Discontinued Ghost MV1

I gotta say, I've liked then disliked this device. Sometimes when it works for a few hits I like it. Then is sucks and I stop liking it. Right now, the company sucks as i have asked for a replacement in September or October, told in November an app was coming, and now all emails since Christmas have been ignored. All I asked for was a replacement. And radio silence....

Def go on vape critics forum and talk to Patrick on there. Ghostvape official is his username. He will will take care of you with your exchange

Actually within minutes today!
I have been having troubles with my MV1 working consistently, so i contacted Patrick this morning and he replied with some tips!
It was suggested i watch their new videos, which i did and from the videos i was doing everything correct!
Patrick suggested carefully watching the heat sink assembly and test it out for air leaks.
I did this about 3 times without any luck! Always an air leak...

So i took it apart again and scrutinized each and every part!
I found this nub of plastic left on the top part of the heat sink, it was about 1.5 to 2mm in height.
When i placed the black silicone bit in the top it lifted out at that spot and when assembled it lifted the entire backside of the heat sink slightly, hidden by the back of the vape.

When i used it i would have to push like crazy on the heat sink and sometimes it would work and sometimes not...

Grabbed my hobby knife and attempted to slice it off, did not know it was plastic at first, and it sliced off nice and cleanly! Left a nice round black circle!

Now when i assemble the heat sink it is snug and tight and no leaks at all!

I also ground up my bud using my Boomers Stainless Steel grinder for that super coarse grind.
Filled up and slightly tamped the load in the crucible, add lid and insert.

Started at 175C and the first hit was amazing!!
Up to 200C for the next 2 hits and great flavor and clouds!
Apart from the high pitch squeal, this vape is solid!
Going to have to try concentrates in it one day!

This is the nub i was talking about.

Great news...glad you are in business now! :-)

Thanks Bro!
Just tried a fine grind and it works just as well!
That seal on the heat sink has to be 100% or it just lets in too much extra air.
Stepping away from the heavy one hitters for a while and now that the Ghost is working, it will be my go to!

EDIT:
Just opened the crucible and the fine grind actually vaped more evenly than the coarse grind.
I did not tamp the fine grind down at all.

After messing around with it for a while I just quit worrying about grind consistency. I use a NV fine grinder for everything else and now for the MV-1. Seems to work great, just don't really tamp. Leveling is ok, tamping like conduction vape...nope.

I would urge you to let Patrick know about the nipple on the plastic top cover. I suspect this is injection molded and that was a nub left over and not trimmed correctly. This may be an answer for others who have struggled despite their HS being properly assembled.

I think this is kind of important to let them know......but now I will mind my own business! haha

Start out a crucible on default 4 or 5 and you have a heavy 5-8+ hitter... I use a fairly fine, dry (58% Bovedas) , fluffy grind (LIFT Innovations grinder w/a med sifting disc) and dump it on in a pyramid and evenly and gently pack it down... not too fussy really at all. Maybe a quick stir after 4-5 draws... works good for me when I don’t really feel like flavor chasing/temp stepping and want maximum results quickly.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot, I can hear it now...: NIPPLEGATE

I was having some of the best sessions as well this morning. This thing when it's good to me def packs a punch, I take that first hit on full blast and wonder how I didn't just combust because the vapor is just so thick :). Then vapor trails off for the next couples hits. Which is fine because I know I got most of the goodies on that first long slow draw :). I've been experimenting with the mp as well and at first I had it wise open and now I have a lil more resistance which I think is good. @lazylathe good to see it's fitting in for you :). Def a bad piece of tech

Ghost post on VLF last night:

“Very happy to advise that 5 of our new videos have just gone live on our YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTPgcQRrreRDw44MOM58oRQlueTI1zUXJ

There are 2 more coming out soon - troubleshooting and how to use the App.

We will be linking our FAQ answers on the Ghost Vapeswebsite, to the relevant section of the videos and the new Product Manual will also be interactive.

Please ignore the slight quality issues - these are first cut versions. The final ones are being reshot and should be available within a couple of weeks.

Hope these videos help you to get the best performance out of your MV1.

Best

Patrick”

Thanks for the link to the videos , these should help me a ton.

I am really digging this vape. A truely immediate, full-extraction, hand-held powerhouse.

I could not get on with this vape without the dispenser and it is such a gamechanger and critical for being out, i may get a second. My only wish right now is for airtight dispensers.

I’ve had very good results with nug, fluffy and fine. (Calling Dr Nug, Dr Fluffy, Dr Fine).

It is kind of a pain to have to sign up for another forum but it’s totally worth it for the results. Patrick is a stellar guy. I think he might stalk this forum a bit but I agree it would be good to let him know about nipplegate (there’s a fun idea...).

I’m definitely finding extra crucibles and an extra battery to be worthwhile (and dibs on @disGRUNTled ’s friend if that friend could use a new friend. That’s the motherlode and a clear indicator of an awesome friend; someone with more money than sense!).

Well, i never did go on the other forum, but apparently this forum works too:

"Hi [me]

Whitney from GHOST Vapes here again. We are currently transitioning to a new system, and as part of my process, I’m going through all unresolved items. I apologize if we haven’t given you the experience that you had hoped for, and we would like to try and turn it around. I am able to issue a replacement, or move forward with a return, whichever you prefer. Please advise me on how you would like to proceed, and provide me with your serial number. It can be located under the battery on the device itself, or on the back of the box. As soon as I have that information, we can move forward in whichever direction you prefer.

Best,

Whitney

Damn. Finally pushed it to far with 2 red lights... first combustion:puke:

So beyond cleaning the crucible, all heat-sink parts and mouthpiece how the hell do I get that foulness out of the silicone without an ISO soak? I can't seem to get a complete clean to remove the smell using only ISO and Q-tips, and Ghost recommends not to remove these pieces... there has got to be a better way to clean the silicone. Any suggestions are welcome.

Yeahh... two sessions with the thing man.. that’s how I cleared mine after cleaning the heatsink assembly. I only had it happen once. It was a result of a cleaning followed by a crucible that was tamped down and I was straight cranking it on back to back to back rips with the heatsink not pushed down all the way and then when I pushed it down, the heat generated with the slow draw was enough to do it. I haven’t done it since but that taste was the same as the firefly 1 when it goes. Blaaaaaaahhhhhh.. for me it was a small area of ash. Went away quickly actually.

I really thought this was a unit whose air path could be fully cleaned for airline travel... that is not the case.

This unit smells something fierce, definitely would not travel with it being so stinky, even after a full cleaning. I love the way it rips, but this cleaning issue is a huge drawback.

Overall, I find the maintenance on this to be so much higher than my maintenance on my MV. The MV carts essentially never need cleaning compared to the Ghost's crucibles. Ghost crucibles get sticky and clogged, I end up cleaning them after each use.

When mine worked on occasion, I would put the crucible in upside down. Helped the screen stay cleaner, longer, by having it on the bottom. Curiously, as at least another mentioned, the loading may be easier this way.

I see it fits that way as well... may try that, thank you.

I can't say a bad thing about the way this functions. It is cooler vapor [dry] than any other vapes I have used. It just rips! I just wish I could do full cleaning on every part that clings to odor, silicone included.
