Since I cook my steelcut oats (solid ingredient??) with a slow boil/simmer for 30 minutes, am I then eating "oat soup"? ;)
The oats are small, bullet shaped hard seeds, not the fluffy rolled oats.

I love my "oat soup" every morning

Yep we got that meal around here too, we also add dried fruits to the mixture and which we call Oshaf:D..
But again Soup is a primarily liquid food, generally served warm or hot (but may be cool or cold), that is made by combining ingredients such as meat and vegetables with stock, juice, water, or another liquid.
Imo we should first answer the question if Oats are vegetables ? Are grains considered to be veggies ? :))

I am getting further confused since we got this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarator around here which is considered soup but is not brewed at all... :D

- Soup = Soup is good food
- Milk = Milk, (In cereal), does a body good
Soup doesn't qualify as cereal because soup is good food but it isn't guaranteed to do a body good.
Oh, wait...I forgot there are soups made from milk and cream....forget what I said....

From the alcoholic perspective......
- Does a Gibson Martini (Can contain a small pearl onion and an olive) count as soup?

IMO, the Gibson Martini with a pearl onion and olive does NOT qualify as soup BUT
it does qualify as an onion and olive SALAD with an alcohol dressing ;)

Cereal means grain.
When we say we will eat cereal, it means we will eat processed grain (or unprocessed in some instances)
Cereal can be eaten dry, or with water or milk.
it can be eaten hot (Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Farina) or cold.
If you want to call your oatmeal soup... be free to do so.
I will continue calling my oatmeal cereal.
I put honey or sugar on my cereal.
I put salt, pepper and garlic in my soup or chowder.
Feel free, everyone to make up any name for your food while you eat it.
Do not expect to go into an eating establishment and receive what you had in mind when you invent your own personal nomenclature for your food.

I get stuck on the definition saying veggies need to be in soup and that's pretty rare in a cereal (Googling shows not very many). Not all soups have veggies, I'm not sure I've had soup without them though. It does say "typically" made with them in the definition though.
