The Portside is still alive for sure.
All depends on ones needs. The PS will go for a long weekend camping trip and then some, whereas the PSMini should go for at least a full day or more. And I mean full blown usage for both units, even some sharing.
If intending to take to a party with multiple dippers, the original PS would be ticket. :freak:

The guts for batch 3 PSs are pretty much done. All that's left is the hole drilling and assemble into the enclosures. Drilling is not a favorite task for me.

Should have more Skellys' and Jarheads done by weeks end. :D

No new PSMini news to tell. Maybe just a reminder not to ask me to be put on a list for a list.... gets me too :hmm:with getting that far ahead of myself. :myday:

I don't want to bother @Pipes until I have an order as I'm sure we are using up quite a bit of his free time, but can someone who has ordered the mini tell us the price? I know there are some 20 of you out there... ;)

I'm on the waiting list but he didn't quote me a price.

No list. No. List. At. All.

When he first mentioned the idea of a mini I posted about instantly PMing him to be put on the list. Don't actually do that.

;) Seems the natives are restless.

It's correct that I'm trying to cut down on the PMs as I'd need some administrative help to keep up.
Please bare in mind that the Mini is still in planning stages and no beta unit has even being built. However, I do have the confidence it will be a go and do have 20 early adopters from plans with no guarantees. They must have faith I guess.
Anyway, if everything continues as planned, they will be $110 with battery installed. Might offer without the battery for $95 but not sure yet. :hmm:
On the Portside front, for batch 3, composed of 24 units, here they are waiting for me to drill out the enclosures and do final assembly. All the tedious stuff is done.

As soon as I have some off time, the drilling will commence! :science:

Y'd think the mPS would be about the same price as the PS?

A tad lower, perhaps.:spliff:

Whoops. Trigger finger a bit cold, today. Pipes posted prices......

If the mPS is lite & POCKETABLE, I'd be delighted to own one!

The present modules are GINORMOUS.

i may be incorrect, but i thought the portside mini was going to be pretty much the same with just smaller battery pack..

while the heating coil and such can be rearranged a little bit, i dont think that part of the unit is changing size..

Does it matter if it's a 7.4V or an 11.1V? Am I correct in that the former is designated S2 while the latter is S3?
You want the 11.1 volt. (S3). These batteries are generally used in racing drones.
If some are buying to do a DIY, please keep in mind that if soldering, the battery leads are hot and much caution is needed. I have ordered these and these to solder onto the BMS. Just to use the connector and pig tail. This makes battery replacement easy and no worries working with hot leads.

@xlr8shun

The differences will be:

Battery will be supplied and is made of Lipo chemistry cells. Actually, designed for the RC world.
Battery capacity will be cut down to 900 mha which should be ample for a weekend out and about.
Size will be a little over 1/2 that of the PS. Measures 100mm X 66mm X 43mm Whereas the current PS is 100mm X 100mm X 50mm.
Enclosure is still Aluminum but black in colour.
Pricing will be a few more bucks over the PS because of included battery. This battery is currently on sale and if that price holds or close to it, PSMini will be around $100-$110 to you guys.

The PS will go for a long weekend camping trip and then some, whereas the PSMini should go for at least a full day or more. And I mean full blown usage for both units, even some sharing.

The Mini will be a tad over 1/2 the size of the big brother PS and about 1/3 the battery longevity. Still enough for a couple days of fairly heavy use. Should charge in under an hour.
It will be small enough for most inner jacket pockets.

Here's some preliminary porn.

It's like a really large mod box. Inside jacket pocketable. The driver unit fits really well once you nip the corners off it.

And the BMS also fits nice. Think this is going to work great. Haven't got the battery yet so can hardly wait to confirm it works.

This is basically how I plan to orient the coil inside the enclosure. The tube will stuck out top which is a plated end.

Going to use these plastic standoff pads to stick to the insides of enclosure so the driver board will sit on them like a shelf. The BMS will fit along a wall under the driver unit. The open area is the space for the Lipo battery pack.

@Pipes will you be offering the mPS in kit form for the DIY?

Extra batteries for sale with the minis?

unbearably light in the being....
Just paid for my Skelly!!!

NOW for batteries: 2 questions, I have.

Getting a second trio of batts seems sensible, but is it really?
Are IMR's Nitecore chargers good quality for all batts (I have a ton of enerloops)?

More later, just...need to place an order....
