This Shit with North Korea is Getting More Than Just a Bit Scary.....

I think there's an embedded racism in which civilian populations the US chooses to destroy.
And I think that Trump is a representative of that point of view.
Bringing it back to the korean peninsula, general patton called the koreans (among others, including russians) "mongols" to dehumanize them. General macarthur wanted to wipe them off the map.

That's why macarthur had to be relieved from command, to avoid going to war with china.

I've gotten off track because I was just reading about No Gun Ri. So close to the Nuremberg trials. I know that quite a few of you served in the military in some capacity and am thinking about what it must have been like for the young guys who served in our military to be ordered to shoot and kill so many women and children. Or did they dissociate from what they were doing by seeing them all as "gooks".
Ok sorry for getting distracted. I will stick to Trump from now on.

Not to slide off the rails but Hilter was addicted to cocaine and many soldiers in the Third Reich were addicted to methamphetamines. Maybe that made things easier when they murdered mass numbers of Jewish people.

But what about our soldiers who were probably almost all under 25 during the Korean war. I don't think cocaine was available in the US then but don't know.

To me some of the worst German atrocities were the horrible experiments on people the scientists did and I don't think it was drugs so much as their ability to dehumanize and see Jews or Gypsies as lab rats.

Downward spiral
The Germans deep hatred of the Jewish people has been well documented in history. Not here to give a history lesson. We all have Google to learn more if we so choose.

@little maggie -- At minimum you'd have to go back to World War 1(some historians may say it goes back way further than that) to see the beginnings of the later atrocities committed.

@CarolKing -- It wasn't mass use of drugs by soldiers.

1.)Life Before the Holocaust

2.)Key Dates
SEPTEMBER 1791
JEWS EMANCIPATED IN FRANCE

The term "emancipation of Jews" means the removal of all legal discrimination against Jews and the granting of rights equal to those of other citizens in a country. In September 1791, the National Assembly of France granted rights of citizenship to Jews who took a loyalty oath. France was in the vanguard of the emancipation movement. For example, Jews were only later emancipated in Greece (1830), Great Britain (1858), Italy (1870), Germany (1871), and Norway (1891). Although civil equality for Jews was thus guaranteed by law, European Jewry remained beset by antisemitism and social discrimination.

JUNE 24, 1922
JEWISH POLITICIAN ASSASSINATED IN GERMANY

Walter Rathenau, one of the most prominent Jewish political figures of the Weimar Republic, is assassinated by right-wing radicals. Rathenau, the president of the General Electric Corporation of Germany (AEG) since 1915, became foreign minister of the Weimar Republic in 1922. As a Jew, he was hated by right-wing groups particularly for his policy of fulfilling the terms of the Treaty of Versailles and his normalization of relations with the Soviet Union. His murder is indicative of the right-wing antisemitic campaign blaming Jews for Germany's defeat in World War I.

MARCH 9, 1936
POGROM IN PRZYTYK, POLAND

Violence erupts in Poland. Three Jews are killed and more than sixty wounded in the town of Przytyk, Poland. In the days following the attack, the pogrom spreads to neighboring towns. Before the pogrom is ended, almost 80 Jews are killed and over 200 wounded. Violence against Jews is widespread throughout central Poland between 1935 and 1937. Anti-Jewish pogroms take place, for example, in Czestochowa, Lublin, Bialystok, and Grodno.

3.)It is difficult to pinpoint one single trigger for Adolf Hitler’s (1889-1945) antisemitism, but three key reasons can be identified: the anti-Jewish climate in pre-war Vienna, Germany’s defeat in the First World War and Hitler’s belief that some races were superior and others inferior.

Eerily similarities to some current beliefs if you ask me.(I mean in the world, PLEASE, dont think I am directing this at anybody specific. We have all participated so far, in this thread while remaining civil and learning from one another. My post is meant to answer the last two questions above this post).

MANY, MANY, countries/people, looked the other way while this happened.

@stickstones without intent perhaps, but the results were exactly the same as if the sign was put up with bigoted racial intent, from the perspective of the jewish guest at this resort during that time.

Had to read that article since it was so current. Racism is stupid, but this appears to be stupidity without racial intent. The media and powers that be will completely misinterpret it and possibly slander the Swiss.
I also think this was more stupidity and general lack of awareness than anti-semitism.

Now, I don't know which "ultra-orthedox Jews" they were talking about there, but being a Jew who was taken to NY to visit my Mom's family in the summer, I can tesify that there are a LOT of really smelling Hasidic Jews who apparently haven't been pried out of that black suit they wear every day for far too long.

Can't tar everyone with the same brush, but any of you shop at a real Amish farm market...in the summer....without nose plugs? LOL

But how many of the New York Jews would be going to a spa. Maybe someone like Jared Kushner. I read the article but didn't see them mention ultra orhodox Jews anywhere.

I haven't seen confederate flaggers do anything to unite the people of this country. They're just a bunch of southern Patriots/history buffs to my knowledge. I see some black Southerners standing with them as southern Patriots but that's about as far as the niceities have gone. It seems mostly the rebel part that they cherish

I'm in the minority I think about wishing they'd left the confederate statues alone.
We are straying or maybe I am straying so far from Korea. Is there a thread somewhere about Trump and racism? Or should we start one?

I'm not here to argue. Constitutions are laws..and laws are being overshadowed by some minorities rebellious nature. I just brought it up cause I didn't know much else why the subject would change from Koreans to Jews at a swimming pool in light of recent events. It would likely be a welcome thread but I don't have the patience for debating on it

I wish there was a thread I'm just not sure it would be able to stay open for very long. I hope I'm wrong. People have very strong thoughts and opinions on this subject.

Yes, we do. Here's mine:

The goal of the alt-left and alt-right movements is the same: to divide and conquer america, through media lies and animosity that push false narratives for political gain. They are trying to manipulate everybody into hating each other, so that the deep state can usher in an unconstitutional authoritarian government.

A bit frightening how far they need to dummy down the news coverage of stuff like this for the masses. Not you guys of course; you are the enlightened masses.

I mean the idiot masses that need to be told every 10 minutes on CNN that Guam are Korea are close to each other and that if Korea does launch our counter missiles need to go up immediately or not at all.

I agree with this thought entirely. Very concise and accurate, IMO.

Not the only one, my ancestors were in a border state during the war and were reduced from farmers and stock breeders to homeless wretches hiding in the hills to avoid both sides. I want people to remember all the cruelty and evil perpetrated by citizens against citizens and destroying the icons of the defeated just hides more of the reality of the event from people who should remember and know better. Screw our bad education system and historical revisionism.

What is the alt-left? Are the anti-fascists in Charlottesville alt-left? It's a new term to me so I'd like to know who that means.
While definitions of the 'alts' are still somewhat in flux, I like the urban dictionary's top two:

1
alt-left
Firm believers in a Liberal/Social Democracy ex.( Liberties mentioned in The Bill of Rights etc...) but with a type of Socialist Market Economy;
An alternative political movement that seeks to unite those who feel underrepresented or marginalized by current mainstream political channels, who seek to adhere to left-wing policies while rejecting what they deem the regressive left agenda; "Identity Politics", "Censorship in College campuses","Trigger Warnings", "All whites are racist", "All men are sexist" and other bullshit narratives .
Alt-Leftists despise SJWs/Regressive Leftists for their insanity denial of obvious facts and racist agenda; They despise conservatives for just being insane; They also are against corporate Neo-Liberalism ex. Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer etc...

2
alt-left
A member of the left who rejects neoliberalism and SJWs of the traditional left. There typically far-left on economics however center to center right on social issues. Common positions on the alt-left is being against identy politics, support for socialism, against free trade, and support for gun rights. A good example of the alt-left is /leftypol/
The alt-left is gaining political ground after Clinton's loss of the 2016 presidential election.
