, that is causing the loud whistle. (I don't remember HT's being reported to cause a whistle so I am doubtful this is the problem, but I suppose it's possible and I should add that I only use original HT's or my Mobius Ion now, so there could be something I'm unaware of.) I strongly suspect it is the EVO itself (although it's conceivable that combining your particular EVO with your particular glass piece could alter that sound). As has been suggested already, and since you are still new to the EVO, I would experiment with your draw technique and, it at all possible, with a different piece of glass. If you are taking big bong rips, that really isn''t necessary with the EVO. Seibo's initial guidance seems to still be applicable. All that said, if your experiments don't bring the EVO whistle into an acceptable range, I would firmly ask for a warranty exchange. :2c:

I had an evo when they were brand new as well as multiple clouds.

With this particular setup as soon as the water moves enough to produce vapor it whistles loud. If I back off I’m going to get no vapor at all.

@InhaleExhale , did you watch the video? That's extreme, much more than I can get with any of my glass.

Darkrom, you have to try it with something else for perspective.

I thought I remembered you from way back when in the early Cloud and EVO days . . . :D

Then this isn't anything new to you. You know how it should be.

I would lean on VXL then. If I didn't get satisfaction from Support, I would reach out directly to the monkey man, including a gentle reminder that you are an OG & EVO veteran - he will know that your voice is important.

PM me if you need his contact info.

Good luck!

I´ve been doing a bit of off grid evo usage, ie powering the evo using a pure sine wave inverter running off solar / batteries. Now don´t panic folks, I know it say´s on the website not to do this but I pointed out to the rep on the web chat that I run PA´s, projectors, lights etc off grid and it would be a bit embarrasing if I couldn´t power my evo.
So she had a chat with Siebo and he said it would be ok presuming it´s a "high end inverter" ie pure sine wave and ideally not a cheap crappy chinese one. Btw I´ve been using a Xantrex prosine inverter, I think it´s a usa company, the important thing is it´s pure sine wave so it´s just like a house supply.

So I thought I´d see how much the evo draws at the wall. This is a 220v volt (uk / eu) version

On warm up (warming at 12) it used between 102 and 73 watts, it´s possible the peak could be higher but the meter was digi not analogue so can´t be 100% definate.

Once it reached temp or when it needed to regain temps it was using slighty less, fluctuating between 75 and 60w

When it was just on standby it was drawing only 1.8w

I tried heating it with the dial on 5(full) and it drew 108w

So I´d say it uses a max of 150w or you could run it with only a 150w inverter, although I´d recomend 300w so you´ve got plenty of headroom. As I said I was using my old xantrex which is 1800w, but it´s running loads of other stuff at the same time.

On a different note my evo is still whistling, I can get 2 different tones depending how hard I pull, after 2 months. I did read it would go but mine hasn´t. I´ve had to use a thin bit of cotton material wrapped over the bamboo, it also acts as a filter. The draw resistance is a bit worse but the evo is silent at any draw speed.

And finally does anyone (uk or eu) know where to get hydra tubes (non vapexhale) from ? Do they even exist or is it a chinese thing?

Great post re the wattage.

I know I'm getting really old, but I don't see how the whistle can change with time. It's a function of the airflow through a solid channel.

There are 200 posts on this thread which mention dhgate. Chinese knock-offs, but IIRC many report pretty good value for the money.

Why does the EVO even whistle? I mean, I know it has the washers in different places than the cloud. Is that all? My cloud has never whistled no matter how hard I pull on it. It seems like a big compromise in favor of room for the nails. I keep my IGG EVO for dabs and as a back up in the horrible, unspeakable possibility my cloud one day goes out.

As a hard hitter, the whistle keeps my EVO shelved. Maybe I should see if I can send it in to get a quieter bamboo? The best part to me about the cloud is you can just rip it with all your might.
