Discontinued Ghost MV1

GEED

Gaseouser
It was pubic hair. And faeces. And it couldn't even be mine.
Way too much information.

...

Hahha no it wasn't. Since pic taken I opened/closed few times, just now I see no sign of it, nor that black dot. It also cannot be seen in my video, but thats lower res so dunno.. But doesn't matter anymore, as the offgas seem to fade completely after many burnoffs, just as did for @China>Rider. The taste has also changed to my electric cooker's flavor. Where I normally cook my toasties, but never on
a silicone baking mat that you bake cookies on
, because http://silpat.com/faq.html says: "Can I use Silpat® on the stove top?
Never use Silpat® on direct heat, stovetops or hot plates. Never use Silpat® on the bottom of an oven, on a grill or with a broiler."

maybe @VCBud explained the company that @Gibarian is just a simple buyer that found problems with his unit and posted them, not someone trying to destroy his reputation.... That makes no sense :tinfoil:

Fucking hope so! Especially concerning me the nature of "dry herb vaporizing" if ANYTHING legal they throw me at, I would shit all over social. Grr.

....there was some minor "manufacturing/new parts" things burning/smelling off with 3-4 burn ins.

Confirmed.

Close up of Gibarian's last pic.

fuzz_zpsllwogzbi.jpg

To compare ratios that hair is about 3-4 mm, thin, above heat dissipator, most likely between part 16 and 29/31, as door was closed, without crucible. Believe me I didn't put it there to burn it and destroy the Ghost reputation.

Smokin pubes? Ew.
Do you not? Care to try? PM for nudes. :D

terrible first impression of them as people.
Not my first impression. They just try to remain "professionally protective" of their investment. Its OK, there must be a lot of money and work went into this vape. But even though the threat wasn't directed namely me, but "anyone, who...", they - nor thread owner here - never contacted me on FC, or on my YT, nor commented on my issues.

How about if you think you have a problem with a product (especially a new one with a buy back guarantee), you go directly to the manufacturer first, before posting a video of what could very well be a roasting pubic hair? I understand the concern, and it is frightening, no doubt, but are there any other user vids of this happening sans the debris? I have one of these things. I want to know.
Very good observation, though I have no "buy back" guarantee, in fact I received not one word regarding to warranty of my US parcel. My issue could not very well be a roasting pubic hair, as the image was taken well after the video shoot, plus some 20 burn-offs. And wankless days in the shadows of legal actions.

Laugh now, I demand.

Others confirmed my results since though.

Overheating BTW is my further observation, even with crucible out.

And for why I not contacted the manufacturer is just because I never had a desire of a solution really. I thought fuck it, they screwed me again, medical grade blah-blah and this Chinese shit just smokes in my face, for over 300 bucks. Its just my nature. Hasty but straightforward. On the second thought I never was a fanboi for any "vaporizer face", I live on the forums for real discussions and people. It was their decision to throw it in the pits of FC arena. I care not "we sorry for your inconvenience, please send it back so we can look further blah blah and offer you a blah blah" only to receive pimped up tin weeks/months later. And mind how correct my decision proved, after their attitude in public response.

what's this fluorescent green thing under the crucible?

Its the green LED shining through the ceramic nest (part 21) around the coil.

Hey guys,

Figured I'd chime in here. I'm not trying to write a whole review, and indeed haven't yet used my unit with herbs due to an upcoming pre-employment screen. I bought this vape particularly because of the on-demand convection heating, the "medical grade materials", and precise temperature control of the device that was advertised. I have to say at this point I have some concerns about the vape, although still excited to try it out.

1. To add another voice to the previous member's findings of off-gassing. I was taking a dry run of the vape at the lowest temperature setting and tasted a very distinct chemical taste/smell. I recreated the same experiment with the light behind the device and I saw the same vapor rising off the coils like in the video. Definitely creeped me out. After about 20 or so runs the chemical flavor/smell has started to finally dissipate. I was worried it would not diminish and I would have to return the unit. Now that it's finally gone, I'm not as worried, but this raises some red flags over the safety of the device and how "medical grade" the components actually are.

2. Silicone is definitely in the vapor path. There is really no logical way to deny this. About 1/4 inch of silicone sits right above the coils and right below the crucible. Heated air goes from this area and passes over your herbs. Adjacent is true, but hot air passes from the hottest part of the vape and hits the silicone before the crucible. I have no idea the temperature tolerance of this material, or whether it is safe or not. Instead of trying to refute the obvious, it would be nice to see some safety data on the materials used. Should we just take a company's word that the materials are medical grade and safe? I bought it, so I took their word, but now I wonder.

3. The grinding glass against ceramic. I know it's being taken care of, but I wrote Ghost an email and got no reply regarding a replacement top. This is also a concern regarding particles of ground ceramic and glass getting into the vapor. That would be bad.

4. A projected date for the app release would be awesome. One of the main reasons I bought this vape was having the ability to control the temperature. I was definitely surprised when I got mine in the mail, went to the App Store for the download, and found nothing. On the site it says August.

--
I'm honestly not as disgruntled as it may sound. I'm just sharing my observations, and I'm still excited to fully experience this vape. I'd just like some more information with solid details qualifying the safety of the materials used, and validating the quality of a very expensive device.

Is the silicone safe? When is the app going live? What do you really mean by "medical grade" and "safest materials"?

Thanks.

Couldn't appreciate your backup more. You may touch my body anytime. :D

This is silicone in the airpath. Clearly. Undoubtedly. Undeniably. It'd be nice to know what type.
Furthermore, what is the maximum potential temperature (and lifespan) of that coil? What is the radiant potential heat experienced by the silicone airpath walls directly beyond the heat exchanger? The answer doesn't matter, it's cheap and gross with a limited lifespan and a stupid sticker price

Why avoid the elephant in the room and just say that there most certainly is silicone in the vapor pathway.

I'm more concerned with the fact that silicone is so close to a glowing coil (#31). It's not the vapour path, but also the air path that is important. It just seems a bit 'hide behind facts' to minimise the discussion to 'its not there / it's food safe'.

Their solution is probably quite considered, so it'd be nice if they can show off their engineering skillsets a bit on such a crucial topic to vaping as safety

I mean, in the name of vaporisation.

Golden Pubic Hair of Precision award! :D

the shipping box does not reference vapes in any way.

It does not, in fact I thought my socks arrived!

Care to fill me in? Is Ghost threatening a user who reviewed the product poorly or something?

Edit: Never mind, juts saw Ghost's post on the vapelife forum. Unreal .

Real :(

I'm not sure if it's to high of expectations or missed release dates or early production snafu's. Or over promises-misinformation. Either way it makes for some really good reading.

Indeed it does!

smarts aren't my thing...

each seal location could be a potential maintenece location and definite troubleshooting location for weak vapor production or heat algorithm issues

Smarts are your thing afterall ;)

but that's the beauty of life...we all have our own eyes, brains and sensory receptors and are more than able to make educated desicions if we remember we have the power to

God how many rules were broken in that post?

If someone is breaking the rules, report it and do not respond. While we've had several reports concerning this thread, it's therefore odd that none of them came from you.

This is meant for everyone.

Anyone who's been at FC for a while knows that a new expensive highly anticipated device will arouse strong emotions, pro and con—especially when someone reports off-gassing. It gets hard to keep things civil. Our rules require it, however. Please don't post in haste. Re-read to make sure that you're not getting personal and that you have you facts straight. Disagreement is fine, disrespect is not.

I have made a report. You are incorrect.

It absolutely is, well, except for the no app thing...

I thought I bought an app, too?

Edit: Actually, aside from the missing app (and possible off-gasses...) I'd say it's delivering more. I had no idea it would be this good with concentrates.
..and the over-heating, hot spots, battery issues, etc. being reported on Bud's very own forum. Seems like quite a few users are opting for his "satisfaction guarantee" return offer. I'm confused as to why neither Ghost or Bud have come to the customers who are experiencing off gassing issues aid but rather deny/attack them.
@Gibarian did you contact Ghost with your off gassing issue directly? If so, what was their response?

I opted to post in the affiliate's very own thread, here. To see, if its normal (temporary), if it is common, if it is unique to mine or if he/they care, explain, help. Also for a general response.

Well, YouTube and here... right? Maybe that’s the issue?

Look, I just bought a new vape and came here for info. You supplied a ton and I appreciate that. I have no beef with you at all (why would I?). I just made a few observations and cracks about the situation (it's obviously not a pubic hair.) Bummer about your electronic paperweight. Maybe Bud will buy it back?

have to store and link video from somewhere, for posting on FC. At the end of the day these kind of actions making a difference, not a discreet chat with a Hannah or a Luke, from Customer Support, along the guidelines of business interests.
came here for info
and I bet you want it unbiased.

BTW I laughed so hard your joke I took no offence at all, don't be silly :D

And its not a paperweight afterall, once I'm confident in the burn-out AND the company, I am happy to get on testing performance, later on that!

I like the comments about the potency, but the comment about the Supreme V3 getting a couple of tokes out of spent material tells me there's still a ways to go.

My next portable will have the power of the Sublimator, my current one nearly does as it is.
Word on the street is the Supreme can compete, so that's the current top dog portable contender IMO. But it's barely portable, however.

For a direct toke device, the MV1 looks pretty good relatively. The heatsink and airpath dynamic is overall pretty decent. It could possibly do with better insulating material, which would allow for a more efficient extraction and less stirring.

Typically I vape 0.15g in a single long toke, that's real potency. It does require a cooling device to tolerate that, but it's the equivilant of hitting the bong which requires a bong.
For a more portable solution, the MV1 seems alright. But a Grasshopper with silicone hosing would be a real contender for a powerful, portable, cool hits with convection style heating.
For an out of the box solution, this Ghost is like a GH/Mighty hybrid, which is pretty awesome but not for me. I am all about one hit extraction, I'd love to upgrade the hopper to a better one hitter with real durability but it looks like I'll be waiting a long time!

That could just be the sv3's conduction vs the mv1's convection, but does obviously illustrate an incomplete extraction.

As for the offgassing.... just my experience, but i've seen this before with a brand new vape - the Inhalater portable. It came from the polyimide capsules, and I concluded that it was due to oils or some sort of residue on my fingers.

I've seen this with some other vapes as well, to a lesser extent, when brand new. Perhaps some units were assembled differently (manually by hand ala VapexHale back in the day) and have some oils from fingers or manufacture residue.

As for the lawsuit threat - :rofl:Good fucking luck with that Ghost! Hope you have a lot of money, an amazing lawyer, and A LOT of proof! Sorry, that just screamed "cry baby" to me.

MoltenTiger....... Your opinions on the MV1 would change if you used it for a day. Your 1.5g bowl is not needed. You could easily go .07 and get 2-4 draws that would each equal a normal binger hit in performance. The amount of extraction and results from the MV1 are incredible. I could take 10-14 draws off my Air or Vapcap and still not as ripped as 3 draws on my MV1. It puts me into outer space with results....really. And it is not that the Air and Vapcap cant get me really ripped....it is not not anywhere on the same level of effects....amazing really.

It is hard to draw a conclusion with this vape because of some that are not use to a somewhat more "technical or picky" use scenario. And then there are reports of people having battery issues and other issues which are real....and can easily be fixed with replacements, like the mouth piece thing. Also, there were so many times that I watched/read along with others using the device and had problems getting it to work right....only later to find out there were reasons for this and either simple checks to make sure a heat sink was all the way on....or some other minor mistake in setup or settings was the reason...then BAM...they get it working and are blown away also.

So wither you are worried about the vape overall and its use for you...or you are worried this vape is not as powerful as all the hype..... Those are 2 very different things.

I was happy to see S-Pete's initial review thoughts....I think he was about 99% spot on with what he said and showed. I always hold him and VC up as excellent information sources and trust them well enough to make decisions on.

I don't see why he would make a vape with this much of a learning curve. It would have been way better to make a simple device that does herb and concentrate without sticking all this extra stuff onto it. The way to pack the capsules or whatever at least on reviews, seems unsafe at the very least. I mean I have a sublimator so I know about learning curves and I dont want to have to wait for the capsules to cool down or burn by fingers trying to get them out. Sure there are tools to get it out, but its a portable device. I can't stop where I am to get out tools and empty out a capsule OR hold a hot one while I'm throwing in another. This seems anti intuitive.

I've seen good performance out of it, but I've seen a lot of bad performance out of it too. Maybe a vape controlled or... find tuned... by an app isnt the best choice.

A vape with a simple oven with a killer air flow and great extraction and replaceable 18650's with an all glass or ceramic path is all I want.

A vape should do everything you want without you needing to know that you need to turn it upside down and draw air slowly while the concentrate melts into the unit... that was in one of the video reviews.... I'm not going to remember that. I'm a disabled vet with about 1/3rd of his memory left in the first place (not to mention im usually very high). I'll probably forget this post after I write it.

My point is, this is a very inconvenient vape IMO that I find hard to want to even learn to use since it looks like there are a lot of ways to burn yourself if you forget exactly what to do. I just want to dump it out and keep going.

After spending a few years here on fc I have found these reviews to be a bit on the beginners side of things. In other words I feel they have to dumb it down a bit to feed the masses. The fc community has gotten me to rely on its own trusted members to get my info on these new units. And if it's not in any fc members hand yet then I'll wait until more have them. I have nothing against VC and followed him years ago when he was just starting out somewhat.
FC is the absolute best place to find out any and all things related to mj vaporizers. IMO.

I agree HD Springer..... For me...when I have no idea of what a certain vape is like.....I feel pretty comfortable with the general info and experience from those to reviewers in a sense they easily point me in the right direction of wanting to get it or know if it is probably not for me and my use needs.

Then.....you dial your needs and usage with all the excellent info here from so many good people spreading their knowledge and results.

So in my experience as a converter to vaping meds......My transition into it was well informed and guided. I got almost exactly what I expected with hardware purchases and feel I saved a ton of cash If I did not research here and other places and just went with the flow of marketing and what was available in my local shops and what friends opinions were......I would of wasted hundreds of coin on crappy worthless equipment and had a bad intro into vaping.

Razor, the MV1 is not for you because it does not fit your use scenario. I can highly suggest a Ti dynavap with a induction heater from member Pipes. This is super easy to use and load.....and also great results. So for less than $200 you could have an excellent vape system.

Trees and Food / Nature is my Medicina...
To somewhat contrast that last point.

What vape is not inconvenient?
What vape does not have a learning curve to an extent?
What vape does not require a process or routine to load and use?
What vape does not get warm?

You can't expect vaping to be as simple as smoking.
Just as you definitely can't expect the beneficial health results to come, without a bit of effort.

I've been through a lot of them, spent way too much on them, every one of them has some process/routine to it (if you consider it an inconvenience than consider it such), and yes some do have more than others... To each their own, I guess.
Volcano - cleaning was a real hastle, loading chamber got warm.
Solo - always had to use a screen and keeping tube clean, glass gets warm.
E-nano - OMG the screen was so touchy and glass gets warm.
MFLB - pretty simple yet ugh the char harshness, and the batteries.
Mighty - actually pretty straight forward but you gotta use A Lot, very warm in spots while using it.
Dynavap - cap, torch and chamber tip, all potential burns.
MV1 - crucible lid is the one part that may be too hot to touch briefly.
[I find the MV1 very much similar to my Dynavap products in terms of amazing performance]
All of these vapes though, with the proper use can deliver.
Each of these vapes can offer a different sort of experience, some being perhaps more simple than others to use while another may be more efficient in delivering quick potency, etc..
Like an action will have a reaction, things will have trade-offs, you have to pick and choose what works for you.

Have had mine over a week now and still getting better with it, absolutely blown away by how it can deliver, not just the punch but opening the crucible up to see a barely changed in appearance remaining tree. I would recommend holding any hate for this vape, until after you've tried it, if any hate remains.

My annoyance (if I had to call it one) at this point, is the 15 second cut off, but I found my way around it by simply about 5 seconds into the draw, pausing my inhale and repressing the button to begin the cycle over (which since it's already warm only takes a second or two), then I re-continue my draw and either finish before the end of the (second) 15 second cycle or draw up until the end. This technique has been kicking my ass in a good way!
With that said, I really hope the app includes the option to extend that cut off time to say 25 seconds.

How is the heat retention in the mv-1? That's my biggest question. Is it non existent or does the bowl/crucible retain any heat after you let off the power. I don't think I've read anything from anyone about that which is leading me to think it has absolute none.

I would wait until Ghost gets the app out so we can hopefully know exactly what temps are units are running at. For me, my MV1 is running warm in the sense that I only use the lowest flower setting for 80% of my load...then maybe the last few on the 2nd heat setting for flower. I get tons of vapor and taste like this. I frankly can not understand how others are using it at much higher temps if they units are running like mine.

So...you will see lots of comments on how hot the door of the crucible gets..or they can't handle the crucible when taking out and cleaning/reloading it. First off the metal crucible door is a heat sink so it is expected it will get hot...but how hot should it be normally at various settings? Answer to that is also unknown until we get the app to make sure temps are as they should be.

That said with the hot crucibles....I don't have a problem when I space my draws out...but if you do a few back to back....the crucible will get fairly hot. When it comes time to take it out and handle the crucible, do a dry draw (power off) for about 5 seconds...this helps a bit to cool it down. Then when you open the door...wait 15 seconds or so as you blow air some air on it. Then I have no probs with handling the hot crucible issues.

Another issue with some running temp settings much higher than me.....the vape allows for massive cooling of the vapor and you do not feel it. It is the first thing that I was so impressed with. I can not handle direct draws off any other vape without water. I can with the MV1...but still want to use water even it if is not necessary for others or their likes.
