Fog by X-Vape

PPN

Volute of Vapor
how does vapour production compare to the starry???
I wouldn't say the vapor production is better but they are two totally different devices, Starry is mainly conduction, Fog is mainly convection, so the load is not heated between hits resulting in best taste. Although vapor production is pretty good while hitting the Fog at higher setting and taste is pretty good, at least for me....

I rarely use the Starry, even from the beginning, I use the Fog a lot and I think I will continue to use it!

This thing has caught my interest. Can someone clarify how exactly you adjust temps though? Is it just a long press of the button cycles through, or do you have to hold it till the lights hit a certain color or something? This could be a nice on the go replacement while I wait for my GH to come back, as the FW4 and Crafty don't cut it when i'm not at home.

The first option you said is correct, the second confused me lol

Lol. Sorry, the words didn't quite come out in a logical order. The thing I'm wondering about is, to use an example, if I want to get from lowest temp to highest, would I simply hold the button till the appropriate number of lights flash? Or would it be 4 long presses to step through each setting?

Hold it, it will keep cycling through til you stop at the level you want

Shit Snacks could you tell me more about the battery?
Mine came in yesterday, everything smelled much better than the Starry out of the box for me, less silicone but also now better cured it seems (I soaked the mp silicone in iso a bit, then even threw it wrapped in foil in the oven for a min which actually really did it fully quickly but gotta be careful). The lid does seem to swing and close more easily without the silicone however, you need it to hold the nice ceramic screen. I ran several burn offs at max temp with lid open, no fumes and smell got even better as it went. Only 4min session timer so kept going a little after I felt it was okay just in case. Unit doesn't get too hot, but I did let it cool down in between sessions as well.

First bowl was decently full, not packed at all, course ground Banana OG or whatever this is (freebie from dispensary). Started at 356 and got some nice flavor, minimal clouds after a few hits got it going, so I stepped up to 374 and then it really kicked off. Great clouds and nice taste, but back to back hits may not be so easy here, may need to recover in between? Will need to test more, didn't really account for any technique this time, just load and hit. Anyway stepped to 392 and 410 to get the rest out, but clouds thinned and taste faded, extraction was still pretty light so could've down more maybe with a slight tamp and/or higher temps/ longer draws/ more time in between hits.

One thing is it's hard to know where the heater is at. You turn it on, then it just starts heating up to your set temp, with lights flashing the whole session. So is it good to go instantly? Probably not, especially since this seems to be fairly pure convection session style, so vapor takes a little more to get going at first anyway... But so I have no idea what the heater is doing when activated temp wise, so just use the five settings as general settings, which I am fine with I think. Also the hinge was mentioned as a weak point, I mean its a nice idea in some ways very practical, but also in some ways not at all. Will need to be able to clean it fully at some point, and yeah not sure how airtight the seal is either. Also not so easy to unload with the hinge, but the battery hinge on bottom is a bit nicer, more solid.

The chamber is nice, again not sure how efficient yet, but looks like a good design. Everything feels very solid, lot of metal, slight rubber coating outside the lids that feels nice too. It is very compact (absolutely is the same as the Starry body as I expected btw) and quite stealth, all black with subtle led lights that can be covered easily in use clutched in your hand, which is also extremely easy to do with this form factor. Feels quite durable, and battery life on an LG HG2 seems solid, its got a nice heft without feeling heavy. Perfect to throw in a pocket for sure, the body design makes Swift/CFV look super duper cheap, even the Crafty too frankly.

Anyway that's it for now, just some first impressions, will report back with more later as testing goes. So far the Fog really feels like a winner, and if you are between this and the Fury2 you'll have to decide what features are important to you personally, since both seem like great options for nice vaping on a budget

Could you tell me more about the battery? How many sessions can you get out of a fully charged Fog(I don't want it to have the same issues of the CFV)?
I saw a few people on reddit saying they found defective units and that makes me reevaluate the Fog since I currently can't send the devices back if it breaks.

Thanks. Purchased one from VapeNorth. It gets here tomorrow. I'm excited to see somewhat budget convection. I just probably won't be temp stepping on this vape, as I think changing temps for me is going to require fiddling with a light detector. Can be done, but I wouldn't want to do it constantly. Thankfully it remembers temp, so that's OK.

I actually have no idea. Have not charged and used the stock battery yet. Been using 25Rs and LG HG2s I already had, typically I put them in after charging externally never even quite full... Further I never really use it til it dies, as I don't use it for more than a bowl usually when I do, so battery comes out and is used in another vape I use much more often. Sorry I cannot be of more help in that regard, but my impression is battery life is more than decent and since you can swap for any high drain 18650 it is a non issue in my opinion. Haven't heard anything about any defects but I only know what I see in this thread

I've received my Fog. I quite like it. I like the design, and the build quality so far. It feels like what I'd want a Crafty 2.0 to be. I'm not sure I like loading it, but it looks like the top was designed to catch spills, so I guess that's one interesting way of dealing with it. I suspect there's a funnel out there that'd work, and I'd be interested to see how the Chewy 2 does with it, but as long as you don't mind using the top as a tray and brushing the herbs in it's not a problem. As I was doing the first empty bowl to do a burn-off and to figure out where the lights were, I noticed it did get warm quite quickly, and I couldn't detect a ticking noise like the Grasshopper or FW4. The lights don't seem to be nearly as bright as the one on the Crafty is by default, or the one on the Grasshopper. Or if they are, they're red, because it's pretty hard for me to see them. But I'm pretty sure I found them with my light detector app, and I'm pretty sure I've got the temperature on either the fourth or fifth level. I'll do a couple more empty bowl burn-offs, swap in a charged battery and start using it. Shall post impressions in a day or two once I've figured out what it can and can't handle in my case, but initial impressions are quite positive.

First off let me welcome you to FC, @axaro1 nice to see you jump into the conversation.

I do not have a Fog but I do have a CFV. The biggest (really only) problem with the CFV was battery life.

The fog uses 18650 batteries and by buying a couple/few depending on your habits you can stay away from the recharger for as long as you want. If the vape never leaves the house you could probably rely on the battery supplied. If you leave the house for a day trip (please have someone else driving) you may need 3 or more extra batteries.

For purchasing batteries I suggest IMRbatteries.com. Stay away from Ebay or Amazon as there have been fakes sold as premium batteries.

Ty @sickmanfraud for the tips.

Right now I'm uncertain on the kind of vape I want to buy even if the Fog looks like a good choice.
There are many good vaporizers coming this year with similar features (like the Tera).

I've seen a new vaporizer by Flowermate(not released yet), the V5 NANO that looks incredibly good(18650 removable, convection, lcd and looks made out of good materials for being a Flowermate product) and could be a solid alternative for the Fog especially since I could wait a few months if the time is worth the quality.

Oh wow, that looks pretty cool.

Anyways, I got a FOG, and it works pretty well. I went from gpen to FOG, so major upgrade for me :)

I was all set to write a positive review of the Fog this morning. I was hitting it while giving the review a final read when it stopped working. It now will power on, do some stuff with the lights for about 15 or 20 seconds, then power off on all three charged batteries I have. Not a good first impression, but I contacted Sneaky Pete through VapeNorth. We'll see how XVape/XMax do with customer service. Seems the vape luck wasn't with me this purchase as it was with the Grasshopper I had that worked for over a year.

That's what I'm talking about, I don't doubt it's a solid choice for the price range and features, it's the chance of getting a defective units that makes me think twice before buying the Fog.
If it wasn't for that I would be having a Fog in my hands right now.

Turns out Pete got back to me within a few minutes of sending my EMail. As with all electronic devices, particularly new ones, things can go wrong. Luckily they know what's wrong, and Pete has been great to deal with. I'll have a working unit when a new production run comes in and all will be good. The Crafty and Firewood just get a bunch more hours on their batteries. ;)

If you get a defective unit it will end up replaced by wherever you buy it (good places like Pete, puffitup, vapefiend..) so if that is your only concern I wouldn't worry about it. This isn't like the GH (which too has a great warranty at least)

I have had an opportunity to meet face to face with X/VAPE X/MAX people with both the Fog and Starry in hand.

First, these people seem extremely ethical and dedicated to producing the best Vapes they can which can also be supported by the market. They are concerned about health, safety and all the issues I know I and most of you care about in a quality vape. I am very impressed with them and really enjoyed talking with them and look forward to future products from them.

Second, They have been listening. The Fog and Starry are very solid...not plastic junk.I hate to say it, but Apple-like in looks and feel and ease,of,use. Great mouthpiece on each. Easy to use ( did i say that all ready...simple to clean, turn on, change battery and pass to a newbie ) and some fun attachments which they can describe as I am not sure they are for sale yet..water attachment, attachment to attach to bubblers and great tube extension for on the go hits!!!!

Another set of winners!!!!
