Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

I got my DHgate plates in 3 business days, ordered on Saturday, shipped out from hong kong the next day and had it wednesday. F'n A, FAST!

Here's my setup now, haven't squished anything yet. I think I need a larger ram as the opening in the top of the plate is 2 1/4" inner diameter, and my jack ram is 1" outer diameter. Looking to be about $335 total for this setup (got the press $25 off from harbor freight)

Gonna do a squish tonight, right now I'm just preheating the plates and gonna figure out how off they are from the controller.

Except for the smaller ram and jack, and the top of the stand, (mines welded) it looks a lot like my 20 ton HF set up. I wonder if HF would sell just the 20 t ram?

So far a great price. Are the plates aluminum?

Yes 6061 Aluminum. Def great price! I see there are some USA rosin vendors who are starting to creep up on this price, so I dunno how long this setup will be a steal. I've been looking for the 20T ram jack plate but no lock so far, you almost need to buy a whole different setup. I was hoping just to find a 2" steel cylinder with a 1" ID hole to fit in, otherwise I think it'll still work fine a it is.

First squeeze, plates were roughly 220F, 1gr whole nug, pressed once for 60 seconds, then folded up the puck a couple times squished once more for 60 seconds. 22% yield. Jack Skellington. The puck looked really parched afterwards.

Hell yeah I am so stoked, I havent even tried it yet, I am gonna do a double decker in the FP with both flower and rosin like you been doing with that super lemon haze. Flavor should be out of this world!

I had a boo-boo when I was getting everything setup, I got too excited and the plates slipped and hit the floor, not from far but enough to put a little ding in both plates =( It seems to still be flush so perhaps no harm. I contacted the seller and it looks like replacement plates are $75. Not bad!

Here's a pic of the plates, damage was on that left front corner =/

It wouldn't warp the whole plates ... they are too thick for that (1.25" ?). If the ding has it bending up then you would need to file or sand it away ... if you just do the corner you would lose those couple square millimeters of surface area but otherwise no damage. You could otherwise lap the entire surface of the plates as well; to do that, you could use any flat surface such as a nice tablesaw table or something, and stick some sandpaper of ever finer grades until it's nice and polished. First start rough to take more off and flatten, then go to finer and finer.

That's a nice looking press setup.

so regarding that dent. as long as the dent does not angle inwards as to keep the plates separated then there is no foul on that. the damage is minimal. be super careful not to scratch your plates face sides. you want to keep that surface as pristine as possible.

if you were to have a lip that was separating the faces from closing. you would simply have to file the raised bit down. it's a corner so the area is less important.

pumped to hear more about your results as you keep pressin!

also, how do you know what pressure you're at with no guage to tell you? don't you risk overloading the bottlejack? all the setups i've seen use the type with a pressure guage.

 ... I already said that! (ie. the ding) ... you "guess" with no gauge ... I'm getting a pretty good feel for it ... 2 presses and I get 25% yields ... usually around 20-22% on first press.

Once you start pressing bigger amounts however returns do seem to settle around a certain percentage. A percentage that a lot of times is higher then butane extractions made from the same amount of the same material. This makes me wonder where these extra percentages(2-4%) come from. What is it made up of?

Interesting, maybe it's waxes that are normally removed in processing BHO.

I think your right. I've winterized rosin for cannacaps and filtered out a lot of wax. Especially when I've run iso through previously pressed pucks.

While I haven't winterized rosin made with smaller micron size bags, I think they would filter more wax than bigger micron sized bags.

I believe better filtering could help with keeping pen type vapes cleaner longer as well.

Yep, I noticed this issue, rosin is a lot "dirtier" than my bho extraction and is not the best for vape pens, especially for coil design or donuts. Just got the Trinity tank and hope to be able to use it with rosin if really totally cleanable (still not done the first cleaning).

Still not tested rosin with my Hercule... need some more replacement ti coils in case...

Rosin taste the best with a good enail setup although I rarely used mine lately.... need time to squish some buds of my new stash!

Too many plant waxes in the rosin and you're gonna gum the hell out of the coils using it. I think if you wanted to do rosin in it you'd ideally want to use rosin made from bubble hash (or regular hash) instead of flower rosin.

The rosin I made from Moroccan hasch was not really cleaner... maybe I need to get something thinner as a filter. I used some ss screen shits gifted from @RastaVapa but I don't know the size, I tested the rosin bags from Alchimia (I don't remenber what they are made of but it's not ss) too but got the larger 75 micron size (I think I ordered the thinner which is 32 microns ).

Wich size do you recommand for hasch, please?

Sorry friend, I don't press hash. I only suggested it because by weight there is a LOT less particulate, chlorophyll, (trichome stalks with bubble hash and fine enough micron bags), etc.

Have you tried pressing the hash at a really low temperature, like 100-120 degrees? It may come out dark anyways... I'm not sure why, but perhaps the oxidation from heat when they press the trichomes into hash degrades the oils a bit and darkens them. I bet with the lighter blond hashes you'll get nice clear/yellow rosin.

Use 25 micron for hash.

And yes, fresh blond stuff comes out blond if pressed with low temp (65C)

Try oil slick paper for pressing

I press with 37micron bags for rosin used in my pens and dynavap. And 220 micron for ordinary use.

And I've found more wax in the oil from pressed bags/pucks than in the actual rosin. So the bags do stop some wax.

Some of the oil from pressed pucks was close to 50% wax after winterizing. But stripping that wax with solvents like I do with ISO and ethanol on my pressed pucks, also strips terpenes. Ok for cannacaps but just saying.

I've got a question for everyone ... w/ your presses, how the heck do you make the bottom plate stay still? Just got a new (on clearance) press with pressure gauge from Canadian Tire ($150 CAD ~= $120 USD) as a step up to my homemade bottle jack press (mainly for the gauge). Great deal ... comes with the jack which is 2 piece and the pressure gauge + the frame ... 10 ton.

Some use a dab mat, some use JB weld. Mine came with an adapter to secure it to the bottome plates of thr press.

Ok ... don't have a dab mat, and don't want to glue it down so, drilled and tapped a couple extra holes in the bottom of my base heat plate and then put a couple bolts between the 2 halves of the bottom press plate with some big washers on the bottom. Problem solved. Also put a bolt at front and back of the plate to help maintain alignment by preventing the bottom press plate from moving around too much.

Here's a picture of my updated press! Just ran 2g through, at 2 tons (I figured a 2+" puck ... so figured 4 sq. in. ... think I should have figured 3 and gone with 1.5 tons pressure). Got 24% on my first press and an extra 2% on the next.

Not bad!
