Arizer Solo II

OF

Well-Known Member
Hi, do you think this could be used to charge the Solo II with a 5V power bank? What are the sizes of the charger plug which attaches to the Solo? Thanks a lot!

https://www.amazon.es/dp/B01ID90K4A/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3OFA0H1TDA4GU&colid=2CATP09FG2MOC

Cheers!

Sorry, I don't read French (or whatever it is....) and can't find the specification, but based on physical size alone I'd say 'no chance'. You need over one Amp, a fraction of what that small a unit is likely to be capable of. And that much draw (to make an Amp at 12 Volts) will mean the power bank needs to supply something like four Amps, unlikely as well.

Think about it, you want to recharge a high capacity battery made of two 18650s. It's going to take at least two equally powerful 18650s for that, right? 3 when you consider losses.

A much better approach is the one I used I think:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-solo.3833/page-1515#post-1016431

The pack looks like this inside:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-solo.3833/page-1512#post-1013057

No, that connector is too big to fit. The posts above will tell you what the right one is and where to get it.

Hi OF, I'm a complete ignorant about it but I see you have all under control. Do you think this one could do the job? https://www.amazon.es/iNepo-GM312-M...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CC4A71BJ3SQ54GBQQ5JF

I want to buy a Solo II and I'd like first to be sure that I'll be able to charge it on the go. Sorry for the Spanish links, I have to get my staff from them.

And what about the quick charger ones? They say they would adapt to the needs of the device. This one in particular offers 3.6-6.5V = 3A, or 6.5-9V = 2A, or 9-12V =1.5A. Will it be able to charge a Solo II? or at least use it? https://www.amazon.es/Vinsic®-Batería-externa-estándar-entrada/dp/B01LWM2M8Z/ref=pd_sbs_421_23?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=H89EPT1BWNMYW67B43J3

Anyway, the final plug had to be a 2.1 x 5.5mm Male, like this link of yours, hadn't it? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008AGUI8K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 What about something like this? https://www.ebay.es/itm/1Pcs-Usb-Dc...198150?hash=item33cccb27c6:g:xjsAAOSwkShY9Ztf

Big thanks!

Big thanks!

You're welcome.

I don't think either of those will cut it long enough for even a single (complete) recharge. They play with numbers, of course just to make it more fun. Like quoting a built in battery of XX capacity without telling you that's at 3.6 Volts average. Which has to be multiplied (from our POV) up to 5.0 or worse still, 12 Volts to be used. From the poor batteries POV it's a division of course. And we to 'cover' losses due to heat and such in the process. We only get maybe 1/4 of the capacity claimed to charge our Solo in the end. If it's honest, sad to say that's often not the case. For instance, I'm not sure I believe the 20,000mAh claim, at least until I learn more about the magic involved...... Solo II is state of the art here, at 1/6 of that?

I still think the best way to go is with the LED lighting guys. They are based on 12 Volts to start with, and are basically (Protected) batteries in a box. Nothing fancy. In an industry where you need to be at least somewhat honest as volume customers are sought on one side and dependability on the other. These from Amazon (or most of them anyway) should do fine, as are the same from EBay.

The key is to start with 12 Volts? Converting up is a bad call if you want 'bang for the buck'. Charging Solo is a whole lot like powering LED lighting at a party? If you're the battery. Both are from the fun food group.....

The cable might or might not work on the Solo end (some do, some don't). Sometimes you need to trim a 'doughnut' off the plastic part like this:
TxZzukM.jpg

I don't have that cable, so can't confirm things. I have given a couple I've used. I've only met one that couldn't be 'cut back' enough to work.

However, no way will it work with a battery pack made to work with USBs. Think about it, if the battery pack put 12 Volts not 5 into your cell phone...... OK for Air, probably.

Yes, as you've noted, Arizer is 'cheating' a bit on the connector (running more voltage than spec) so 'nobody' uses that connector at 12 Volts. Accept the 5.5mm one, it is the standard in a couple of related industries. Adapters are your friend often.

The general answer you asked for is 'yes, you can recharge Solo II from a battery pack', but you have to be a bit careful doing so or you end up with a few, slow recharges. Perhaps not even a single complete one?

@Pepus the Solo II has 2.5- 3 hours of in use time. You can easily get 10 long sessions with a single charge.

Are you planning on being away from a wall outlet for more than a day?

If you need more time between charges perhaps the Arizer Air II and a bunch of batteries is a better option?

With my usage currently I charge it every 2 days.

OK, thanks to you sharing your knowledge I'm getting how it works now ... In conclusion, preferable to convert the connector than the voltage, so is needed a true 12V battery/s to charge properly the Solo II one. The point is, will it be really necessary? I'm not sure if I get to 10 daily sessions, but with the Air I'm using now, they are long, sometimes with half of a load after 20 minutes I'm still getting enough vapor and turn on it again. That means a lot of usage time! Do you have a similar experience? Is it the same with the Solo II?

Maybe the Solo II will be able to get off all the vapor in only 15 minutes per session and will require less global usage time? If not, would be simpler to charge it in the noon if possible, or instead of the 12V charger, even carry the Air and an extra battery would be lighter? I wonder... I think I must actually use the Solo II for find it out. You that are using it, what do you think about?

Thanks for the advice!

@Pepus I have my Solo II set to 205C throughout an entire session. It takes 12 minutes, 2 minutes to warm up and heat soak the stem (could be cut to 30-45s with similar performance) and 10 minutes in session use.

A 15-30s pull every 30-45s; sometimes more, sometimes less. Depending on the strain I might have vapor still being produced when my auto off happens. I just cache the bowl and start fresh when I want another. Save the avb for edibles or tinctures.

If you are trying get every little bit out of a bowl you may need to run a longer session or adjust your draw speed/technique.

Also, if the vapor is really light and whispy towards the end of a session its probably better to terminate the session and save the battery for a fresh bowl?!?

Excellent overview, IMO. Take a bow.

One small quibble, you should be using real degrees there, 390F. Messing in Metric might get you smaller clouds. Consider miles and kM? Which is bigger? Or how much bigger a gallon is than a liter? Enough said.

One (somewhat) serious addition on the topic of 'end of life' for the bowl: When 'diminishing returns' (weak vapor) has you ready to dump and reload you can often get a bit more life out of a restir. Remember, it is a conduction deal where the load is changing a lot in the session. It's ability to conduct heat in a timely manner is going down throughout the session and that impacts your trying to 'milk' the last bit. Stir it with a toothpick or matchstick and tamp it down some and let it heat soak a bit and try for another useful hit or two? It's often there.........

And for folks who don't have them, things like session time out are 'soft', you can adjust it. And the beep volume and screen brightness and how long you hold the two buttons down to wake it up (it 'counts down, kinda fun for a while...). Although surely not enough to please all, a big improvement I think?

Not always, depending on the bud. I usually start out at 375 and gradually during my 15 min session I stair step. I eventually will increase the temp until the end of my session. Usually I go up to 385 degrees but sometimes higher. I generally don't go over 390. The taste starts to degrade for me.
With this unit you can easily tailor your session to suit your needs.

I have my Solo 2 close by incase I need it in the middle of the night. A perfect vape to use while in bed. No cord to worry about.

Regarding extraction...

Does stepping the temp up over a session (180 up to 200) vs staying at a higher temp (200) throughout provide a better extraction. Same max temperature achieved

Flavour I would think is better (I find my flower very terpy even at 205C (metric, lol)).

I would think more time at the higher temps would allow more of an extraction but that's just a guess?

I think the main advantage of stepping up is flavor? Doing so favors the lighter fractions (those with lower Boiling Points basically, although it's not really that simple) which means more terpenes and THC, less CBD and other 'couch lock' components percentage wise earlier on. Otherwise, I think you've got it, bake it enough at a fixed temperature and it's equally extracted, now you got to that temperature doesn't really matter?

Mind the later hits have less flavor than otherwise, no free lunches here.

Since there's no real magic, I'm of the 'put it on full and go' school. That means 390F usually. Something really special I might drop 20 or so degrees to enjoy, but basically it's an extraction tool to me. Easiest to use a standard temperature that suits you delivering the end results you want from a routine POV I think.

A very neat part about Solo/Air is it can be used with so many different techniques/strategies to customize results to suit differing owners. No one 'right way'?

I don't get this statement OF. I use celcius and it shouldn't make any difference to cloud production.

Where the deals at on this bad boy?
Planetvape.ca still has the pvsolo2 code working - a couple gongs, extra screens and stem caps, free shipping, small space case 2 piece grinder and a reduced price.

Puffitup has announced their sales for black Friday but I don't know them off hand

Is this a good first vape? was looking at the fury 2 for $130 but found a good deal on the solo 2.

also is this a smelly vape when not in use?
can it be used as an on demand vape just taking hits throughout the day of the same bowl?

Thanks

I'd say it's a great first vape. It has a good battery life and it's more for at-home use or an on-the-go powerful portable. It doesn't fit in the pocket well (after the upgraded slimness it can fit in some pockets, it fits in my jeans) and the glass stem is breakable so keep that in mind. It comes with a soft case to put on your belt but I never use that. I usually use mine at home or in the car. You can also take it on walks, I've done that with my OG Solo.

When not in-use it doesn't smell a lot as long as you keep the stems clean. The vape doesn't smell because the material doesn't touch the vape. Well maybe if you pack the bowl too much :science:

If you cap the stems you shouldn't have an issue with smell, they don't smell when there's material sitting in there with a cap on either end. Especially if you use the tubes that they come with.

You can take the stem out and save it for later, although I usually just finish it. You can also set the timer for 5 minutes auto-shutoff if you don't use it a lot.

IMO if you can take the size and are careful with the glass, it's a great vape. I loved my OG Solo and love my Solo II!

What's not to like with the Solo II. I actually use the soft case all the time. I don't clip it to my belt but it keeps the stems and heater all in one place, nice and neat.

I forgot how efficient it is. I'm using a lot less product even my abv is lighter in colour than the abv left from my CF and VB therefore it's stretching my stash even more because the Solo abv still has plenty of goodness left in it.

would you upgrade from Solo OG to Solo II for 90 bucks ?

The extra battery could become handy sometime but it is not the key feature for me.

I am more intrigued by the 220°C max. temperature.
thats 10 °C more than the OG.

Could be good for CBD hashs.
dont you think ?

If I could get a new unit in exchange for my OG Solo for $90? What?

You must mean a $90 price difference

I only vape at max temp if I'm using a water piece with it.

CBD boils at 160-180C, but if you want denser vapor from the CBDs you could turn it up higher.
