I know you are feeling under the weather and hope you are getting better!

Have you tried your Tubo Evic with our TopHat system? I've been pumping unground buds into our short and medium stems and really loving the Tubo on Cruise. I don't see a reason to use it otherwise, if I want to push a button, then I'll grabba Milaana.
Wow I'm really liking the look of these, trying to figure out what to order now. I see the medium slim/screenless stem is out of stock. Have you used the tubo with a short screenless stem? Just wondering how harsh the vapor would be or if I should wait for the medium to get back in stock. I do also want the 14/18 adapter that's out of stock...

Is this vape available online? I've browsed through the thread and jumped pages, searched google, but for some reason I can't locate where to purchase.

In ten words or less compare it to a mighty and/or Milaana

There is no website yet, in the works, we had to contact FJ directly to order. Also we can't really do a direct comparison here (try searching), but if you want to think of it as a Milaana and Mighty combined that might make sense for you?

I think there are alternative stems that are preferable to the ones that came with it. But if you choose a short stem and use it with the whip I don't think you'll have a problem. I use the whip that came with mine with my MVT and milaana.

Yay @Krahl!! glad it was just your batteries.

I pack about .1-.15 in the glass joint.

I stick the joint end of the stem in my grinder and then take a soft pull to pack it. It's ok if a little sticks out, but not too much. Then I slap one of the rimmed-lid thing on there, so nothing can fall down into the female joint of the tubo. I don't necessarily tamp... I just put the lid over the joint and that kinda serves to pack it, but it's not too tight, but also not loose.

I have cruise set for 90s and usually start pulling after like 10s have gone by if I'm starting from completely cold.

First hit or two will be wispy but flavorful as the glass joint of the stem gets fully warmed up. Once everything is all warmed up, you don't really need instructions. Kinda just off to the races. The thing pours out vapor.

I usually do 2 90s cruises per load, but the second is fairly diminished if the first cruise was above 370f, even though I'm raising the temp probably 10f if I'm bothering to do another cruise.

Other people pack differently but it depends on your desired dosage and stuff. Check @Vape Donkey 650 s post to see how you would use a smaller amount at lower temps.

Not sure how @stickstones does his unground buds but I may have to try this soon as well!

cheers and hope you love your tubo as much as I love mine

Info was 1 page back at post # 1373: @stickstones :

Using whole nuggets is a different ride that takes some adjusting to. Here's some tips...

- Use the Tubo bowl as intended. When you put a nug in the end of the stem like that it gets too close to the heat source and scorches. Putting it back deeper in the bowl with the elbow screen in place will get you a more even cook.
- I still like to stir the nugs! The Tubo is perfect for this with the included stir stick. Use it to break up the bud after a few hits. Sometimes I'll pull the nugget out and flip it over if it's still got some moisture in it. But basically you want to break it down as you go.
- Breaking it down will homogenize the session a little. What I like to do is take a few hits without a stir, then pull that nugget out, crumble it up and put it back in. But get ready...the next two hits are intense!
- So you still stir/break it up, but this way all the terps and triches are in your bowl instead of left behind in a grinder
- Expectations: - wispy and tastier at first, getting stronger after breaking it up a bit or crumbling it. The session will last longer and have more of a flat curve, as opposed to a ground load that starts hitting after the first half pull but only lasts a few more hits.

It's not for everyone, but I can't go back!

I was lucky enough to get my flower pot, auber 300, and tubo (and flam) on the same day.

I've read about a couple of different ways to pack the stem. Does anyone have photos? The long bent mouthpiece would be ideal.

heyhey!

@funkyjunky do you think it's ok to blow this high-pressure gas to clear out some of the junk in my tubo, or do you think that may damage it?
yes i think its ok. cant imagine it getting damaged by doing so.
i often dont use the screen and just tamp it a bit into the ground glass. some crumbs falls out when i do knock on the sides of the heater when upside down sometimes. my joint is not dirty or anything.

just got back from a small vacation and was really relaxed at first but then got super busy with coding:

firmware update! :D

i have been testing with a few individuals a version of cruise that i want to call eco-cruise mode that tries to safe energy in cruise mode.
i started by lowering the heater temperature to 130degC when watts dropped below a certain threshold in cruise. also when watts increased at this idle temp i let the firmware switch back to original desired temperature.
essentially i now have simulated a draw sensor and it is working really well. the behavior is similar to on demand mode in that it needs a few additional seconds to get back on temperature but hands free like cruise while theoretically saving some energy.

while testing it became apparent that, while it works very well, something inbetween might be better for certain situation.
this new beta-firmware i am introducing today has now a new parameter that can be set in 'menu>vaping>Ecolevel'.

set ecolevel to:
0: no eco-mode, this is identical with the original cruise mode. heater heats to desired temperature and stays there all the time.
1: the heater temperature is lowered some (linear relation ship of desired temp) when no draw is detected.
2: the heater temperature is lowered more than in eco level 1 when no draw is detected.
3: the heater temperature is always lowered to 135degC when no draw is detected.

in levels 1 and 2 the temperature is lowered between 10 to 60degC depending on desired temperature, i could make a graph if interest is here.
i might have to adjust the formulas and trigger points slightly in the future to improve the draw sensing but i think for now we can have a big testing party! :D

I pack the stems exactly how I'd pack a stem for a log vape or Milaana or my vapcap.

Put the loading end in my grinder, and suck herb up like I'm using my stem as a straw.

If my dang internal screen wasn't weird from when i dropped it, I'd be less inclined to use the caps.

Nice base ya got there, funky. Perhaps you showed it off before, first I have seen it. Its got the tubo logo on it so you must have made it.
I think his partner makes them- same partner who makes the wonderful whips. I think they are available to order.
When the store opens I think there will be lpts of interesting things.

Also, just wanted to point out the obvious that the eco-cruise setting works best after the device is warmed up.

It needlessly (well... not needlessly...that's what it's programmed to do...)fluctuates between "resting" temp and cruise temp when you're first getting it primed, so I'd wait until after your first cruise to activate the eco mode... otherwise you will be throwing lots of "low battery" as it rapidly jumps between those 2 temps.

At least this was my experience during the testing of this firmware... Not sure how it is now, since I've been out of testing materials since yesterday.

Cheers and enjoy cruising

@muunch, I don't know whether or not there was any change to the firmware after you tested it, but I updated to the Eco firmware this evening and it seems to work just fine. That's my entirely subjective opinion, of course.

As to the "low battery" message, I haven't seen that yet (the battery was freshly charged though), but the Cruise bar did disappear a couple of times. The latter isn't really a big deal, but I'd still like to see it go away because it's kind of annoying. As I've said before though, the Tubo works too well to let this influence me to use another device.

I tried Eco level 1, cruising at 360F, with a 10-second warmup, and got nice flavor on the first draw, with wispy vapor on the second draw. For the next two draws I set Eco to 2, and it was pumping out as much vapor as I'd want.

At this point, the Mt. Hood Magic was doing its thing, so I realized I'd better pull out some AC/DC that I've been sitting on, particularly since I've been on a T-break for about a week.

After allowing the Tubo to cool, I loaded a stem with the AC/DC. Again 360F, Eco level 2 this time, 10 second warmup, I got really good taste and felt my lungs expanding, even though I didn't expel much visible vapor. On the second draw, I already had tremendous vapor volume. The difference between the two stems (heavy vapor on 3rd draw, versus heavy vapor on 2nd draw), may be because the AC/DC was fresher than the Mt. Hood, or perhaps there was some residual heat remaining from the first stem, but whatever the reason, I was impressed. To me, it seems it's working just as well as the previous firmware.

I haven't used Eco enough to comment on the intended increase in battery life. But, tracking that's not gonna happen anyway, because I find it difficult to use the Tubo, and still be capable of, or interested in, recording statistics. Fuckstatistics, I say!

@little maggie, in a nutshell, it drops the temperature to a lower level when you're not drawing on the Tubo, and quickly ramps back up to your cruise temperature when you begin to draw again. In theory this extends battery life, as it's running at lower wattage than the previous firmware did between draws. To me, it seems this also moves the Tubo closer to being a 100% on-demand vaporizer.

So, the stem has a built in upper screen and you can cap if with a screen on the bottom if you prefer?

Placed my order. I figured I needed a new toy to play with.

My first go I filled a long bent stem with hand torn flower, put in the battery, turned it on, hit fire twice, and got huge tasty clouds with zero technique and attention. So, so nice.

My first go I did 450, too hot for me and maybe scorched towards the end. For some reason I tried the same thing again with a whip, not too hot anymore but I still wanted to go lower. Decided to try the water adapter and dropped the temp to 440. Much nicer, but I was also going through water. I'm pretty sure I tried a microdose after that, but I'm not 100% sure. By then I was pretty far gone and *really* spacey. I know I went through 2 full batteries in cruise mode. The tubo is just so damn easy.

@funkyjunky I changed 2 of the settings on the vape to match those in the directions, should I switch them back or am I good? I kept track of what I changed and the old values. I think it was boost and I were 50 higher than in the directions.

It's definitely a good choice if you like to tinker around and play with stuff.
At the same time you don't have to but for me it was mandatory :D

My Tubo arrived Wednesday and it performs well ;)
I'm wondering why I don't get visible Vapor though, is it because I load not enough material for that to happen or does it depend on material?

Anyways glad it's at my service finally :science:

I have found that I don't get much visible vapor through my water piece. But I think it's because it has no resistance and I can draw to fast. I definitely get vapor as I see it, just can't white wall it like I can with underdog, but can definitely feel the effects and all my stuff is all used up.
