I noticed with the bat, you can also control what kind of hit you are going to get by what direction you point the hole... I have been pointing the whole all different kinds of directions. Point downward for big hits, point up for light hits... point sideways for in between...

The aluminum bat looks dead sexy. What would sell it for me is how well it can be used with a jet lighter.
I've attempted to shoot the flame across the hole of my hc vg and I don't see how it would work.
Any other techniques concerning the bat and torch lighters?

Also: is this thing small enough to fit into downstems similar to the vaporstar?

I'm looking into buying myself a vapor genie and i was just wondering if its the type of vaporizer that you can use indoors without anyone being suspicious of smell, etc? Can you get away with using it indoors?

Yeah you can put the bat into a downstem, but unlike the vapor star you will have to hold the VG up to the downstem. It wont just sit in the down stem. You have to hold it to even create a proper seal. I would be more worried about chipping my glass than anything with this.

I bought a VG classic (unfinished wood -- not sure if it's ash or maple) at the local smoke shop & was so pleased that I sent off for the VG bat (which is even more enjoyable than I'd anticipated). The two VGs are the extent of my vaporizing experience but already am a convert & I see no reason to ever smoke anything ever again.

I am contemplating getting a handcarved VG but am torn between the teak, walnut and maple choices. I have found, especially when smoking w/o the plastic mouthpiece, that I can taste the wood. (Which isn't horrible or anything. One of the things I appreciate about the VG is its simulation/replication/appropriation of various aspects of the "smoking" experience.)

But I am wondering which of the three wood choices would "taste" best once the pipe is broken in? Maple is probably the most traditional pipewood of the three. Peak is used in shipbuilding in part because it helps metal resist rust oxidation, but is it good for a pipe? The walnut looks the coolest in the photos. I realize that it probably doesn't make more than a sliver of difference really but this does look like a forum of connoisseurship ..

start with the bic, work your way up to the jet.

Shoot the flame across the hole and suck the heat off of the flame, never bringing the flame into the hole, works like a charm, works better then the regular candle flame, and tastes better.
If you hold the VG where the hole is pointed up, in a vertical position, you then want to put the flame perpendicular to the hole, shooting horizontally above the VG opening. Inhale the excess heat given off by the flame

hi vapegal, as far as it being able to be used inside without a smell... i dont know... all vaporizers will have a smell associated with them...although its not like combusted weed, it still smells like the fresh herb, i have two different vaporizers... the iolite and the vaporgenie... the vaporgenie, since i control the heat with the lighter, has the potential to get hotter, therefore, (if im not careful) could start to ignite...which of course is a bigger smell... the iolite i believe is the ultimate in stealth vaporizers, because it looks like a walkie talkie, but it also doesnt get as hot, therefore it has a lighter vapor...(both in appearance and smell)...but it takes longer to vape it... (up to 30 minutes sometimes..) but to answer your question... yes, you could use it indoors if you were able to control the airflow thru your home...ie. turn on the house fan if you have Air conditioning, close all the doors in your room and just open a window...it will pressurize the room and cause the air to only flow one way (out the window) so you could smoke right by the window and really reduce the smell into the house... (this method only works, as long as the intake to the air conditioner is not located in the same room... otherwise you are going to fog the house with the smell...) anyway, i dont know if that was helpful or not... but good luck!:) and Pattern, yes, you could use the jet lighter on the bat, but, i think it gets the metal too hot and its difficult to get the cherry spot with the flame...i mean it is possible i guess, but it gets the bat pretty hot, pretty quick... i prefer jet lighters... but with the bat, i believe ideally you would want a candle flame... it just works better (i have a busted jet lighter with a lazy blue flame on it that i find works better than the yellow flame... if you have the ability to get a soft blue flame, go with that...its hotter and works fantastic....i havent been able to buy a new lighter that does that yet...they either have a yellow flame or jet flame....and i cant figure out how to modify a new jet flame to go soft...i tried pulling the nozzle off, impeding the air flow, etc... but, still no luck...anyway, hope this helps

thats a patent waiting to happen right there :D haha i say invest in that niche market!

anyways, i finally ordered my aluminum vaporgenie bat - cant wait as it will be my first ever vape so looking forward to the difference between smoke and vapor!
i read another post in this forum about holding the intake hole at different positions (upwards, downwards and horizontally) causing different vapor size and taste. just wondering what is the difference in the high associated with big, heavy hits or lighter, controlled hits with the vg alu bat?

and any other VG enthusiast tips for using the alu bat?

I believe the question was in regards to using the vaporbat mouth piece in the down stem of a bong. Which I would not recommend. If you want to use the bat with a bong. Use it in the way shown on page 44. Using the filter only screwed into a bowl that goes into a bong.
Holding the Bat mouthpiece up to the bong requires that you hold it there by hand, as opposed to the setup discussed on page 44.
It is more than likely that the mouthpiece of the bat will chip the glass of your bong/downstem.

right on andreisnt...congratulations... vaporizing is a different high than smoking...its cleaner and you get more distinct results... that said, its also a little lighter feeling...dont get me wrong, you will be zonked, but its a different high.... the deal with the bat hole is just how much heat its catching from the lighter... (thus the niceness of the blue flame lighter which i wish i could figure how to market it because it is ideal...) just make sure you dont over fill the bowl...just go with it about 1/2 to 3/4 full and give it a gentle tap to set it and keep it off the ceramic disc...(if it hits the disc, theres a chance it will ignite it...) i do 5-6 second draws on the flame with the hole at a 45 degree angle toward the ground but with a bic, i think you need to draw a little longer...i then withdraw the heat for a second or two and keep drawing...this give me an idea where the disc is at in its heat retention... and brings the herb up to temp without burning it....then i reapply the heat for another 5-6 seconds... by the third application of heat in this manner im usually getting monster vapor... of course a lot depends on how well did you grind your herb up (more surface area the better) how loose is the bowl for air flow, how good is your herb, etc...as far as a light vape vs heavy vape...its similar to taking a small hit with a bowl vs a monster hit...the nice thing is either one is a clearer high...you dont feel so"muddled"...well...at least thats how it feels to me... anyway, congrats on the bat purchase... be patient, especially if you are new to vaping...although it is a relatively fast learning curve with the bat, there is one... so again...be patient and welcome.:)

I just ordered the spiral hand crafted vaporgenie.

I wanted to know the best ways to hit this without looking through all 46 pages.. I'm sorry. : (
I basically looked through the first pages to make sure it got good reviews.

Also, do you stir the bud between hits? Such as:

Take hit
Remove ceramic unit
Stir
Take another hit
Repeat?

DropItOff:
Pack your VG bowl about 3/4 of the way full (you don't want any of it to touch the ceramic filter) and very loosely packed for airflow. Screw the top on and light your lighter (I recommend lighting it with the right side of your thumb if you're right handed..so when you put the flame to the pipe, your thumb is underneath the flame. Next, start inhaling consistently and put your flame up to the metal ring in the top of your pipe. Don't let the flame touch the ceramic filter inside, but let it dip inside the metal ring a tiny, tiny bit. It will take a few bowls to learn the right mixture of airflow and flame application, but just be patient and you will get the hang of it.

Between hits I usually tap the pipe on my palm to shake it up a bit, then take off the top just to check the color. When you're starting out, it's good to check the color of the herb after each hit to see how you're doing.

When taking your first hit, the filter will be cold so there's a nice little technique someone posted here that helps: Start your hit with the flame applied, but after 3-5 seconds, exhale through your nose and begin a new hit. Inhale some extra air through your nose if you need to, but this 3-5 second pre-heat will really help you get a better hit. After this first time, the filter will be warmed up and you don't need to do that, but it will still help.

If anyone has a different technique or thinks I do something weird, feel free to critique my methods

I'd say if you want to get a big cloud of vapor quickly, and don't care as much about stealth, get a VG. If you want stealth, and wanna get totally baked with a little less visible vapor. Check out the Magic Flight Launch Box.

With all the time I've spent with the Genie thus far, my best advice is don't follow any advice. Just pay a very acute level of attention to how you hit it in the beginning. My slow hit may be someone else's fast hit. The bottom line in using the vapor genie is being able to detect the vapor; a kind of jump in the heat in your mouth. If you're hitting it, slowly?, enough then you'll be able to feel the vapor start to stream out of the stem.

It takes time and a lot of effort to work these vapes to the point where it's second nature, but you won't realize the hassle too much along the way if you get into the ritual of learning to hit a new piece. I had a vaporstar for 6 months before I had a light-bulb moment with it. Good luck with yours, some get the technique down pat in a bowl or two. Just make sure to enjoy the pipe, as that's what it's all really about :)

Is it very easy to combust with a VG? Or do the pipe/bat always vaporize and do it as well as the Magic Flight Launch Box does?

People have written about how the VG pipe/bat seems to eat up lighters, does it take a lot of lighter fluid to vape with it?

You may find it easier to gauge temperature by raising your tongue, so that the the underside is in the vapor path. The underside is far more sensitive to heat as opposed to the back of the throat. Once it get very warm, its time to take the flame away and hit quickly. Give it a try.

Just got my VG in the mail today. At first glance ... wtf ? i paid 65 bones for this piece of stick ?

I'm high, typing my thought right now before i forget later. Pretty sure I got the technique down packed. Let flame in gently 1/8" inch in below the rim the limit. Pipe tilted down so the mouthpiece is on the roof of my mouth. Suck slowly and consistently. Blow out VAPOR !! Sweet !! I got mad skillz. I counted 6 tokes .. till its golden green. Not sure if i should continue or not i took the stuff out and loaded another bowl. Bam !! went through that one in a jiffy. Onto the next one !! High doesnt seem to hit me yet ... im thinking fml, i thought a vap was suppose to conserve weeed. i load my third bowl and realize i recognize this taste. The vap brings me a flashback, this is just like smokeing from a shisha ppie. wtf ? i have a shisha pipe, why did i buy a vap for ? then i remembered i bought it for its portability. oooh ya. flash back over. wtf im still holding VG ? BAM !! ITS OVERS ! BITCH CREEPED UP ON ME !!

So ya ! thats what happened. feeling pretty good now. Sweet.
CHEERS! Just registered here, I've had my VG for 3 weeks and I had a similar experience. I couldn't play my favorite stoner game, Trackmania, for a week till I got used to the high. So I got my tax refund Monday and ordered Da Buddha!!! :-) That's how I wound up at FC, research.

As far as lighters go, I love a Bic, but I also got a nice Zippo candle lighter ($10) that worked great until first refill. Then it developed an unsteady flame height, rendering it useless for the VG. I'll stick with the Bics. 5 packs are pretty cheap at Dollar General or Walmart, plus my many smoker friends are always giving me their Bics for some reason... :-P I've been on the e-cig since November 20th, Joye 510 FTW!

Today I'm outta weed, but thanks to reading this thread I popped out my VG screen and dug the gold out from beneath. Put that stuff on top of some already-vaped weed and KAPOW! Stoned again...

Vape ON!
