Planetvape.ca have just sent me an e-mail making their SOLO 2 offer even better:
#
Thanks for your interest in the awesome new Solo 2. Yes, we have updated the code to include a few more items.

Solo 2 for 249.95 (40.00 savings)
Free Genuine SpaceCase Titanium Grinder (32.95 value)
Free Arizer 14mm Water GonG Adapter (14.95 value)
Free Arizer 18mm Water GonG Adapter (14.95 value)
Free Solo Glass Stem Screen Pack (4.27 value)
Free Arizer Silicone Stem Caps Pack (4.95 value)
Free Expedited Shipping in Canada and USA (19.97 value)

For only 249.95 Canadian / 184.97 USD you get the newest Solo 2 and 92.00+ of free bonus items.

The code is pvsolo2, and that's an awesome deal.

The grinder is a small 2 piece. I'd suggest the 10 dollar upgrade to medium, though you probably want a 4 piece to achieve a coarser grind for the Solo II.

Finally my Solo II is here. And what a relief that it is not broken, but pressing the center button alone is not enough to switch it on. (Did not read the manual). You also have to press the up button. Well, as long at it works with one thumb that is fine with me. The two button press did not prevent it from being turned on when I put it in the supplied case. I'll make sure that the display faces the front the next time I use the case.

Learned something new from the manual: metal screens make vapor harsh and diminish the flavors. Is that so? I did not know. Maybe I'll try again without a screen?

To turn it on press the center and the top outer ring at the same time. The center button is your menu. If you want to turn off before your sessions is over press the center and the bottom outer ring.
I've been just using the Solo 2 stem with no screen. The flavor is amazing.

Actually, the center and top together will also shut it off. As will up and down together. For a couple of seconds, of course. At least mine does.......

To me it makes sense to have it harder to accidentally turn on than off. In practice 'drunkenly' mashing down on the switch area with a heavy thumb seems to turn it off. No need to be all that precise, just persistent (hold for a few seconds).

Your right! I could turn it off and on with the top ring and center. I can turn mine off using the center and bottom ring too. We're learning more and more. Maybe I need to reread my directions. Thanks for the correction @OF

It is hard seeing the screen with sunglasses on. I've been using my unit outside a lot now.

Well I just press and hold the center button to turn my Solo 2 off.

I watched the temp go down after I let it heat up to see how accurate it was. When the temp showed 100 I tried touching the heater. Still HOT. Guess the cooldown temps aren't completely accurate :hmm: Don't think 100 would be pretty damn hot, right?

You should keep in mind that the temperature indicated/reported is probably pretty accurate for the place the sensor is.......which is probably not the cup? Good regulation of the load temperature (what we're really after) doesn't depend on the precision of this as much as the stability.

I think some of the excitement about 'amazingly fast heat up time' is also going on here? The indication is the sensor is happy but no vapor happening yet? There's a delay with having to heat the glass first before it can in turn heat the load which is easy to 'see' when you swap in a cold stem in a hot Solo. I've nothing in the way of measurements but I have a feeling that the normal heat up is longer still?

In Solo I much of this might be masked since the oven is heating slower allowing more heat to transfer before it indicates 'at temperature'? Something isn't quite making sense since the ovens are basically the same so unless the battery is supplying many times more power it can't really be much faster where it counts?

Your observation supports this I think, the sensor is most likely cooled to 100 or so but is still being heated by the hotter cup which retains a lot of heat (and therefore cools slowly)?

Eventually I will have two units I hope (or so is the plan) so I can do some A/B tests (say cold start and cold stem in hot Solo race with the same conditions otherwise) as well as some serious measurements trying to sort out the power management going on.

Fun stuff, for sure. Thanks for passing on the observation, food for thought indeed.

The heatup time is slower with the stem inserted due to heat transferring to the glass I assume? I'll get an exact time measurement of that tonight with vs without stem.

I normally get pretty quick wisp of vapor when I'm puffing it like a cigar right after inserting a cold stem into an at temp unit. I'll try to also time that ... how long after inserting cold stem it takes to see first sign of vapor while puffing on it. Just .. to have I guess.

Even if you can't figure out how to put the pieces of a puzzle together, it's nice knowing they're all there if you ever wish to solve it.

Yep. When you put the temp down to 100 it cuts the power off till it drops to 100. Off to the minors (vaporants) with my astounding new info:tup: Most likely will find some of you there? I like the banishedhacker myself:D

Damn I want another guitar pedal but I want a solo II as well. Must not give in to VAS...

Bad attitude, Bro, you must resist GPAS with all your will........

Seeking My Shangri-La
I received my replacement Solo 2 and charger about an hour ago with two extra stems for my trouble. Perhaps I should send them to @ataxian? :) Thanks, Arizer. It's plugged in now for it's initial 5 hour + charge as per @OF's advice.

I look forward to rejoining the ranks of happy Solo 2 owners.

Now charge, Baby, CHARGE!!!
