Why Does Combusted Bud Taste so Awful from a Vape?

Saw this question posted on another board, and I've always wondered this myself.

Combusted weed when "smoked" is not all that great, but it sure as hell tastes better than bud when accidentally combusted through a vape, which tastes just godawful.

Any ideas as to why?

Maybe because you're expecting combustion taste with smoking, while the unexpected smoke (and contrast between it and vapor) makes more of a bad impression?

Interesting, perhaps more ash or semi-combusted particles are ingested leading to a stronger more pronounced 'burn' taste.

Also a lot of the aromatic compounds will be gone at that point.

Sounds like a good answer to me... anyone who's tried smoking AVB can probably can probably attest to its less than pleasant taste

I was asked this before. I talked about what vtac said about the herb aromatics being some of the first to go among other compounds and whatnot and it essentially becomes a different product if/when it burns in the vape as it is not equal to regular herb being combusted in say a bowl or pipe.

hehe, count me in that desperate group too. I've smoked ABV once- it was horrible, never again. In fact, these days I just throw the goddamn ABV away. I am able to brown my herb with the WDZ in such a way that there is no green flaking whatsoever in my ABV anymore (i use my wdz with a bong, with the regular 12 v ac adapter and without a coozie)- so i don't think there is much point in storing the abv, unless I wanted to make edibles-- which I will never make with ABV. I am saving up for a vape with variable temp control so I can try vaping at higher temps, and extract as much as possible from my herb, making the ABV even more useless.

anyway, i've never personally been able to combust while vaping so i dunno how that would taste. I can see how it would be annoying though-- instead of delicious vapor you're expecting, you get harsh smoke. I'd imagine it would screw up the smells/tastes of/from your vape too for sometime, until proper cleaning is performed.

lol i've never smoked ABV (main reason for me getting my vape was to get rid of smoke altogether), but i've had some of my friends smoke some of mine and the general consensus was that it wasn't worth it, they had to smoke a ton to get a mild buzz. Which was what i was hoping to hear must be vaping it pretty good!

and @ OP, i've wondered this myself. I've accidentally combusted in my DBV once or twice (once due to a friends error and once due to my own when i unknowingly bumped the dial while moving it) and it was about the worst tasting experience ever. I had to boil all my glass and throw my hose away afterwards, because every bowl after tasted like ash.

If it was just harsh smoke, I wouldn't have asked this question for just harsh smoke when combusting in a vape makes perfect sense, but when going into combustion in a vape, it is MUCH worse than just harsh smoke.

I remember when I first bought an SSV and I cranked that baby up to 11, I combusted my bowl and I literally had to throw away the whip's tubing even after an ISO rinse. It was that bad, it(combustion smell/flavor) seemingly embedded itself in the silicon.

I agree that some sort of chemical reaction must take, like the Maillard Reaction when making toast. Basically, she loses that lovin' feeling.

i find collecting enough quantities of abv to warrant some cooking to be a major pain in the butt. esp. when edibles are so much better with cheap shwag as opposed to ABV.

i also don't make bho or collect resin from my glass etc etc for that same reason: inconvenience.

where i come from, weed is about chilling out. om shanti om, etc. work of any kind is not part of the experience

also, i've never done any of the above in my life, so i don't feel like i am wasting or missing out. it's just how i know and understand the leaf. and how it speaks back to me

-- EDIT: y'know, i don't know why i rambled above like that. i think i was sober when i posted that, that's the problem. the reason i will never make brownies with abv is that judging by the color of my abv, i don't think there is much of the good stuff left in it. it's pretty roasted, i am one greedy motherfucker and rape my bong (plus yes, storing all that brown crap is a pain in the butt)
