Vapes on Planes - Traveling With Vaporizers

... I just don't think the TSA is looking for pot.

Sorry to clip the rest of your entertaining post, but this is the most important part for all. They're looking for other things, and not drugs at all unless you're carrying a lot!

You really want to get harangued? Have more than a 1/4 cup of some powder in your bag. Doesn't matter whether baby powder, protein additive for "healthy" drinks, or anything else. A friend I was traveling with had some whey protein in an unmarked container she had forgotten about in her carry on (leftover from a trip by car the month before). They had her off to the side for more than 30 minutes, even though she started the whole ordeal with "just whey protein powder and not too much, you can throw it out". No way, no how! They rubbed down the container, her bag and her with all kinds of explosive detecting wipes. They dumped a little of it into a plastic bag that had some other powder in it, shook it around and looked at it like they were on CSI. As we were finally getting out of there, they had just escorted a woman off to the side and were pulling out her shower to shower powder!

I wouldn't push them too far, and better to not have anything on you. But a pre-rolled or 1/2 gram stashed here or there isn't going to raise an eyebrow unless it is right in their face while checking out something else - like a butane jet lighter! But, that's a different story! :)

Hidden in plain sight is sometimes the best bet.

Don't think this is the best with TSA. They know what shit looks like and If they see something, they will probably act on it. Like if they found a joint or one of my small clear bead containers with something in it while snagging my jet lighter recently, I have no doubts they would have thrown it out or worse - alerted local authorities. I was clean other than jet lighters and clean vapes for the most part (and buzzed!), so wasn't too worried about it. I think the trick is to keep it all on the very downlow - in your checked bag a 1/2 gram or 2 "accidentally" left in different pants pockets or gram of hash/trate in something that looks right mixed in with your toiletries? Probably not an issue from experiences SWIM has told me of, as they're scanning many checked bags at the same time and usually trying to move them through as quickly as possible.

All of this of course much different when dealing with customs (international) coming in or going out. For instance I was in Jamaica a couple years ago. They don't play down there, whether coming in or going out. I was totally clean both ways. Took a new FlowerMate (cheap and eh effective - tested once at home and cleaned very well) that served me OK. Well worth the $60 or so it had cost me IMO. Though must admit, I combusted more in that 10 days than I have otherwise for past 8 - 9 years combined! So, if I go again I'll just plan on smoking and take a pack of papers and a couple plain old Bic lighters.

Didn't even consider bringing FM or anything else home - even threw out my rolling papers. I did some wheeling & dealing for trinkets with my leftover stash from the dude that was apparently the boss man for all the young dudes selling on fringes of resort, and left the FlowerMate with my favorite poolside bartender. He was psyched to get it (I had passed him a few hits here and there, and he was digging it), and I felt good about leaving him with a special gift. And, felt even better knowing I was clean - especially when they were roaming around the airport with little dogs obviously looking for something other than explosives. Even saw them escort a young couple away to who knows where after one of the dogs marked them. Hope all went well for them, but was very glad it wasn't me!

Not saying it is ever a good idea to travel with anything that could get you in trouble, material itself or dirty gear. But if you do, do some research (like right in this thread!) and KNOW - don't think so - what your situation is and plan accordingly. In some places (like international travel and Texas for instance), you could find yourself in a world of shit for a small amount. In others, not so much and less concern (eg NYC to LA & back), because they couldn't care less about your little bit. They aren't really looking for it, but if they see it, it will probably at least be confiscated. Also, keep in mind that TSA agents are probably living locally wherever you are, and you should be aware of what local is like.

FWIW, I'd never do any of this! Interstate - or worse international - transfer of illegal substances, can get you in some serious shit pretty quickly, and depending on where you happen to be could be very expensive or have you on an extended vacation in a cell for a while. If you choose to take the risks, it's on you, NOT anything you may mistakenly take as advice from my musings here! ;)

Note the word "sometimes". I'm not talking about having an ounce in the top of your bag but a friend of mine travels internationally every month with a lump of hash thrown in the trays with the coins out his pocket.

I'm glad it works out for him, but you'll never find me doing that - not even on that LA to NYC flight! Hell, not even from legal state here to legal state or within the same legal state. It's just not worth it.

And, I don't know how the authorities are with such things on that side of the pond, but the asshole TSA Agent/cop/whatever here that sees and confronts on something like this is probably going to be all the more pissed at your audacity for trying something so fucking blatant.

If you ever find yourself on the wrong side of authorities (even for a speeding ticket), you don't want them thinking that you're "one of those kind of assholes". They usually have a good bit of leeway at the beginning of any such incident, and you want as much of that as possible flowing in a positive direction for you when shit gets hairy. Fortunately, many people do turn into total assholes towards authorities in such situations. That makes a few yessir/nossir's and a genuine feeling and look of remorse for being such a fucking idiot work even more in your favor. Is this kissing ass? FUCK YEAH! Is it better to roll over and figuratively kiss ass at this point rather than literally be bent over and take it there in your cell for the next 6 - 18 months? Hope I don't even have to answer that one for you!

Nothing against your friend in particular, but I've also heard and read many tales I find hard to believe or utterly stupid - more than a few in this very thread. And, this is definitely one of those categories where you don't want to follow such things believing they are true.

A little thought and common sense - best being to not even try it - can be a major benefit with any of this. I know no one will be more pissed than I am at myself if I try to push hash through with my loose change if I get snagged and I have to go to that horrifying back room - whether I make it out of there with charges or not.

IOW, why be stupid and blatant when it's so easy to be smart and subtle? At worst (and I've never heard of it happening) if they find a small amount in your checked bag they're going to call you in and have a discussion. If you have any doubts that discussion and your dumbass excuse isn't going to go well - like in Jamaica or most far eastern or middle east countries - stay totally clean. A situation like domestic travel in US, and you think you'll probably be able to get away with "I didn't know it was in there", they take it and just scare the shit out of you sure as Hell isn't too fun, but could be worse if things ever get that far. I truly think that in most major metropolitan airports here, if they find a small amount in your checked bag they'll just take it and throw it out (or maybe take it home for themselves if some good shit!). Probably not worth the necessary time and paperwork to them in most situations like this. That's less baggage they'll be checking and would be gumming up the works to no end. But, different places could react differently so could be more of a risk than anticipated.

Whatever the case, this is one of those situations where hiding in plain site IS NOT the best way to go IMO. Don't really want to quibble with you about it, but don't want some poor fool coming here to check what works and go with the poor advice I think you're providing. Well, not unless you can guarantee to get them out of a jail cell quickly and pay their legal fees if it doesn't work as well for them as your friend.

Travelling inside the EU, with a clean Mighty inside a pelican box, with a couple of empty dosing capsules that have been dipped in ISO.

What are the risks? Can I be charged with anything? Would it be best to use a new CU?

No one can predict what can happen to you , it all depends on the police and what they feel is right to do if caught. In all honesty you should be fine , probably safer to have a clean cooling unit. Worst case they may take it away but if its completely clean you are all good and i wouldn't worry.

I would also think that I'm safe, after all vaporizers are not illegal... but getting my Mighty taken away would be heart breaking.

Does anyone has experience with the definition of "paraphernalia" in different EU countries? My hand luggage was once swapped with one of those strips in Belgium, apparently it tested positive, but when the guy showed it to the supervisor the latter just said "that's ok" (or something in that genre) so I guess the "intensity" was not high enough.

But I wonder if my Mighty was to be swapped, if they could take it away from me on the basis of it being paraphernalia, even tho no actual greenery would be present. I'm particularly interested about experiences entering the UK, as most countries in the continent do not have border checks.

Vaporizers can be used for all kinds of substances, legal and otherwise. Maybe vape some mint so that it does not smell of cannabis. Then, where's the crime?

I'm from the uk and have travelled with a Crafty to Amsterdam, and also to Asia and Africa. Packaged in original box in my suitcase and never had any problems.

The worst thing you can do is arouse suspicion by carrying something they don't expect to see. If what you're carrying "looks normal" they won't give you a second look.

Flew into Beijing a week ago with a 650 mAh battery, charger screwed on. Laid it next to my phone in the bin going through security. No problem. Squirted a couple grams of co2 oil into an emptied travel toothpaste container too. Having a wonderful time.

Not sure if it was mentioned but I think VaporGenie makes a metal version that can be soaked in alcohol and cleaned to perfection most likely...it will look like a tobacco pipe to most TSA.

I mean just be smart, I have traveled with canisters of kief back from Colorado, looks like makeup when put with it.

Just back from America to the uk, traveled with a grasshopper in my hold baggage and had the batteries in my carry on as per the FAA instructions on carrying Lithium batteries.

Also while sitting in Minneapolis Airport on my return I found a wrap of mdma in my wallet that had been there for months. I had traveled uk to Amsterdam, to Salt Lake city, to billings, MT then to Minneapolis before I had noticed.

Hi folks I've traveled plenty of times with my vape in my checked bag with no worries or trouble. However I've got a domestic US flight coming up soon that I'm only brining a carry on for. I would love to bring my mighty with me, but I'm a tad scketed about brining it in the carry on. Any advice or encouragement one way or the other?

Thanks pals, travel safe.

Well . .. if your travel interest is only domestic, If you have a clean Mighty, without something else that will get you caught, you might make it. Good luck if you try.

yes they swab for explosives. Not all cases get swabed, mine did, my wife and daughters didn't. As said above if it's clean and you follow FAA rules on Lithium batteries you are pretty safe. I also had lots of atv parts in my case that I thought they might have a problem with but he just brushed them aside when swabing.

I got back from a UK to USA flight, I took a Vapcap M and a Healthyrips Fury 2 and they both got through with no issue at all, even though the Fury was quite fragrant! They swabbed my bag on my journey out, you could see the screen on the machine saying 'scanning for explosives' or something similar. I really don't think they care if you have a smelly vape on you. It might make them look closer through the rest of your bags if they spot it, but if you're not carrying any meds then what can they really do?

On another trip, Heathrow baggage inspectors quizzed me about some Arizer Solo stems but not the vape itself. I just told them it was e-cig stuff. They were fine with that and let me go.

This doesn't apply to the UAE though, never take anything herb related if you're going there. I remember there was a guy who had 0.003g stuck to the bottom of his shoe and ended up with a 4-year sentence!
