Reggies vs KB?

You all can tell by the subject line. I have used kinebud since I started and have always been happy with it. I stay smart with my money and have no outrageous expenses, so paying extra has never been a problem for me. I chose kine because it was healthier (less smoking, although clearly I didn't care that much), safer (you didn't need as much weight, so if you got caught it wasn't as big of a deal), and quicker (I usually had to smoke in public or "at-risk" places).

Since I started vaping, I've been thinking about switching to regulars. Here is my rationale:
1) Cheaper: As far the the THC/weight ratio is concerned, reggies mean I can buy more THC at a lower price.
2) Quality in my area has gone up significantly. While I have been getting better KB strains around lately, the price has also seemed to consistently stay on the higher end (almost always $60/eighth, which isn't a ripoff around here, but isn't good). Lately regs have started decreasing in price a little, and being much improved (I almost feel like there's been semi-botched KB fields around or something).

Now the main negatives I can think of is having to deal with seeds (how deadly are those for vaporizers?), the added risk of carrying weight, which is not too much of a concern for me anymore, and taking longer to get the same high.

Am I weighing my options right? Lets hear some other experienced vaporizer's opinions.

Not sure how well i fit the "experienced vaporizer" category, but i've found myself moving in a similar direction. The good stuff costs so much more that the commercial around here that it just hasnt been as worth it IMO. In fact, the commercial i got recently has been vaping BETTER because its dry compacted nugs (as opposed to the loose wet buds i was getting), so my LB has been loving it and giving me great hits, and it's easier to ration out i think (making a 1/2 of regs last X amount of time as opposed to 1/4 of killer). Another reason i've been getting the walmart stuff instead of the premo is that it still tastes great vaporized. I vaguely remember not liking the taste of cheap smoke anywhere as near as much, but I've actually found sometimes cheap stuff can taste heaps better, it really depends more on how it was grown/harvested i think. Like, the first hit or two of the "good" stuff i got last time tasted a bit like chemicals, hard to say exactly what, but i felt like i licked a bit of miracle gro off of some potting soil, so it wasnt really pleasant lol. i assume it's due to the plants not being flushed/dried properly there.

and you got it right about that it takes long/more hits to get to the same level, but really, thats a pretty small difference. i love each and every hit i get out of my vapebong setup, so having to take a couple more hits to get to the right cloud is by no means a bad thing in my opinion anyway.

as far as seeds, I've found one in a bowl or two now and then, but they just look like normal seeds, even after being vaped. No one could taste the difference or tell that it was in there till we dumped the bowl out. I guess if you vape high enough it might pop or something b4 the herb would combust? not sure though.

i think i might just get a little bit of high quality dank to take with me when i can only afford a couple tokes on my LB, but my everyday vaping is going to be with the more budget-friendly stuff.

Thanks for the info steiner666. Its good to know the seeds won't be in any danger of popping at the lower vape temps. What vaporizer do you normally use? I use Da Buddha, which is kept at a low temperature, but I'm getting a PD soon which is supposed to be at a higher temp. Do you think I should I worry about seeds popping in that?

When my friends bring regs over I have enjoyed the taste, so no problem there. Some especially tasty ones have been around lately :)

i usually vape between noon and 1 on my DBV. i try to make sure i get any seeds out when i'm grinding the stuff up, but i'm not too worried about if i do let some slip through because it wasnt an issue that one time. I think my one friend said he tried vaping some seeds before (lol) and he didnt say anything about them popping. and i'm not sure about the PD. i imagine it will vape within the same general temp range though, so it shouldnt be much different

would be kinda interesting to know at what temp seeds pop tho... but i'm not volunteering my nice, freshly cleaned wand/whip to experiment on that one tho lol.

To me I never liked anything reg/mid level, I always smoked high grade stuff, and I vape it as well. I've only been doing this for 4 months, but I have tried my fair share of strains. To me I find it's not worth it to go down, I don't care about the price. To me, whenever I saw a bag full of regs, I see tons of seeds and stems, and there wasn't much bud on it. It just looked like dirt bud, and I didn't think it was worth the amount. If lets say you got a gram of good stuff for 20$ but 2 grams of regs for 20$ just think about how much of that is actually seeds and stems. If lets say .5 is that much, then you only have 1.5 for 20$, compared to a higher grade lets say the weight is .2, so .8 compared to 1.5, it's your choice.

Another thing that would steer me away is the fact that there isn't really much of a taste of regs. When I vaped with my friend's VaporBro's vape it never gave off a taste, they used regs, I used w/e strain I had.

I also notice it takes a lot more to get where you want, and also I seem to get headaches when smoking/vaping lower quality strains. Probably since I started with higher quality I guess going down in quality isn't good, others have said the same to me.

Again this is what I experienced as "regs" I don't know what kind of stuff you get, but I would stick to what you have. 60% an eighth isn't bad. This is also my opinion, take it as you feel fit. Remember the information is based on myself and others, and it may be different for yourself or anyone else.

yeah it's hard to really compare since we're all talking about diff quality. the regular stuff i'm referring to has a few seeds in the bag, but maybe a half a dozen in an 8th tops. anything with so much seeds that you begin to worry how it effects the weight of the bag is dirt IMO.

My :2c:

Since vaping I've turned down some of the bud presented to me by my dealer because I know it won't go as far. For me (here's a very simple hypothetical), 2g of lower grade at the same price at 1g of higher grade is a no-brainer; the hi-grade will produce more vapor for a similarly packed bowl/crucible/stem. Also, for me one bowl of hi-grade is a longer, cleaner, nicer high than 2 bowls of lower grade could ever offer. The taste factor alone is enough to keep me spending more too :brow:

(I think you should rethink the logic of getting more THC out of a bigger bag of reggies/schwag/whatever. A 1/4 oz of reggies, obviously depending on quality, doesn't necessarily have the same THC quantity as a 1/8 oz of hi-grade, the lower quality will have a much higher ratio of plant matter to THC, ultimately, especially with vaping, we're singling out the actives)

Have any of you folks, those in MMJ states especially, considered growing? For what you're paying for product, you could have a bud factory in your house pumping out loads of bud every 8 weeks. More bud than many have seen in their entire lives in just one run. It's not very difficult. Stop by IC.

In quantity I buy the mids as the KBs would KILL me at that price. It is nice to grab a small bag of meds to compliment my mids. I tend to make mixes in my grinder with the 2 strains when I can.

As far as seeds are concerned, I wouldnt be too worried. I have (accidentally and purposely) packed seeds in my VG when I had it. If I wasnt aware of a seed being in the bowl I wasnt aware until it was time to repack. (And my VG got pretty darned hot)

Thanks so much for all the information guys, its helped out a lot. @SimonC, until I am able to afford living alone I don't plan to grow my own bud, but have plans to start as soon as I do. Again thanks to everyone who has contributed.

That's smart. As Napoleon said, "Take care of the details and the war will win itself."

Here's the main reasons why i choose kind bud: tastes and smells a lot better, i have a few choice of identified strains, and it usually has less chemicals as it is flushed properly. I don't drink alcohol and don't have a car so i can afford it.

While I do enjoy vaping some kb from time to time for the extra flavor, The most of what I vape is regs/mids, especially with the increasing quality around me too.

If I had the choice, only KBs.

But after all it's really a matter of personal tastes.
The mids we are talking about are only mids because we call them so, and because they are lower on thc and less geneticaly selected, but still they have a particular flavor and effect that can appeal to some people.

It's not like I, or any other smart vaper or smoker, would PREFER to vape some average bud over killer bud, but it just doesn't really fit too well into our budgets. If money wasn't an issue, or if supply and prices were better than they are around here, then yeah, I'd be vaping widow and diesel all day long. the stuff i get is good, smells good and tastes good and does the trick. now and then i'll break up a bud and find a seed, but they're not like falling off of them or anything

As it stands now, i like to vape x amount of times a day, and i find having a larger quantity is easier to do that with than a smaller amount of high quality. if i only vaped once a day though, I could definitely see myself preferring that 1 time to be the best it can be and last the longest.

kb is great if you need to get up to where you need to be fast and stay there w/o having to kick it back up for as long as possible. but vapes usually get you there in <1/2 as many hits as smoking would take regardless of what you're using, so this isn't important IMO.

Interesting -- i'm still pretty new with my DBV (like 3 weeks in) and i def. use less per stone, but i noticed i end up taking more vape hits off that pinch of good stuff than i would get off my chillum -- e.g. if i were to put that same amount, grineded, in my piece i'd probably only get about 2-3 good, big hits. but from the vape more like 6-8, but maybe not as big of hits.

I recently did 1 bowl of mids/regs (20 to 25 bucks an 8th) but used my small delta 9 bong (loaded it with ice crushed by blender to snow), and i got baked for like 2 hours of maybe 5-6 bong hits. and after i wasn't even tired at all. so i'm going to keep exploring these regs/mids.
