wait... as far as I know, you can't use magnetic induction to directly heat up herb or concentrates? And if a heating element uses induction, it's still a convection vaporizer? Just with a fancy heating element?
how's the draw resistence on the Lux? i think that's the main con of the vapcaps.
a heating element like in that first page (glass tube + mesh) could be nice to do convection dabs, with a normal quartz banger nail? Just use it instead of/on top of a carb cap to blast in hot air, and don't heat up the nail with a torch?
maybe a microwave vaporizer would be possible.. lol

...you can find it here on FC. It uses a vapcap. Dry herb induction is already here.

OK you got me, never heard of that.

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vapcap-induction-heater-for-desktop-and-in-car-use.23211/

right so that device requires an outlet of some kind and was conceived in 2016, a full 3 years after and still requires too much power to run on a single 18650 battery, and fit in that form factor. then again, thats a MUCH better starting point then where Loto Labs started. (a desktop experimental test lab 3 years back).

You guys beat me to it on the VapCap front.

Look at the size of the current Lux. It is larger than a PortSide Mini + a VapCap, lol.

Thats funny, but I actually think they have managed to shink this tech a little bit more than that.

Conduction. Induction makes conduction with a faster heat up time. not convection.

No one has received a Lux yet, so no one can answer any of those questions. Sounds like t-dub is about to get one though.

depends on whether the heating element is before the material on the airpath, or in direct contact with the material. same as with say, resistive heating or whatever else. with the pipes' induction heater + a vapcap, it's a combination of both.. the air flows under the cap through the hot tip/cap, and the hot tip is in contact with the material

wonder what meshes (like in that glass tube, video on 1st page) are safe to use.. maybe just the steel screens used for smoking. or would a "curie alloy" be affordable?
could make a nice unregulated vaporizer.

edit: the element on the 1st page loto labs vaporizer demo video just looks like it'd make a great convection heating element. however since he puts glycerin on it, it's acting as a conduction heater.

PortSide Mini, single battery.

As many original backers, myself included have written? If they ever deliver any product it will be a "win" at this point. Especially given the WTF?!?! enjoyment we have all gotten with the never ending wackadoodle product updates and this thread. :p

The device(s) runs on 18650 batteries and/or plugged in. You need to educate yourself before posting more my friend.

OK. my point still stands that the Lux was conceived in 2013. this was supposed to be the first. also, vapcap portside was 2016 requires a few 18650s, and separate heater and cap. This is not that.

This runs on one 18650 and is a vape on its own. Not an induction heater for a separate vape.

Just look at the design. The bowl is next to the heater. Its not convection. Its conduction.

Very well put. Induction heating is only a heat source. It can be used for conduction or convection depending on how you design the vape as you pointed out.

But its not. So that point is moot.

The fact is that we are already using a induction device to vape our herbs. It is okay with me that you fail to grasp it. Vape on my friend, now, on to my skeletor.

Whoa, man, I dont fail to grasp anything. No need to get hostile. I fully understand vapcap has an induction heater that can be added to it. but that was announced in 2016. Lux/Evoke was 2013 which was before. It was going to be the first portable induction/conduction vape, and still is. Its not just a heater on its own to be added to another device and its not convection. Now lets all take a vape hit and relax.

Let's agree that Lux has send out an email claiming that.
Touché. But it's not difficult to do (hell I could turn my Mini Portside into an induction portable concentrate vape in a matter of minutes if I really wanted to), so I don't doubt their claim. My point being that it's not very much of an achievement IMO so I'm willing to let them have that "title". If they can't even deliver on that, well that just takes the disappointment factor to the ultimate level.

In any case, I don't think it's worth bickering about.

It would have been somewhat of an achievement in 2013 or 14 when they thought of the product lol. Now its just another way to heat herb. This is pretty unsettling for those of us that bought into this originally as a herbal device mainly. It's too bad we cant get him to give us our investment money back at an interest equal to the time it was invested.

I'm not sure what the creators goal is here now. A 400 dollar dab unit... It's safe to assume that he's not going to make a ton of money off this. Especially after the ...not amazing turn around for his first vape rofl.
I think he would have been better off trashing the idea, refunding the money and making a different, simpler device that works that he could turn out quickly. He must have had a ton of money from someone as a driving force to keep at it for so long. I do remember seeing him on vacation a few times throughout the years..

Vacation and more funding was needed over and over again.

He probably spent it all already. Remember he needed more funding multiple times. There is nothing for him to give back to you.

Lets see what the performance is like before we criticize it. If it's the best concentrate unit in history, maybe it really is worth $400. I really truly doubt it though. No idea what the battery life is going to be like either. It runs on one single 18650 battery.

I'm looking forward to your review of the ever-illusive Evoke.

We'll see how it goes, I honestly have NO idea what to expect at this point.

Well . . . it seems we are off to a rocky start. I just got this e-mail . . . :uhh:

I don't think that 122*F is strong enough to vape anything except a few terps maybe . . .

"Hello!

Guess what? You're receiving literally one of the first 15 Loto Lux units to go out to the public. You were an early supporter indeed.

We shipped ourselves units too from the distributor, and received them today. We immediately noticed we failed to remove a safety feature that locks the firmware up at a lower than optimal temperature. If your Lux LED button is turning red quicker than you think it should, this is why. Your Lux is safe to use, it just has a heat limit of 50C (122F).

Luckily, Lux firmware can be upgraded! We have a fix and are working on the best way to deploy it. We will be in touch VERY SHORTLY with instructions on how to update your unit.

We also noticed a lot of shaking during shipping which led to us receiving some broken capsules. We’ve already adjusted our packing process to secure them. If your capsules broke during shipping, please let us know and we'll send you new ones.

Feel free to reach out to us at any time and let us know how you like your Loto Lux or with any feedback, and expect to hear from us again very soon.

Thanks again for being part of this great experiment and we hope you come to love your Lux as much as we do."

Peace, love, and shipping,
Team Loto Labs

Almost there...
Thanks for sharing that @t-dub ...I needed a good morning laugh!

Now we get to watch them learn how to ship stuff.

Anyone else notice them referring to it as an ‘experiment?’

Sounds like they may require another international vacation to discuss the "locked" software...
Interesting that they managed to test it out but then locked all the "production" units.

Its like a giant Pipes induction heater with some basic software...

What a load of crapitalist doublespeak yuppie bollox....................highly entertaining thread never the less!
I would be so pissed if I recieved this and it only did concentrates..............its like forcing you to drink vodka when you only want to drink beer!!
A roll of Baco-foil and a lighter only costs £2. The most efficient way of doing concentrates is to chase it imho.

Peace love and SHITTING

Over and out TOT

ok, more communication from Loto Labs today.

First, my unit has shipped and should be here Monday. I'm going to take my time testing this one as there are so many variables that have been in play and I wish to be fair to everyone concerned.

Second, there has been a clarification from support on the temp sensor issue:

Loto Labs said:
Hey Thomas,

We removed the temperature limit immediately after notifying you of it. The Lux only reaches that limit when the internal temperature reaches 50C, not the vapor-producing induction coil itself. You probably wouldn't even notice the limit unless you were blasting the Lux for an extended period of time ,which we were, and was how we noticed it was there on the first units we shipped. If you have an iPhone, you will be able to update the firmware yourself shortly.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns, and have a lovely weekend.

Peace, love, and vaping at high temperatures,

Soooooo . . . there is definitely some confusion with the wording in the two different e-mails I have received. Also, I use Android products not Apple so I am a little miffed about that aspect.

My only ace in the hole is that when the campaign started they offered a loose leaf version and a SEPARATE oil/wax version, so I ordered one of each. This means I will be receiving a second unit that will not have this firmware issue and I will be able to compare.

Yes, I know, they got me twice. The second unit was $99 since the early bird units were gone. I think my first unit is #15 and the second one is around #40.

I will keep you guys updated as news comes in . . . if you believe in a god, pray for me . . . :peace:

Hi @t-dub how did you know about your order n°, please?
I'm in the same case, I ordered 1 early bird(79$) and another at 99$ since they wasn't supposed to do both concentrates and dry herbs.... this is seems crazy now but, in 2014, it wasn't. The Cera was avalaible in 2 versions also... and it was considered like a "must"!

Hi @t-dub how did you know about your order n°, please?
Well they told me in an e-mail that my first unit is in the first 15 units sold. If you go on indiegogo under campaigns and view details you can see your order ID. Mine says 40 and was placed 6/12/14 so I assumed I was near the last of the first 15 units. My second order has an ID of 1463, placed 8/5/14, sooooooooo, its hard to extrapolate exactly which # that will be, I may not be getting it for a while.

Mail is a day late . . . I've noticed that USPS has been off a day since the Super Bowl, everything I am getting is a day late now.
