I have been using the SIC disk a lot lately (making a lot of oil from my new crop) and it's pretty dirty. I tried some hot alcohol but I think I need something stronger. What is the max temp I could take it up to? I am a bit wary of torching it.

Found an article saying the dish should be able to withstand 3000 F so I took it to the workshop and torched it. After touching I used a dabber (next time I will start with a wooden pick, less likely to do any damage) to very gently chip away the carbonised remains. Then a quick soak in ISO, cleaned off with some kitchen paper. To ensure all the ISO was gone and any last little bits I re-assembled it and took it up to 900 F for a few minutes.

Nice and clean now!
I can't remember where I saw it but someone had brought up that sic will take on the ISO in it's pores. Now don't quote me on that, for my sic dish I let everything burn off at high temps and I'd scrape the rest with my dab tool. Have had mine for 8 months and still clean as a whistle

Yes but heat will burn away any iso eventually , it doesn’t take that long . I Swab with iso every few sessions to keep everything fresh , never had a foul taste .

I kinda felt the same to be honest... it took me a few days to realize I had the coil cover on upside down.. one could almost argue they were going for maximum stealth were it not for the big flier advertising their product line thrown in there in leue of instructions..

Yeah, they definitely need to work on their marketing. If it weren't for this thread I'd be lost.

@DrRishi do you dry swab your dish after dabbing? I find the SIC stays really clean this way.
Yes, I always dry swab. I had been using it for a couple of months and I had also been experimenting with my Rosin extraction technique so it quite possible that I have put some Rosin through it that was not completely free of any contaminants.

Shouldn't matter if there's contaminants, as long as the temp isn't too high it should swab right up.

Shameless cross post from the Vape Temp Profile Charts thread:

Did some testing with the Flowerpot Showerhead last night. Please note that the probe was placed about 5mm below the screen, so these temps are not bowl temps, but just downstream of the bowl. Hence the lower temps.

First, here is a couple of hits at 680°F with no carb cap: Note: this test was performed with the probe inadvertently making contact with the inside of the bowl wall. The graph is interesting, but it must be noted that it is not tracking air temp, so take it for what it's worth.

Next, here's one hit with the carb cap put on mid hit, and the second hit with the carb cap on the whole time:

Notice how the temp increase slows down when the carb cap is applied. I speculate that the choked intake limiting draw velocity reduces the amount of heat energy going through the system. I think that the reduced temp is partially offset by the lowering of the pressure due to capping, so the vapor production doesn't necessarily suffer. That's my theory anyway...

Here is a chart of two hits both having the carb cap applied mid hit:

It’s been a hell of a last couple days for myself. I ordered a SH and panhead adjustable bowl to go with my enail I already had. And holy shit I’m totally impressed. Although I really haven’t given this the time of day it really deserves. My production Zion came literally the next day unannounced. Plus I’m battling a terrible bronchitis issue. But I seriously can see how a person could mow through some material with this beast.

This thread is almost too much for a sane person to keep up with. And now I truly see why. Also I can see how some think/feel the SH is too airy of a hit. However I’m liking everything I’ve experienced.
I take that back. The only negative experience I had was with throwing some shatter in the adj. bowl on top of 3 double woven screens. That was very disappointing. I’m sure I didn’t do everything perfectly.

hehehe...I should have been clearer...a cold carb cap would seem to contribute to temp drop when carbing and this may be the principle reason @Stu saw those drops on carb'd hits.

I pre-heat my FP cap and my D-nail cap....and these are pretty light weight Ti caps but I can still get up to a 10 degree drop just by dropping the cap on the device (well, with the D-nail...with the greater mass of the FP, I think its less...more like 4-5 degrees but I'm not really certain).

Hahah, god no, it wasnt a reference to you, it was me not wanting to be definitive with my statements as Im still not sure of what exactly is going on with a cold cap vs a pre-heated, all I can say with confidence is that it definitely does.... something :)

I don't carb for flower hits, but during a dab a cold showercap is much more likely to suck heat out of the showerhead and drop the nail temp (not good if you're already going in on a low temp dab, at higher temps it doesn't matter in my experience) A cold cap is also the prime target for hot vapor to condense on... the original showercap is a total reclaim magnet, dabbing with a cold v1 showercap gets you a crater full of reclaim.

A boro "sombrero" carb cap would be sick though... nice to be able to see your oil. At this point I'd be stoked to even see a quartz insert for the SH.

I forgot about that one last night.:doh: It actually is F, but for that first test the probe was in contact with the inside of the bowl. When we discovered this, we re-positioned the probe into the center. So that chart is really only measuring the wall of the bowl, and not the air temp. I should've just deleted it, but I was high and forgot about it until you pointed it out to me.

Carb cab was not pre-heated. You're probably right about your assessment.

Now you mention it, I hadnt registered that my OG Showercap doesnt get reclaim build up like it used to when I first started using it. Its always pre heated these days, I never take it off the SH.

So yeah, that seems to be about right.

I've stuck with original cap, especially now I've got 6 holes in it :) I much prefer the hefty weight to the new cap too.

I plan on testing the velocity/temperature relationship with a new variable-speed pump I just received. I'm curious to see what the results show as I change the airspeed while monitoring the bowl temp. I just need to rig up the proper tubing for the experiment. :science:
