Discontinued Ghost MV1

Old & In the Way
I understand subtleties and variations in methods of use, and this is a new product, but doesn't it come with an owner/user guide? There seem to be a lot of folks having difficulty with some of the very basic aspects, like opening the chamber, removing the battery, filling the crucible without spilling material and such. And there's some confusion about how many times to press the button? Shouldn't have to go to a third party video for remedial instruction, imo.
Is it poorly designed, ergonomically? Or are folks just not reading the directions?
Still, I'd like to try one someday!

filling the crucible without spilling material

The metal top doesn't stay on the ceramic bucket. Not user error that can be remedied by reading a manual.

I didn't have to open the manual because I watched the vids @VCBud put up on YouTube ... Single button wasn't hard to figure out.

I'm a little Shakey so its more so just hard for me to get a crucible in.. it really isn't difficult to use ONCE you get it in. No one better take that outta context haha

@vapviking, it does come with a user guide & they have a user guide on their website. The user guide illustrates how to charge the battery, how to fill & insert the crucible (how not to spill material, well, that's just user logic), how to enter the various modes (how many times to press the button), safety, etc. How to remove the battery is an obvious oversight.

The vape is not poorly designed, but it is not 100% ergonomic. The difficulty in opening & closing the chamber is do to tight buttons which apparently from other users' experience loosens over time. The couple of design/manufacturing issues like the crucible lid & glass mouthpiece is being or will be addressed.

There's nothing wrong with a remedial instruction video as some people learn better visually & some from written format. And I'm sure some people are skipping over the directions & just jumping in; well, for most, except the modes. As @VCBud was contracted by Ghost for design input & beta testing due to his vast knowledge of vapes, it makes perfect sense that he would create instructional videos for it & promote it.

I ask, what vape is not without issues or a learning curve?

I can see potential customers not being impressed either.
Knowing how vapers feel about their vaping experience, I doubt that potential customers not being impressed due to an outburst would cause them not to purchase a good vape.

Yup, we learn real good together. Now let’s start seeing some reports!

ETA:

Crickets!

I returned to the load that I mentioned earlier. I checked the Bud lesson again and then killed the first crucible. 3-4 draws at A2, A3, R1, R2 (how many? Fuck, I don’t know...if you want counting done, Mr. Mellish ain’t your man). The battery is still going strong.

I’m disappointed in the flavor. Maybe it’s them factory chemicals I didn’t burn off! It quickly went popcorn on me. I’m impressed with the battery life (hey, I have 2 GH’s) and how long the load lasted (I don’t have another vape that would get 15-20 draws off that much material).

Effects? About what I would expect.

20=70 minutes of elevator music (see above, I already warned you about the Mr. Mellish counting system).

During the hiatus, I checked the crucible and the abv was frighteningly close to combustion. Lest anyone call BS, here it is:

2n0rad1.jpg

Loaded a second batch of different material and finer grind. Three draws at A1, A2, A3, R1 and R2. The taste was pretty good until A3. At that point, meh. Very toasty.

Checked the abv. It is dark chocolate but not pre-combustion (but, I did fewer draws without the highest temps). Effects good.

Another factor that may interest some is the odor. I understand that we get a cannabis blindness and that scares me. So far, my experience has been that if I can't smell it, no one seems to notice (or they are really super polite...mmmm...THAT wouldn't happen). If I can smell it, it's time for incense and prayer (or maybe an invitation to take the wife shopping).

The effects are quite good. Not over the top good but very solid. Perhaps the rumored app will tone this hot mother down and improve the flavor. At R2, I had no issues drawing straight into my lungs; this baby cools the vapor.

Enough for now.

Judging from the picture, I think you might have put too little material in. I used to get uneven AVB and some pretty dark spots. Packing just a little bit more fixed it for me. The temperature bug a lot of people seem to have could also be the culprit.

I've done a half-assed burn-off and two sessions on the Ghost. I'm estimating 35-40 draws. The battery still shows fully charged. That would be 4 or 5 batteries on the GH. On the FW, I really haven't paid attention but I probably get 4-5 sessions per charge and get 10-12 draws during each session. Understanding that there are two batteries in the pack, I would expect it to last longer than the GH or the FW but I'm surprised it's still showing three battery lights.

I don't see a need to stir. The abv may be a little uneven but it all looks cooked; just varying degrees of brown/dark brown.

I do agree with @Summer that the ergonomics could be better but once you get the hang of it, this thing is easy to use: turn on, set temp (aargh--think I'm getting this down but it's still more complicated than I would like), draw freely, boost to the next temp when ready.

(zombie) Woof.
I guess it was just too difficult to design a device this compact with two batteries and a heavy heat sink on top to be stable standing up...? obviously there had to be trade-offs...

It’s almost like the bottom should’ve been rounded like a cable remote to avoid this... but it is good to stand it up with the door open when the crucible is hot with gooey concentrate. Gotta put something in front of it to avoid it getting bumped over. And let others know about it you’re with, which also kinda sucks. Hate having to make people feel nervous about doing something that should be relaxing. Just gotta be diligent with it when it’s out... not that much of a big deal.

Edit: if anything, it would’ve been better to have it leaning more towards the flat and heavy back of the battery than the rounded front with all the controls and bling, you know, for when it inevitably falls on it’s face... like mine has once. Grrr.

Edit 2: it would’ve been cool to somehow have the vape button on the battery pack. Cuz my thin rubbery crap has already started to wear off on my button... my fault for it happening more quickly than most, cuz I’ve had to use my left hand mostly to operate (see previous post) and I guess my thumb tip is too rough and callous. That way, new pack, new button!

Edit 3: Want another? I can nitpick anything....

The button sequencing...? Why do you have to check the battery everytime you want to check/change the heat level? Why not have that operation last, if you even choose to do it? App??

Edit 4: is it “perfect” (whatever the fuck that means)? No. But I think it’s a huge step in the right direction, for me anyway, and is great as is and can only get better.

Am I starting to annoy you yet? Hey, at least it’s all contained in one post this time! Sorry it’s at the top of the page (on my phone anyway... not my intention.)

Ok gang here's my take on the mv1. This vape bangs! If you're looking for firefly taste, Mi power (but regulated), mighty efficiency with extraction, GH clouds with no heat or water necessary, here it is. I get Perfect abv every time. People think there is a learning curve because they aren't used to a wide open flow with convection (just Mi users?) if the vape is cold (ambient temp) the first hit will be less cloudage and more flavorage.:brow: Till it warms up. Press the power, draw, when you feel it building let the button go but continue your draw to cool the load back down as you finish your inhale. Since its regulated you will only get vapor output up to the temp your on. Once it stops producing, bump it up a notch to finish. :tup:As far as the cruicible goes, I prefer it doesn't snap on the top. I've been using the same one and it's a quick load/unload for myself but those with dexterity issues might be challenged. As we call on @Ratchett to invent the fix for loading and carrying multiples. For me this vape echoed what my Cera's could have been. Amazing flavor/effect but with more speed and power. Plus it stays clean! Final word on the Ghost MV-1,:tup:

@ShayWhiteGrow, good review. I just got the vape yesterday & did a slow charge overnight & washed up the mp parts so all I have to do is a burn-off prior to use. I'll be testing it out over the next 5 days, me thinks only 2 bowls a days &, then, unless I have a heat problem, I'll have to make my decision about whether or not to do a buy-back.

I did post on a thread in another forum things I'd like to see updated:

inclusion in operating instructions on how to remove the battery cover, a silicone cover like the OG Arizer Air for protection of the finish from scratches, naturally the crucible lid, inclusion of 5 concentrate pads in the crucible holder, inclusion of a USB outlet charging adaptor & a change in warranty so:

1) that registration is not tethered to the purchaser or email account. So if it's a gift, the recipient can register it.under their own name. (I would never purchase one as a gift if the recipient couldn't register it.)
&
2) if someone sells their vape, the remaining warranty can be transferred over to the new owner -- even if it entails a small fee. Who is it, VapeXhale or Grasshopper who will transfer the remaining warranty over $45?

For the next version (MV2), most importantly, a digital display, the standing balance corrected as it's front heavy & user replaceable, non-proprietary batteries (although I would like to hear from ghostvape what supposedly makes the electronics in the battery pack so special as to warrant $59 :o)&, yes, a midnight blue or cobalt blue finish.

I thought for testing, I'd start out doing the opposite of what I'm reading most of you are doing. Because of my experience with the vapcap coupled with Pipes induction heater where you heat longer on the 1st hit & then reduce your heating time on subsequent hits, I'm thinking that since the heating chamber needs longer to heat up on the 1st hit, I'd start on a higher heat level & the extra heat will release more trichomes/terpenes/flavonoids & may produce more vapor. Then I'd step down in heat on successive hits. Gotta try. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.

Edited to add: I'm just praying that my unit doesn't have the unbridled heat problem as that will screw up all my testing plans.

I had a problem with the battery coming out at first too. I would press the latch button and was like"WTF?!" Then I realized I was holding the top of the battery while pulling on the battery instead of holding the unit when hitting the button to make it drop out:doh: Now like butta baby:cool:

I just removed 17 posts and edited out part of another because they were completely inappropriate under FC rules. The topic is not @VCBud, it is the Ghost MV1. Further, personal attacks on other members will not be tolerated. We also do not want to bring drama from other forums to FC. I could have deleted the posts but I moved them to ABV (http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/attacking-defending-the-vapecritic.25393/, where no further comments are permitted) because I want this to be an example of how not to behave here. I also did not want to hand out mass warning points, although that was an alternative. This is not an invitation to continue the discussion and it is certainly not an opportunity to discuss my decision in the thread. If you feel it necessary, you can send me a PM.

I'm working on a video update that will replace my previous. I won't shoot it until the mouthpiece fix arrives and the app is out - but I wanted to provide an update.

My new MV1 has significantly less issues. The door closes with a nice click, the heatsink stays together and there is no leaking.
The vapor and vaping experience is significantly better. I can vape 3 crucibles in a row before overheating on the 4th.

The vapor itself is great, definitely top notch. I love the vapor. To me it is like firefly2 vapor, without puzzlebox solving draw technique. Concentrates are fantastic, especially with double concentrate pads loaded up!!

My opinion of the whole crucible interface is unchanged - It's a clunky and cumbersome interface.
The EEEE is still there. I've gotten used to it, but I feel a higher quality component could be used to eliminate it. There's just too much feedback.

I'm told the app update will fix the battery regulation. I hope this doesn't affect the power available on a fresh charge, because right now that power is perfect.

---
Also, like @Gibarian - my new vape produced some smoking when I ran it new and empty. It wasn't as dramatic as his video, but it was definitely there.

Almost all chinese vapes have had this same smell/taste in their first few sessions - I assume it's the same thing. The MV1 is capable of burning it off very quickly (and visibly)
I'm not offended by it, but it is an unknown that someone needs to be responsible for.

I presented my findings to Ghost and I've been told they are handling it. (And that there is already a burn-off process in manufacturing)
In the meantime, I suggest new MV1 users do a few burn off cycles before using just to avoid that new sneaker taste.

if you received a device that doesn't produce vapor when it should, it's defective, get a replacement

Perhaps an future app update can give users the option to turn off the audible "eeee" sound?

...had mine for about 2 1/2 weeks now...was experiencing some issues with my computer sooo...wasn't on this site ..seen this phenomena before on this site with new products...will not comment on the experiences of others in regards to this unit....here's mine.
..initially had problems opening crucible and removing battery from unit...over time the crucible issue has abated..although I would not attempt to open it with damp/wet hands...the battery issue is still relevant...although not acute..just a little difficult..at times.
...with a clean unit.. the vapor taste/production of this unit is imo...phenomenal..keeping it clean can be problematic...but the more you keep it clean...the better your experience...imo.
..I have been using alcoholic swipes after each dumping of abv material...paying special attention to the top metal part of the crucible ...it seems to help..
..I am also in possession of a ultrasonic cleaner...it's impossible to articulate how wonderful this unit performs after a 15minute clean with that...it's like new...each and everytime.

Running through burnin now. After opening the hatch I have the most intense like burn plastic smell of any vape. Really strong odor. Anyone else have this?

I can only suggest doing burn offs with abv in place. Positioned closed with crucible. Might preserve the vapes life?:D

I'd be happy to help, what are you looking to accomplish? Storage of preloaded crucibles? Easier method to load multiple crucibles?

Both, it needs a loading tool badly. Ghost says that they will release a dispenser...a magazine for 5 crucibles, if you will....so perhaps a loading tool?

Just a thought and I hope you are well, @Ratchett

Those who pre-reserved a unit before launch have started to receive their vapes and Ghost will be opening up their site for new orders very shortly.

I really appreciate being welcomed to post here again guys, thank you.

I can completely understand and empathize with any skepticism about me and the scenario with Ghost, I'd feel the same way if the roles were reversed.

For what my word is worth I truly had all our best interests at heart by making damn sure they produced the best vape they could before coming to market, and anything I thought you wouldn't like I petitioned them to change (some got done, some didn't, but I pushed hard).

One of the biggest things I think you guys will be impressed with is the vapor quality and potency of this one, and that's really what takes this vape up a level in my opinion. However, getting across how strong a vape is in a video is a very difficult thing to do. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it, but your opinions are ultimately what matters most, so I sincerely hope you agree if you try it.

Thank you and stay up!
-Bud

I just tried using my Ghost today.

I can’t get any vapour at amber 1, 2, or 3. There is a plastic taste when I suck on it with no herb inside, and I can also got a slight taste of plastic with the herb in.

I haven’t tried the concentrate settings.

The lights are behaving as expected and the body was getting warm, but no vapour.

I then took out the heatsink and I couldn’t see a glow from the heater when I pressed the vape button in vape mode.

The only reason I bought this very expensive vape was 1) on your recommendation 2) because I have 2 Grasshoppers, which are really good when they're working, but are not reliable.

I use on a daily basis for medicinal purposes so I have to have something I can trust and rely on.

I was lead to believe that the Ghost MV1 was the one I was looking for. but faulty out of the box seems like it's just a bulkier, heavier Grasshopper. I now possess 3 unreliable vapourisers.

But there is a big difference in postage costs in returning a Grasshopper Vs a Ghost to USA from Europe.

Can you please advise?

Sounds like a hard failed unit to me and every manf of electronics, no matter what it is, has DOAs.

I am not sympathetic to your postage issues, but there will be some RMAs on any device, particularly a newly released device, and the only thing to do is RMA it back to them.

Hi man. Thanks for the reply. I think I've copped what's up. 1st of all you have to remove the crucible before you can see the glow from the heater. It's glowing. Secondly I think i had the stem to far extended. I've pushed it in and am getting vapour on 3. But no clouds as of yet. Guess it was another senior moment. i'll need to play around with it a bit more before i can pass judgement. My GH produces much bigger clouds. Maybe the temperatures are off on mine and will work when the App comes if ever.

Oh, great news!! Well, partial great news haha

A number of folks have also caused issues by not having their MP assembly (the heat sink) put together correctly or not having it inserted completely.

I have not found this vape to need a lot of technique, but there are definitely ones out there more impacted by the unlock utility snafu than others.

Dry herb is essential, but really no more dry than I use in any other vape. Also, do NOT tamp. Light fill with a scoop works well. I get a wispy draw on level 2, first draw. But then its heated up and I get very good visible clouds on L2, 2nd draw and on. I will bump to L3 to finish it off, but have not needed to go higher.

Until the app is out and new firmware is loaded up with it, we really can't baseline the performance of this vape accurately. Right now, in a holding pattern.

Also, the unlock fuck up also seemed to hammer the battery power management (or its a separate issue) and most of us are finding that the vape works great with three green battery lights (full up, yeah?) but falls off on two lights and is damn puny on one battery light.

Please do hang in there a bit and if there is any help I can offer, please don't hesitate to tag me or PM me.

Oh, and I mean that I am "NOT UNsympathetic to your postage issues"!! LOL Sorry, I really didn't mean any offense...just a typo. LOL

Cheers

Hey man. Thanks for not being judgemental and for being so helpful. I've been hitting it on L3 since I last posted and all I get is whispy vapour. Eventually nothing was coming out so I stuck it in my GH and clouds. Definitely something wrong.
