Just to confirm it's the small PTFE ring first then a filter disc then the PTFE tube?

That is correct. I haven't put them in the wrong order before but I have gotten my ring stuck in the unit before making it hard to remove. I was able to get it out by using a thin flat head screwdriver and very gently prying it loose from the chamber, being extremely careful not to accidentally damage the unit. I hope this helps.

Also I don't recall getting the 2mm SS ring when I ordered my decarb kit a while back, just the larger 14mm tube. Has the decarb kit always been sold as 2 pcs. or was it ever sold as one piece?

It should have come with both rings when you purchase it. If it didn't come with it included that must have been a mistake on herme's end. I'd shoot them an email.

Thanks for the tips I'll give it a try.

It was a while ago I purchased the SS decarb. kit so I can't remember exactly if I received the smaller SS ring or not. Maybe I'll find it hidden below once I get my PTFE tube out ;)

So I did indeed manage to find the smaller SS ring below the PTFE tube but and now having trouble getting the SS ring out ...

Anyway the screen below the ring is quite dirty and I'd also like to replace the screen where the air intakes. Is there anyway to safely open up the MV and give it a good clean out? I notice some screws at the base of the core unit what tool is required to open it up?

Also in general my unit is quite dirty. What is a safe solvent to clean the hard white plastic exterior of the unit. And the flexible white silicon cone? around the loading chamber has been discolored. Does it just pop out or is it stuck in place? I don't see replacements listed on the MV website either.

Thanks

A buddy had that but we found the cause of his. He was a chamber loader too (didn't use baskets) and he got particles/bits/crude past the chamber screen and it built up below. When cleaned, it went away.

When you had chamber screen out, did you invert/tap/lightly blow into mini's bottom :)

My miniVAPs have no such smell and have the best flavor of all my vapes
My MINIVAP TASTE is AMAZING?
Gh7PSoh.jpg

I load a basket that goes into the camber!
Best FLAVOR next 2 da vAP 2 (dis-continued?)
The MINIVAP is #1 4 portables (FLAVOR wise)
I don't have a pen or pencil so I must put down my thought!
Dude FUCK'N LIGHT-BULB?
If I still feel the same N' da morning?
What a thought?
Wait we have been tricked?
CANNABIS make one smarter?

civilization + cannabis = modern life = MINIVAP LOGIC (if you care about yourself?)

No you'll have to send it in for that type of maintenance I'm afraid.

What I do is use a blunt wooden instrument to carefully get underneath the ring on every opposite side, about half a mm. then do a half circular and upward move to gently slide it up. If it makes any sense...

You can get all TOP screens out for cleaning, same method as above, although its obviously a screen not a ring. The FIXED bottom screen should do with a gentle brushing with the provided tool.

I use 420 Wipes (but any 99% ISO and paper towel should do) for the hard plastic top and cap, on the Flexicone hot water and then splash some ISO and hot water rinse.
You can remove the silicone outer protective ring, no problem. I asked Jorge about it a while ago and he confirmed it is removable. Just carefully pry it from the outer edge, on opposite sides.
It can be cleaned with ISO but don't let it soak, I just wipe it a few times with an ISO dampened cloth and then do a water rinse afterwards. Only removed it once and it didn't do much either. Any dirt will be on top?
Discoloring may be due to accumulation of residue over time...
You can find replacements of everything on their site, apart from the outer silicone ring. It is pretty hard to damage IME.

Hope it helps!

Thanks all! Finally managed to get the lower SS ring out

One last question ...

Should there be one loose mesh screen between the fixed mesh screen and the lower, smaller PTFE/SS ring?

So from top down:

Large PTFE tube
|
Loose mesh screen
|
Small PTFE ring
|
Loose mesh screen
|
Fixed mesh screen

Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I did invert, removed both screens & tapped & brushed & also gave a gentle vacuum.
I didn’t blow though the bottom hole I think I read somewhere not to do that.
It is squeaky clean like the rest of my gear but I took your advice & gave it another go.
Removed the decarb kit & gave the chamber another gentle cleaning.
This time there was a little residue on the walls possibly built up from the burn offs I’m not quite sure.
I cleaned that off & put the teflon rings in there for a change & put it through some heat cycles.
I’ve repeated this a few times cleaning the walls of the chamber each time & the smell is definitely fading now. I guess that must have been the problem.
Looks like it’ll be getting some use again soon so I’m pretty happy with that but I think I’ll buy some new flexicones just to freshen everything up.

@ataxian

How are you loading your MV?
Directly in the chamber or the Flexicone and basket?
I always use the basket to keep things nice and clean but have read of bigger clouds and performance with direct loading. I like to keep mine clean!

I have some nice White Walker Kush in mine at the moment!

One more thing!
Have you harvested the lovely honey oil that collects at the tip of the Flexicone?
Just had a lovely free dab after my MV session!
Can't beat free hits of concentrate!

A buddy loads direct in his chamber while my miniVAPs have never seen a direct load. I gave him the miniVAP and it looked very very clean with only slight discolor to teflon liner after months of my using it. With direct loading, he got it dirty/stained looking/ used in a hurry.

Bigger clouds and performance? To me, the clouds with direct load were not necessarily bigger but maybe slightly quicker to extract initially but Flexi baskets catch up later, extract for a slightly longer time. I'd say it is sort of like the "DecarbKit/ stainless liner" that hits harder but depends what "performance" means to you.

For me, as a flavor chaser, the direct load showed me no advantage over Flexis and had many disadvantages.
I often load whole, small, calyxes that I tweezer off and flavor seems comparable with Flexis or with direct load**

** with direct load you can (and likely do) get nasty ABV particles down into the mV innards. His direct load MV had the taste get "off" when this happened :( After years of using my miniVAPs with Flexis, innards have never needed cleaning and chamber stays 100X cleaner.

Flexis are so easy to add a hemp filter too.
I view Flexi modules as one of the best accessories in the entire vaping world, as we know it ;)

I try to mod almost all my vapes to use Flexis and when looking at a potential new vape, try to find out if Flexis would work
and if they do, it's a big big plus!

@ataxian , how do you load your miniVAP? Let's see the innards.
And everyone knows that using the Flexicone/baskets is truly civilized :)

I used it without a basket at 1st and it work's.
However I use the BASKET these last few sessions?

Then FLAVOR is very good!

Then MINIVAP is for those not scared!

CANNABIS should not be messed with?

MINIVAP is the best portable known to the race we are?

CIVILIZED = MINIVAP

I agree, especially if you have a glass core.

It has been copied many times over... Same as the conduction/convection mix, right?
Even one of the first to effectively use convection for a portable?
STILL one of the most innovative vapes out there!

Am always amazed at this bit of kit.

Also heard through the grapevine there's great news coming soon... :brow:

Hi Folks,

I mentionned some times afgo there was a sort weird smell in both my Minivap's although since some weeks I use the glass core without flexicone and the weird smell faded a lot since... I don't know if this is comes from the fact some flexicones are pretty old and yellowish or some are quasi-brand new although I think I will eliminate the flexicone from the equation. It was a must for the Minivap older version but doesn't for the quick glass core.

I can't qualify myself as a silicon hater although...

I don't care about BLING!

However FLAVOR is fun.

The MINIVAP is very tasty.

My strain is GUAVA and the MINIVAP is perfect for this strain!

Please let me know what else is over the top?

GOD'S GIFT
GUAVA
MAUI WOWHIE
GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
DOS SIDIOS
STRAWBERRY LEMONADE

So far so insane!

MINIVAP is for a true lover of FLAVOR.

EFFECT DEPEND'S on STRAIN (POV)

I am still using the original baskets and flexicones i received with my 1st Minivap 4 years ago!
They are discolored but are still as strong as day one!

White Walker Kush last night had me floating!
I want to put that strain in my MINIVAPE.
I love CANNABIS so much!

The MINIVAP must love CANNABIS too?

WHITE WALKER KUSH (sound's like a winner)

I will find it! (remember the film "TAKEN" with LIAM)?

Me tomorrow on the hunt for more CANNABIS!

I only have 30 gram's right now! (Low I KNOW)

Hi Lazy, you crack me up with your strain names. I only vaguely remember the correct names. It's like when I'm flicking through the TV's on-screen "guide" and my subconscious puts different shows together.

Like "The Real marigold hotel", followed by "BBC News at 10"...for a split second in my sunconscious becomes: "The REAL news at 10"!!!

So whenever some of my trillions of daily thoughts drift over your stains, my mind starts assembling all sorts of random new strains, like "White cookie grapefruit punch", or "Lemon Kush Orange Tiger" or...gettit?;) (usually the names are far more original and fitting, brain just too tired for creativity presently).

Please keep those names coming, I could use some more lego bricks for when my imagination is up and running again

Lego Brick Red-Bear Kush anyone?:)
