I saw that the PD folk have released the PD Pandora - Im curious to see if anyone has bought (and assembled) one yet and how it compares to the PD that is on the mile long waiting list.

They say that these ship quite a bit faster than if you get one made by Tom - wouldnt this be a viable alternative for those who insist on the PD but dont want the wait?

*Edit* Okay I admit it... This is in my radar cause I seem to have a fascination with breaking and fixing shit, and playing with new toys.

i was going to buy one of these in place of the Woodeez i ordered yesterday. for the same price you get an assembled unit with a 1 year warranty and dont have to wait 2 weeks for your parts to ship. this is what made me decide against it anyway.

i may pick up a pandora down the raod as ppl start getting theirs in and reviewing them tho :brow:

I have to give you props for having God in your avatar.
Bless you

AGBeer,
I thought that I would bump this as I am interested in when these are expected to start shipping. I love my WDZ, and would love another "electric-log" or "log" style vape. I would especially want one that I have to assemble myself. Might buy a few and build them for friends, and give them out on birthdays or for christmas. I love building little gadgets like this. Can't wait to start hearing reviews, but I can't expect them to be much different than the PD's reviews. Someone please update me. Thanks, S.L.

I received my kits :D They are very cool and it looks as if a lot of care was put into this. The elk for the bottom is awesome too!!

I haven't had time to build yet. I did start my reading, watched the first video and feel VERY confident about the first part of the build LOL!! I also gave the one that I bought for a friend to said friend over the weekend. He was OVER THE MOON and that might mean I'll get the loaner vape back from him soon too!!! He offered to build mine but I declined. I told him if I get stuck and don't want to ask my husband I'll hit him up. I'm excited about tying to build it myself... Now if I can just find the time without anyone hovering about my damn house :D

I expect soon we'll have a lot of build discussion and show them off when we're done!!!

Thanks Tom & Pammy!! Great job on the setting up the kit :peace: :2c:

I got my kit, will be building it over the next few days. Maybe even today. For me getting started is the hard part.... I am a professional procrastinator. But once I get going..... should be a breeze. So far I've only fondled the parts and browsed through the DVD.
for me at least, looks pretty easy.... Might be a bit much for some... easy for others.

Love it!

Can someone tell me where in the 214 pages of the official PD thread where this thing shows up? (fc search sucks)

Is this the droid/big hitter I am looking for?

The only difference between the Pandora and the Original PD, is the customer builds the Pandora. Other than that, they should perform exactly the same.

The links Vtac posted should answer your questions better than trying to find it in the PD thread

Really looking forward to you guys posting up your build experiences. Maybe post up a few pics of the build process. Good stuff.........

Hey Duh... When you hit search look for the drop down list at the bottom that says show POSTS rather than topics. Otherwise it's hard to find anything sometimes.

The links Vtac showed give you the info on it.

one thing I can say already about the Pandora. I wanted to carve or maybe burn a design into the wood. But after opening the box and seeing the wood body, I have since changed my mind. To afraid that I will screw up my design and mess up the wood. So I am just going to sand and buff the hell out of the body making it super smooth. Not too much though, want to keep the logo. Already almost perfectly smooth, just a few areas that need a little sanding. The wood was too pretty for me to want to carve or burn it.
Pandora slightly bigger than my original PD. So I am wondering if that means after this unit breaks in.... will it run warmer than my other PD?

"Doh!" says Duh. I used to know that. Been a while since I last used search. [soapbox] note to FC staff - change the default search to by post not by thread. [/soapbox]

I do like the idea of making your own PD but somehow this comes off as a ship in a bottle kit and I don't think I'd have the patience to build one. Of course, if I had my own shop like Rick, that would be a different story. Also, it would be nice to retrofit some interesting combinations of custom PDs - solar powered (i.e. rechargable base), fan assist, mounted on an articulating arm (ultimate desktop accessory).

Of course, adding a spoiler, flux-capacitor and nitro-extender wouldn't hurt either. :p

IMO, dont pay 150 bucks for Pandora when you can get the parts at Home Depot for 1/100th of the cost. I bought an MZ because I dont want to wait forever for a PD and because I want something that I know will work-lets just say Im better at rolling blunts than at electronics.

If I was good with that kind of thing, I would find the item number (not difficult) on all the PD parts and buy them myself. I would save money and have something that was MINE, that I made and that would be oh-so-much-more special.

You can build a car for 1,000 dollars, but you buy it assembled for 20,000 because no one has time to build a fucking car. You pay for the labor. Don't pay 150 for some stainless steel.

Let us know when you're selling the next generation of knockoff PDs for $1.50 each.

Don't troll here. Seriously.

Everyone has different thresholds on what they feel comfortable building. Some people would prefer not to build anything. Others really enjoy building things, but there are some that would prefer building from kits versus building from scratch, and this holds true not only for vapes, but for other things, like RC airplanes and such.

Your comments above are kinda out there. Like "You can build a car for 1,000 dollars, but you buy it assembled for 20,000 because no one has time to build a fucking car.". It's not just time. Maybe they don't have the skill set needed to build a car, even if they did have the time. Maybe they don't have the tools necessary, which has nothing to do with time.

As well as your comment of "Don't pay 150 for some stainless steel." It's a kit. In the hobby world, there are tons of kits. Why? Because people like to build them but they would never want to build from scratch. How can you make a blanket suggestion like that and assume that it would appeal to everyone.?

You first came in here, civre4monkey, and asked for advice. Many of us here gave you that advice and you made a decision based upon your preferences. That's all good. Get your MZ. It's a great vape. But don't come in here to invalidate those that like to build kits along with invalidating the whole Pandora concept, because for me, and for many others, it is a concept that is long overdue.

Well.. Almost Done. Got it plugged in for a test run.... after that going to glue in the bottom and finish....
For me so far it is an easy build.
All the way up until this far, maybe an hour and a few minutes of actual build time. Now It is a game of waiting.
Only been plugged in for a few minutes... can already feel heat when I touch the heat exchange....

Here is the view an hour ago before I did the wiring.

Oh my!! Nice Devo, can't wait to hear how your test goes!! I like the idea of a build it, vape it kit! Way better than a model kit if you ask me.

As far I've gotten is taking it's picture lol!

Lo, I'm really looking forward to hearing how you do in putting your PD together. I'm a "crafty" gal, but have never soldered anything. I've been eyeing these kits for a while. Not to sound sexist, but I think most of you guys don't feel it's hard to put together, but I feel a little challenged as a woman who doesn't know her way around too many shop tools.

Hey Mom.... don't let soldering scare you away! I used to think it must be SO hard. At the time I wanted to build little robotic shit. Man I learned to solder in minutes and got pretty good at it. All your doing basically is melting some hot metal into a liquid and using it as a glue of sorts to connect wires, circuit boards, etc. It is not that difficult at all!! Practice on a few odd scraps of shit and you'll feel empowered :D

Now I'm still a little worried I might get stuck on the build but not scared LOL! If only I had the house to myself for awhile I would have already started but can't have the kid find me building a vape :o

Edited to add: Also practice sucking up the solder with the solder-sucker-thingy-do... It's like erasing a mistake. Helps if you know how to do that too - just in case!!

 That's what's so great about empty nest! Now that my kids are adults, it's not an issue. They both know about my "meddy."

I might have to take this on. I'm a patient person and have no problem waiting for my PD, but there is something about making something yourself that is so rewarding.
