Yeah, as much as I would LOVE to avoid learning about mods, they are in my future (as I MUST have Splinter) so limiting my exposure is the best I can do.
At least it appears that Splinter will not NEED temp control, so simple wattage control should be enough allowing for cheaper mods. Not being an ecig guy I would just as soon not throw a lot of $$ at this...

Fastech have very cheap evic mods (as long as you go for those labelled authentic). Splinter does now work with TC.

Yeah that's a lot of bodies, more than the beta program (which we haven't gotten to yet, right? Just a couple out in the world I thought) so I guess the diameter is set. That's good, further along than I'd expected.

So, sorry for my ignorance, but now that Splinter can apparently do TC, does that mean we need a TC capable mod? Or, if not need, do we WANT one? (there is that damn word [want] again...)

I don't know why you think TC mods are that much pricier. You can get one around $25 or less shipped.

Good TC mods on the other hand are pricier yes. Expect above $60.

Well, I don't know it. I just assumed it from the earlier discussions we had about it and the comments like "At least we won't need the more expensive TC mods"... (paraphrase) :p
I have an evic mini 75w ($40ish on eBay, I think) for bubble hash. Haven’t tried temp control, so can’t say how much more awesomer it is, but can say wattage control is really easy - each device has a range, very little experimentation needed to find your place in that range, plus you modulate w breath control.

Don’t worry about mods - the least technical solution (buy thing, connect Splinter, hit + or - button to set wattage, hold power button and draw) will work great.

Well I disagree. Been using tons of different on demand convection vapes, and I have troubles getting back to unregulated or just power regulated ones. TC (when it works) is so much better. If I have the choice I don't hesitate a single second.

@KeroZen out of interest - what would be your mod of choice?

Any mod based on the DNA chipset. I don't recommend the trifecta supported by ArticFox anymore (joyetech / Wismec / eLeaf) as it's really a cheap substitute and I keep having weird issues with them (but they are okish entry level mods and their price can't be beaten)

I'm having great results with the Smoant Knight v2 also, but it doesn't accept attachments over 23.5mm (so iHeat and Splinter are out)

Piggybacking on this. If you're looking for a cheaper entry level device that does good TC I would also recommend any of the vaporesso products that use the Omni 2.0 Chip or something like the voopoo drag or alpha one, which uses the Gene Chip. Both of these chips are supposed to be very accurate in TC and are generally a fraction of the price of a DNA chip. Also the Smoant Charon or Battlestar are supposed to be pretty good in TC. Never used a smoant myself personally but they tend to get very good reviews.

@mzzxd: it's unknown but I would say 24-26mm or more.

@sixstringsmash: the geek in me loved playing with myevic and ArticFox but in the end I kept having weird issues with Joyetech devices. When I switched to the Smoant unit, there was nothing complicated to setup, no fiddling with PID values etc, it just worked out of the box and has been glitchless since. Plus I love these side-by-side designs, so much more compact.

Indeed the Vaporesso products caught my interest, I even ordered the Attitude but fasttech cancelled my order and then said the product was discontinued... The HohmTech chipset is also getting super good reviews, same for the latest YiHi chipsets. But HohmTech just removed their products from their site for no apparent reason, and YiHi mods can be even pricier than DNA ones.

I wish I knew more about these mods but not being an E juicer I just went with what I thought would be O.K. I figured since @funkyjunky used these on the Tubo that they would work pretty good. I know he has some decent firmware recommendations on his site. We'll see!
