Multi-brand Vivant Alternate

My Alternate also has these stress cracks between the screws.

The V3 topcap fits much tighter than the previous cap and it seems to be stressing the cracks even more. It's so tight when it's cool that it feels like it's gonna break and it opens with a hard snap. It makes you second guess on if you are opening it the right direction. Once it's warm it swings open smoothly to empty.

The airflow seems a little less resistive with the V3 cap. I had to close down the green damper a little to get the feel of the previous cap. All is good now.

When you use the V3 top cap the way it is intended to be used, you do in fact hear a snap that doesn't sound good when locking and unlocking the top cap from the chamber. I removed the clear rubber piece and now it is fine.

The clear rubber piece that wraps around this metal piece that sits inside the top cap. This new metal piece in the V3 top cap is not to be confused with the metal screw that holds the topcap pieces together.

I have photos of the rubber piece I am trying to describe on my phone, but I don't know how to post photos on this site from my smart phone.

Enjoying a lazy sunday after cleaning my water piece with ISO and salt, I hooked up the Alternate using a Crafty silicone adapter from @Ratchett's Delta 3D Studios. Works like a charm.

It's really frustrating to deal with stuff like that, and I'm so sorry.

However, this is FuckCombustion and I would be remiss not to say that the Alternate (for me) is doing an AMAZING job assisting in the fucking of combustion. The Alternate is a badass motherfucking vape when it works right. It chugs through battery very quickly, but that's because it has some real power!

The vapor is true convection, there might be some slight amount of conduction but only if the bowl is packed tight. Anyways, most users here like a tad of conduction with their convection (Supreme, Evo, etc).

The top of the vape gets very hot, but I'm okay with that because I'm blown away by the clouds at 428, especially if I mix a little hash in with the weed.

Anyways, I'm not sure what the point of this post is, just wanted to mention that there are some of us that are extremely happy with their Alternate and haven't had any problems with the build quality.

My sense is that this is a batch issue, because it's weird that some people have problems right away and some (like me) seem to have no problems at all. I'm not babying my unit, I run high temp bowls back to back until the battery dies.

So thumbs up, @Vivant !!!! I know you guys have had some trouble along the way but the quality of the vapor this unit produces is so high relative to the price that I have no doubt there are better days ahead for the company and this vaporizer.

A few questions for @Vivant ...

1. Is there an ETA on a proprietary WPA solution? This vape shines through water.

2. Is it possible that the Vivant could have a power adapter somewhere down the line? Or some type of charger that allows for pass-through usage? This little bugger hits like a desktop vape, and I so badly wish it WAS a desktop vape.

3. (This is more of a recommendation/ramble) This heating system + bowl assembly is so effective that I can't help but imagine it repurposed into a plugin-vaporizer. A bulkier version of the Vivant with a cord power source, a better heatsink, and a WPA...sheesh, that'd be nice.

PS: @KeroZen and @AJS I know you guys are the battery experts around here. Is it lazy to ask for a link to buying batteries that will work in the Alternate? I tried the e cig forums and my head is spinning, I'm worried I'll buy fakes/rewraps/the wrong amps...

PPS: So, there's no WPA out yet...where there's a will, there's a way!

Hello YungLeaner,

You can expect a WPA for the Alternate in apporx. 1-2 months if everything goes over well with our warehouse. There is no MSRP as of yet, but we will inform our customers once we have a price point here on FC.

Thank you for your input regarding a power adapter for the Alternate. There are no set plans for anything in these regards at the moment. I will be sure to pass your suggestion to our team for any future references/potential projects we may have.

We appreciate your input and interest in Vivant.

Thank you,

Vivant Team

Anyone that owns this AND a firewood4?

mm hmm?

Different vapes - biggest differences are:

1. Load size (FW4 is best with 0.05-0.07 max, the Alternate can do at least twice that)
2. Alternate is definitely a session vape and the FW4 you can do one or a few hits here and there
3. Reloadable capsules are the best
4. Alternate is easier to use - you can hand it to anyone and they can use it. FW4 requires some technique.
5. FW4 looks awesome

Finally got the postal quote to work.

$45US for postage alone is crazy, no way I am paying that. You guys in the US get killed on your postal charges.

Anyone want to buy a few V3.0 top caps and put them up on eBay with USPS postage?

We pay relatively cheap prices, (usually well under 7 dollars for something within the US like a mouthpiece) international just costs a lot no matter where it's going or coming from...except China apparently. They ship to us for next to nothing.

I usually get small items sent from the states by USPS for $15 and takes 2-3 weeks. No idea how China manage to post out so much stuff for zero postage.

How is it possible to manufacture and ship an item across an ocean for two bucks?

A big part of the explanation is a United Nations body called the Universal Postal Union. The UPU helps coordinate rates and standards between nearly every national postal system, and has been a crucial piece of global infrastructure since its founding in 1874 (it was absorbed into the United Nations only in the 20th century). But critics argue that the system now amounts to a subsidy for international shipping from developing countries and net exporters.

The UPU system is extremely complex, with countries slotted into at least nine different categories, which are based on their level of development and effect the terminal dues rates they pay to each other. These rates are generally far below rates paid by domestic shippers. For example, as of 2012, the terminal dues on items from China to the U.S. were about one U.S. dollar per kilogram. This means that in many if not most cases, the U.S. Postal Service received less compensation for a China Post package moved from a Los Angeles port to its final destination inland, than it would have from someone in Los Angeles who sent an identical package within the United States. The last half of that voice chip’s journey would have cost China Post less than the price of a U.S. stamp.

I feel like the flavor w/ the v3 mouthpiece is a lot better than the other versions. The metal to silicone air path is genius. The heat sink does a really good job of dissipating the heat. When taking huge rips through water at 400+ the top cap doesn't even get warm.

Potential V2 Alternate:
  1. Aluminum build
  2. Smaller design *1in shorter would be amazing imo
  3. Insulated battery compartment
  4. Automatic shut off after session timer runs down
  5. Faster heat up time
  6. Better battery life *with the amount of vapor it puts out right now I wouldn't even be mad if it stayed the same
  7. Keep the same heater because it's the shit or 100% on demand convection

This. The place I bought my alternate from is out of business, and its ~30USD to ship this thing to Canada. That's nuts. I appreciate the 1 or 2 day shipping options, but give me a cheaper option that takes longer and I might even buy a dabox.

My mate bought one from Heaven_Gifts when he saw how well mine worked with the WPA so he is screwed. Heaven_Gifts said the vape comes with the new top caps but it didn't. When he contacted them they said they would send him the V3 top caps if he bought a whole new Alternate from them. I told him to throw it away.

We appreciate your suggestions for a 2nd Alternate. I will be sure to relay your feedback and input to our team here at Vivant.

@Vivant is there plans for a V2 Alternate? djchexxx's suggestions would be great and solve a lot of problems.

That would be great if they would do that. Let us know what they say.

My Alternate just croaked. It was set to 180 but I smelled a strong cannabis odor. The green light was not on and the temp read 220C.

I took a couple of draws and realized I was at cusp of combustion. Turned unit off. Got error code 5.

My Alternate is going back to PIU. Maybe later if they get the top cap and material safety issues resolved I will give them my $.

PIU sent me a return label even before I could come here and write the obituary for my Alternate. In the beginning (before the top cap issues were known) I used my Alternate a LOT.

Once my top cap melted and my new one was in customs for a couple of weeks I never really got back to it as a regular thing.

Well, they didn't provide a new shipping method, but Ivan from Vivant support definitely stepped up and provided an option that worked for me. All I would say is email them, they have a great support system to stand behind their initially flawed products. I couldn't be happier with my Alternate and it's actually becoming more of my daily driver to my surprise. Can't wait to test out the new top cap and see what it does to the flavor path.

Bummer. I contacted them but they didn't have any options for me. How much did you end up paying for the shipping?

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Ivan at Vivant is the man. He helped me out for my warranty!

Does anyone know if using a Crafty top cap instead of a V3 top cap on an Alternate is better at not absorbing too much heat?

My Alternate mouthpiece gets super super hot even at a 392° sesh.
