Boundless Tera

Well yeah but there is water vapor in the air we breathe in and out (aka humidity), so I assume when blowing through the air intake, the water vapor that is within the air that we exhale is converted to steam/mist due to the high temp oven it goes through. My Tera doesn't show any fume/vapor/steam/mist otherwise, and the taste has gotten better, so in a plot twist I think I'm gonna give it another shot.

Doesn't the above make sense? Do correct me if I'm wrong here, but only if you're a scientist or else can prove it with another new vaporizer somehow :)
Well, I think it may be just the opposite. Warmer air can carry more water vapor than cooler air so I would not expect to see water vapor condensing into visible clouds when passing the heater.

But what do I know LOL

Alright ladies and gentlemen, here is my review, in bullet points

:leaf:Note that all of this is assuming the device is safe

:leaf:The device is a BEAST, gets me higher than the CF/X

:leaf:Despite getting me higher, strangely it does it with very little vapor.. Yes I know that a convection based vape will have less vapor than a hybrid vape, but in the video reviews there were BIG clouds, just like if it was a conduction vape

:leaf:Reason for the above can likely be due to low amount of herb that I put in (I don't fill the bowl, I put in very little) and also I don't grind fine

:leaf:The air is NOT harsh on the throat as the CF/X on the same temps (I vape 400F). HOWEVER this is only valid when using the swivel mouthpiece, as with the glass mouthpiece it's the opposite for me, the glass gets hot in 2 seconds and burns my lips - unbearably hot, I will not be using it

:leaf:Tip: You can basically live without the 5 clicks completely (just once, out of the box) - The device can just be on regular off or 'standby' mode if you will, so a long (3 sec) press to start and another long press after an auto shutdown (after 5 minute) and you can also long press to make it stop heating. So no need to ever 'shut down' the device with 5 clicks

:leaf:There are still many fails with this unit even if you have a safe one, such as the unstable WPA (personally I don't use it so don't mind much), the battery indicator that is far from accurate and sometimes won't update, like yesterday after 7 straight burn offs it still showed full battery, and then there's the manual and other 'small things' that are awkward, including boundless response

Ive not had any issues with my battery indicator. First I'm hearing about it now. I couldnt imagine doing 7 burnoffs lol. Would probably just tear the whole thing apart and wipe it down. That many fumes would probably mean that something's not where its supposed to be.

I've had the opposite effect with harshness. After I get a couple pulls and the vapor starts, it gets harsh as a mofo for me with either mp on it. I've also not seen any wispy vape until my last pulls. Most of mine are milky messes. What temps have you went up to? I usually vape at around 400f. I'm assuming I'm actually getting more around 380 since there is no heater in the bowl and i believe the temp is being measured from the heater. That's been my experience with previous convection vapes anyways.

I vape at 400F all the way, but I don't pack the bowl with herb full, my tolerance is low and even microdosing works for me :ko: And although clouds are fun, if I get high it doesn't matter much, and the material does get fully vaped and brown. But I'll try packing more and see if I get more :)
The burnoffs I did yesterday were with a light on the chamber and blowing air though the intake holes (was worried after seeing the vids here) and I kept seeing this steam, but then I noticed the same effect on other vapes too and assume it's normal. Others report seeing fumes without blowing air and/or without having to shine a light on the chamber - that's a different story and doesn't sound safe.
As for battery indicator, it's not the first vaporizer where the battery indicator acts up or jumps- they are notorious for that, even on the CF that uses the led lights to show battery level, it's not consistent.
Ah well, all in all I'm happy with the device and see it as an upgrade. Will try modding :D

”In regards to that off-gassing, it's not unusual for there to be left over manufacturing oils left on the heater. This happens occasionally with all vaporizers, your Tera.”

Well, I don't think so.

"I don't play that"

Has anyone heard back or got instructions to return back to boundless from contacting Eric via email. Going on 2 days now and I have no reply back from him or any boundless entity.

Don't count on it, Eric (and boundless) post their email everywhere but rarely answer it. I'm saying this from personal experience and from others'. In the past I haven't heard from them for weeks, only to hear excuses.. Had to contact them on Facebook to finally get reply. As for this time - No I haven't heard bacl from Eric but I also created a ticket on the website for return, and I got a response from them asking for address and email.. seriously? I'm a registered user and they can see my email in my account and in the ticket I created, and of course my address is on the order! You are so much better if you ordered from PIU or Vaposhop, who already sent their customers return shipping labels. I decided to keep my Tera so lucky for me I don't have to bother with their CS, but needless to say I am done with Boundless.

mine seems a good unit (only a lil bit of offgassing in the first seconds of the fist i time i heat it up, it was first burnoffs in concentrate mode). If i don't go over 205 celsius it don't produce strange burnt iron smell, it seems good, but when we could know if this vape is safe?

Alright guys, it's time for my first mod :leaf:

Not really a mod as it can be done on other devices, but it's the most deserved here! Magnetic mouthpiece, magnetic battery case, and now magnetic charging!

Your is a good tera?

Yes, I assume it is, and for now it seems to be up to us to decide if ours is faulty or not..

but If something happens to me and I become a ninja turtle (or Magneto), I want you to cherish my memory :lmao:

Edit: I forgot to add emoji, so I edited the post and entered that one emoji - that's all that was edited. I am now mentioning this to you :D

I've now tested a friends unit over a couple of days....

When trying to remember how to set temp and fire it up with lid/mouthpiece off, I accidentally set it unexpectedly and it fired up creating a fair bit of smoke fumes with a distinct combustion smell or charing.
It lasted about 10-15 seconds and I turned it off and looked in the heater- could see tiny amount of fine black dust.(possibly fine material/kief??)

No metal, plastic or organic burning smell at all after clearing it out but decided to let it cool and pack a bowl.

Flavour at first was good but Im still new to convection portables, it felt fairly muted but very smooth all the way through in general, the vapor was dense and full and you can pull for ages for a big hit.... Although I could taste something across the herbs like a rubber/silicone/plastic polymer type taste.

Im fairly sensitive to silicone in new vapes anyway but this tastes different to previous experiences.

When trying the glass mouthpiece the flavour was inferior:hmm: how does that work??

The flavour with the glass mp tasted more contaminated by a foreign presence, harsh and plastic/rubbery background not enjoyable.
This could be really good but I just dont trust it at all.

It is hard to believe how they got a lot of basic design in the functionality so wrong- nice fit in the hand but the buttons just aren't available for single hand operation...with an upside down screen to boot.
The software is also buggy and the button navigation is sloppy. And the unit struggles outside in the cold, I seemed to get more issues with the display/software in the cold too.

Its got potential for sure but not quite the finished article in my eyes, I get better flavour from conduction units without questionable build materials or performance.

If they could iron out the kinks and flavour then maybe its a top end competitor but right now, not really.

Okay had time to test mine now.

The first time I turn it on at 160c I noticed in normal lighting a huge amount of gas and a horrid plastic burning smell. I run another 5 burns at 160c and the smell continues and gassing still visible from time to time.

I then put it on concentrate mode and a huge amount of gas comes out. Looking under a torch is like the earlier video posted with a huge amount of smoke/gas coming out and the horrible smell continues. I've now run two whole battery cycles and it's not going away.

Something very wrong with this and I didn't get even get to the point where other users needed to blow into the intake to see fumes. They are clearly visible without doing that.

if you have a faulty one like this you would know pretty quickly and it really is quite severe and I wouldn't put it anywhere near my mouth.

For background info covering the holes at the bottom and sucking through unit and it feels like milkshake. Doing it the other way and it still leaks air (but a lot less). The grill is lined up correctly with the ceramics and it has a QC passed sticker..

I reached out to PIU last night, today they quickly responded and sent a return label.

I ordered one of these from PIU. And I’m so glad I did order through PIU. At this point I’m not sure if I’ll even open it or just return it. I really had big hopes for a portable convection unit that has a replaceable dual 18650 battery and NOT a stem load. I love my Zion but was wanting to keep it at home and use this on the go more. I guess we’ll see.

Listen... If you're from the lucky ones and got a properly working one (Note that we have no estimate about the chances of that - because we don't know the ratio between good and faulty ones) - The Tera is a curvy BEAST . This is a very powerful device, I am impressed and very happy with it.

It goes to show how honest I am :) I have no agenda here, I say the truth for better or for worse. Tera is a good vaporizer, regardless of its parents :p

Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
Unit sent back. Waiting for better times.

Eric is on this and they’re trying hard to get the Tera back on track. I have great faith and will be patient. I’m really sorry for them, saddening. What a nightmare roll out...
Will keep you guys posted!

@HD Springer I would wait for their confirmation to have all issues fixed first. I can’t imagine how anyone’s unit is “ok” from the get go, but even it was - with all that I had to experience in mind - I would certainly worry, if everything remains safe. Your call, of course. I just want my peeps to be safe ! :peace:

So I got my Tera this morning. I've been lurking this thread quite a bit and the problems made me rather nervous.
Yup, my bowl is off-center and the smell is pretty bad. It doesnt smoke it its own, but it does when I blow into the air intake. I do need a light to see it.
I've done done three burnoffs at 220c right now.
I'm really uncertain whether the taste and smell are just because its new or something is actually wrong. The swivelpiece tastes pretty bad too. I'm not ready to admit defeat just yet, so more burnoffs it is.

I REALLY wanted to make the switch to vaping today.. Bummer.. The device does look and feel great in the hand, and what sold me is that the S&B capsules fit.

I did the same after having Eric from Boundless email me back with their offer. If you send the Tera back to them they will give you a temp vape from their lineup to use in the mean time. But you have to fill out some form and stuff and it seemed easier for me to just send back to PIU and try an exchange. There is no other vape from Boundless's line up that I would opt to use though.

I have nothing to loose by trying another one just too see.......I am expecting that it will end up we need to wait for 2nd run stuff if the prob is fixed quick.

Honestly, refrain from using it - that's exactly what Eric told me to do - and to send it back until they have the quirks worked out.
You can still jump on the train again once it's safe... Get something else in the meantime I'd suggest. Just have a look around :)
