Help me stick with vaping? Duration of high seems lacking, can't get the 'oomph'.

Been smoking almost every day for the past 4-5 years now, minus breaks for holidays etc. Recently my tolerance has gone up quite a bit and smoking 4-5 joints per evening (approx 1-1.5g/day) to get stoned after work. Usage on the weekend would vary significantly to be higher or lower depending on activity, same in any given week with work really.

I'm using a CFX and putting in approx 0.3g per bowl. I've ran all sorts through it, Incredible bulk, Stardawg, Silver Haze, standard 'Lemz' etc over the past 10 days. I've found my usage has been significantly higher than if I'd been smoking.

I start on 180*c, go for approx one and a half five minute 'sessions', then the same for 190*c, and 200*c. Recently I've started adding an extra sessions and a half at 210-220 but the vapour is very wispy. I get pretty good clouds and can get pretty high, albeit minus the body dopeyness, for approx half an hour. If I load another bowl up I get a similar experience but it still only seems to peak for about 10 minutes and has worn off within 40 minutes. In order to get a good effect in any bowl I have to pretty much chain vape for the full 25-30 minutes though. If I let up it goes very quickly.

I had a shot at vaping using an ExtremeQ a few years ago but never really got on with it, for similar reasons really. Unfortunately, it broke in a power surge and I've lost the power cable so I can't have another go. I'm at the stage now where I'm vaping 1-2 bowls in the evening while I still have stuff to do but still smoking that joint in the evening. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Over time, I've noticed that the duration and intensity of the effect of my vape seems to correlate strongly with my breathing. This surprised me as someone coming from the smoking world, where a few quick, short pulls are enough to get the job done.

If I'm just sitting around relaxing and take some pulls from the vape, the effects are a lot like you describe: short-lived and overall disappointing. However, if I take a minute to "warm my lungs up" by taking several deep, gentle breaths, I find it a lot easier to take a big, slow draw from the vape, while still having enough lung power left to breathe in some fresh air to bring it all deep into the lungs. This ends up giving me the strong, long-lasting effects that I'm after.

Somewhere on FC there's a post referencing a study showing that the strongest absorption happens in the deepest pockets of the lungs. Just that when smoking, it seems like a bad idea to try to breathe in as deeply and for as long as possible. With a vape though, to me it seems perfectly safe to do just that!

Btw, I've found it hard to be satisfied with vaping if I've smoked within the last few days. I think taking a break from smoking makes the body a lot more receptive to the effects from vaping.

Some smokers struggle to get on with vaping in the beginning because the effects are different, and it takes time. You have to surrender to the vapor! If you keep vaporizing more and more without a reasonable break (2 hours?) between sessions, your tolerance is going to be fighting against you. There are chemicals that you inhale through smoking that you are not inhaling with vapor, and they give you effects you will not get with vapor.

A more powerful vaporizer might help such as a desktop device (flowerpot, the plenty, enail, dab rig, etc).

Squishing your flowers into rosin or washing/sifting your flowers for hash is another way to satisfy what might be lacking from your smoking pleasures. Some people like to collect their kief and cap their bowls when they need a heavier dose.

Higher temps also seems to be a common thread I find with smokers transitioning to vaporizing, they dont seem to appreciate the lower temps as much as the "stoned" effect doesn't seem to come through until you hit the higher temperatures.

Some other things, if you have access to edibles, eating a lower dose edible in between vaporizer sessions spread 4-5 hours apart will increase the effectiveness of your high and likely make you feel like you can go longer between vaporizer sessions. If you don't have access to edibles, save your ABV and mix it with a little peanut butter and spread it on a cracker and eat it. It might not be much but if you save up enough you can make a lil ABV sandwich.

You gotta slow down though or else yer going to be wondering why distillate doesn't get you high!

Use .20 grams at least, vape it till brown/dark brown, or when the flavor tastes lile burnt wood then its spent, inhale and hold for 5 seconds and then exhale

Most importabntly use mids at least, top shelf for a faster and stronger hi

I usually go from third lowest setting, hit 3 times then go 2nd highest, hit 3 times and then the highest Nd hit 3 times

If not strong enuff for u, u can ingest brownies

I agree with the suggestion to go straight to high temps; Starting low is going to vaporize those essential oils first and cause more of a heady effect.

If you're going through a gram a day between 5 joints your tolerance really isn't that bad. It might be more than you want to use, but it's not that high. I don't know any joint smokers that use less than 1g per joint so I think you're doing really well lol!

I've never used a CFX, but some vapes are really inefficient. I know it takes at least a gram out of my Arizer Air to get me where .1-.2 in my Showerhead will take me.

Almost there...
At this stage while switching, do not worry about taste and flavor too much.
Load up your vape and go straight to the top temp.
Your first hit should be full of flavor with some clouds, the 2nd hit and following hits should be very thick.

Also agree with @invertedisdead regarding type of vape used.
Most of my portables take a few back to back bowls to get me medicated.
While my desktops get me there much faster with much less material.

If you can tolerate having a desktop vape, i would recommend you look into the New Vape Showerhead!

Thanks guy - I appreciate the help. I prefer vaping considerably for a variety of reasons and actually dislike the act of smoking now.

I've had a better time going in straight at 200 than temp step. However, I can't really toke (I do super gentle tokes - vape to lung with an end inhale - and get massive clouds) for longer than 4-5 seconds if I go straight in at this temp. With regards to edibles, I have approx a half of ABV and rising...

I don't really want to get a desktop vape at the moment for a variety of reasons but am considering one in approximately 6 months if I can stick with this. I would however consider some smaller investments like a vapcap. At the moment I'm seriously considering grabbing a decent glass piece and WPA, although I have no experience with this. I could never manage bongs as a smoker because it made my airways go bad but I reckon it might fill the gap with this.

I've decided to quit smoking completely, at least in the beginning. I have a strong suspicion a large part of it is trying to 'chase' the satisfaction of getting a nicotine hit with a faint addiction and ignoring the actual high feeling because of that.

personally a bubbler and wpa for any vape is recommended especially coming from smoking only... you will need as high temp as possible to reach those more sedating compounds that need a high heat to release from the plant... you can add in cannabimimetics to your cannabis dose to boost your endocannabinoid tone and receive greater effect from the same amount of cannabis flower too... whole black peppercorn is one of the easiest access cannabimimetic agents... use along side cannabis and notice how much more medicated you become... info here https://forum.grasscity.com/threads/cannabis-black-pepper.1282798/ and here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2449371/ and here http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bph.13676/full#references here https://www.researchgate.net/public...bis_Plants_and_the_Endocannabinoid_System#pfb getting where you want to be requires some work but its worth it... please let me know if you have questions... peace

Two words...Concentrate Sandwiches. I have buddies who smoke & dab all day, everyday. One or two fat rips from my Supreme w/ 'trate sandwiches has put everyone I know straight on there asses! I don't know if it's a synergistic thing or the vaporizer (or both), but concentrate sandwiches in the Supreme fuck me up something fierce that neither smoking nor vaping flower solo has been able to do. It's special! Almost feels like a combustion high w/o all the negative constituents.

This will give you that "oomph"!

I think the flower has all those extras the concentrate doesn't have so you get an effective THC boost from the extract, while getting that full entourage effect flower provides. Just a theory, everyone here loves their double deckers! I like to do one type of wax on flower in my SH bowl + another type of wax on the nail :D

So I've smoked one joint over the past week. It was more of a choice rather than a 'giving in' to cravings kind of thing - I'd waited an hour for my CFX to charge to find it had been unplugged and couldn't be bothered to wait another hour. Reminded me yet again how smoking is rubbish though.

As a result, I've ordered a vapcap M :p. I also ordered a small vertical water pipe +WPA for the CFX and a carry case for all this.

The vapcap got me off smoking.I think you'll dig it. I love the unregulated on-demand nature which is more akin to smoking. And I hate plastic vaporizers; I just do.

@RBM Wise choice on the M, well done. I would be surprised if your CFX doesn't become neglected. Do you already have high-quality butane and good lighter? Lotsa members use their VapCaps with water pipe, some exclusively so that's something to look forward to! Take care and good luck on your journey.

With regards to the butane + lighter; I don't, no. I was just planning on heading to a local supermarket and grabbing one there. I'd be happy to grab one off Amazon if you could recommend a few though? I figure with the exception of heat up time - it seems most do it in 30-45 seconds - it didn't make much difference.

Heat up times with butane will probably never take 30-45 seconds. It takes me 15 seconds with a single flame torch, about 8-10 with a double and 6 or so with a triple. And get good butane too, at least 3x filtered.

I use ebay for lighters and butane. Supermarkets will have crappy butane most likely, which will make your lighter likely to fail and most won't have the torch lighters we use. The general wisdom on number of jet flames is single or double indoors and 3-4 outside but some have other ideas. I would get a couple of different cheapo torch lighter and a can of high filter butane to start out.

Check the last few pages of this thread there's some good ones.

Thanks chaps, I'll have a peruse of that thread and take a look on Amazon.

Unfortunately, the price of one of those Vertigo Triples is almost half the cost of the VapCap in the UK! I don't really fancy paying more than £5-10 on a lighter, unless it makes a significant difference to the duration or intensity of the high or an extremely noticeable difference in taste.

I’m glad to see you got a Vapcap M. It should suit your needs far better than an electronic vape. They hit hard and give combustion like vapour density. The terpene rush off the first hit is usually enough to make my head spin for a moment, which I cannot say for other vapes.

A properly heated Vapcap in some nice glass will make you think you had taken a mini dab.

Grab a cheap refillable single flame torch for a start. It gives you the maximum control over your heating and allows for a very hot first hit. I use a bbq torch lighter for the most part.

Vapcaps will fuck your combustion once you get your heating ritual dialed in. Best of luck!

The WPA and waterpipe will be a big help for the CFX. The CFX is plenty powerful and absolutely capable of putting out tons of vapor and getting you fried. It is not the most efficient vape in the world but it can definitely put you on your ass, so don't give up on it!

You should be able to replace the screen in the WPA with an Arizer Extreme basket screen for improved airflow.

I think quitting tobacco smoking will definitely benefit your takeup of canna vaping. Easier said than done, of course, but you can do it! Just vape more! hahaha

You have already found the FC community and learned how helpful people are around here - so you are off to a good start :peace:
