Maybe better to say YOUR file modded M (SS) tips work better than YOUR Ti tips for YOU?

I prefer the Ti tips with PortSide and have found the SS M tip to be a bit more difficult to work with. Figure there is at least a little bit of variation between specific units, and maybe more from model to model. This before we even get into vaping preferences.

Have no doubts that your set up as described is what you like best, but maybe not a full confirmation for all or the perfect way to go. Certainly doesn't seem the best for me.

FWIW, my Ti tips work great with 1 - 1 1/2 seconds past click on cold VC, and right at click once warmed up. ABV is evenly cooked. For last hit (4th or 5th with loosely loaded VC) to get all I can and make ABV coffee brown, I do a quick stir and go back to 1 to 1 1/2 second past click. Has been working great for a couple weeks! My filed M/SS tip seems trickier to work out heating, and more inconsistent. YMMV

True. Very true. Great thing about this stuff, is that its all customizable to one's own preference

Finding the same thing. I made the rookie mistake and was bold in thinking I had my technique all set, and only brought a Portside and Nonavong with me this weekend. Accidentally grabbed a SS tip, because it fit. Bad combination for me!

I must not be holding my mouth right. My M tip works perfectly with my JH. Ti-tips for me, is a knife edge. One nano-second to long and "smoken". I'll keep working at it, (love this research:)). Doc

This is true for me. I have realized that giving the vapcap a preheat and then waiting about 15 seconds before actually heating it to the click really helped out the Vapor quality. I'm convinced the best way to do it is with a preheat regardless of stainless steel or titanium tip

Is anyone else noticing a difference between caps?

My favourite combo for use with the skeletor is a file modded M tip with an older cap from an OG glass VC heated for 3 seconds past the click on the 1st cycle and a second or so after the click on successive cycles.
I only noticed the difference when I scorched a bowl last night after fitting a newer generation cap on the M, following what has become my normal heat up procedure.

With the Ti tip heating up quicker I'm finding a pause at the click for 2 seconds or so before carrying on heating for another second or 2 helps the heat even out a little and reduce the chances of scorching.

Another method I've been using for a more even heat and maxing out the flavour and vape production from a fresh bowl with either tip is to heat the tip to the click then put it on a magnet until it you hear the cooldown click and reheating to a second or so after the click before taking your first draw.

Given that the clicking is done by separately cut metal disks placed permanently inside the cap it isn't a surprise that there is some variability in the caps and how they behave, and they may also behave a little differently when placed on tips of different metal with different properties.

That being said, I haven't noticed any generational variability in the caps, just individual variability. But I am not quite as prolific* a customer as many out there so my testing bed is relatively small.

*Not the right word but you know what I mean. :)

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
@cybrguy first generation of caps (including the one I got with first run of Omnivap) have cylindrical part few mm longer, having so more mass

@steama I believed the same as you. Then I tryied to put in my home made induction heater the ti tip without cap and activated coil for couple of secs, ti tip got hot

Edit: I think M reacts differently because of the bigger mass mainly, acting as heat sink, but it is just guessing

Copper is not "a ferrous metal" but magnets do react to it. Don't believe me? Drop a magnet down a short piece of copper pipe. See how the copper slows it down. Or take an aluminum cookie sheet at an angle and slide a magnet on it. Then try it on a piece of wood at the same angle.
All this to prove that induction heaters work on non-ferrous metals. Doc

All great stuff!! I think much of it comes down to preference of vaping experience. I hardly "overheat" my Ti tips at all with PortSide (or with anything) other than an extra second or so on first and last heat, but I greatly prefer the convection aspect of VCs to the conduction. Seldom so much conduction that I don't enjoy it, but this is where my preferences lie. Others like different types of vapor, so different heating with induction (or where you heat with torch and how long) is bound to be a factor. All this truly a benefit IMO. You get what you want, and I get what I want, all from same device! Gotta love a little versatility.

Speaking of versatility.... my PostSide went on its maiden tailgating voyage this weekend. Worked like a champ other then having to wait in line until we all worked a good sync on who got to heat when. What's really great is that even the previously uninitiated were able to "feel" the click instead of just hearing it - which is key in noisy situations like this.

Surprisingly didn't raise much suspicion from lot neighbors or passers by. Not like many had to figure out what we were up to anyway. Throw 3 or four people into a situation like this at a ballgame with half wearing tie-dyes and some Dead on, and it's hard to be subtle!

Seen alot of posts recently on the @Pipes portside induction heater. I am on the list for a Jarhead. Any good words for that one?

Same thing, just tied to a wall outlet. Personally I thought the little extra dosh for the Portside was worth the portability. But the JarHead is exactly the same induction element but driven by a 12v power supply rather than 3x 18650's and a charging adapter.

Just finishing the last of my blueberry tonight (might still have a bit for tomorrow). I really like this strain, nice balance of laid back body buzz and euphoria. I've got Blueberry Muffin to try next :D

Hey guys, new to the induction heater idea, they look amazing! Anyone have experience with an OmniVong and any suggestions as to what set up or modifications create and ideal set up? Cheers in advance.

Had just posted this up over on Reddit. I don't have any experience with the omnivong but that shouldn't make much of a difference.

I bought a portside recently from pipes...

I think the torch is easier to perfect although once you get the depth tweaked (if needed) and the timing down...I'd say it performs easily as good as a torch, possibly better. I'll put it like this...since I've got the induction heater, I've only used a torch one time because I was out and about and just threw the dynastash in pocket.

The timing is key. When my cap clicks using the portside and a titanium tip, I count "one, one thousand, two, one thousand, three, one thousand, four" and then pull it out. With the ss M tip, I take it to "four, one thousand" or even "5". The ss tips take a bit more to heat up but IMO...torch or induction heater, the M produces more and longer vapor. I also timed my saying and when I stop on "four", it is right at about 3.5 seconds. Of course, the depth plays a role in this too. I shaved off mayyyybbeeee 1\32 from the way Pipes sent it. But it made a huge difference. Just be careful, can easily take off too much. I was getting pretty significant scorching at the tip even when tamped it down away from the cap. Now it is almost perfectly cooked throughout.

Another cool thing you can do with the induction heater is to heat it up as stated above, take a draw for a few seconds, stick it back in the heater for 1-2 secs, take another 2sec draw, put back into heater, etc. Once you get it down, and it isn't hard, you can fully extract a load very quickly and using only one cap click initially. Pretty cool stuff imo. Someone just reposted the vid recently if you look a page or two back.

I'm very comfortable with the torches, spinning the Dynavap,, etc and have no issues with them but I've really enjoyed my Portside Induction Heater.

Edit: oh one more thing....bed time hits! Not sure about you but as I'm winding down or possibly wake up and have a hard time sleeping, a quick hit or a few (lol) really help. It's so easy to grab the DV, stick it in the heater using a finger to hold it down, you can feel the click, count like I said above and then pull it out. Torch works but not near as easy as this for this particular scenario.

Let me know if you have any questions:)

My Portside landed yesterday and I have really been enjoying the preliminary testing with my second-favorite vapcap (Ti-M - M body with v5 Ti tip.)

I think that the @phattpiggie one-click method - or some variation of it - is going to be my go-to method. It is a GREAT way to kill a bowl really quickly and it brings back a certain amount of manual control to the vaping experience with a vapcap, similar to the variation you can get with torch placement but easier to achieve consistently - and you can do it one-handed!. I've never really found myself using the 'carb' on a vapcap but with the induction heater and the Ti-M in an Orbiter I found closing the 'carb' pretty useful to move a little more heat through the load right in the beginning.

I need to do some more testing - but this thing is great!!

A big thank you to @Pipes for all his hard work as well as anyone else who contributed to this project - it is really an amazing product!

to add to this, the single click method is good for a (either tip) "one, one-thousand, two," then start puffing. The difference in tips, SS or Ti, is how long you wait until you pop your vapcap in there. The SS tip takes longer to cool off and if you do the file mod to it, it will perform pretty damn close to the Ti tip with a longer cool off time. The counter arguments to the SS tip are all true.

Love my Jarhead II but I had to trade her away. The guy I gave it to loves it and it looks like I'll soon be talking to Pipes about another.
