Duff's wax pen choice

How should I vape my wax?

I'm about to get my second batch of concentrate ever.

The first batch was some lovely g13 shatter that I got on a visit to Colorado that I ran through a brand new Dr. Dabber.

Prior to my return flight, I packed up the remaining shatter and the Dr Dabber in a box, wrote "party in a box" on it and left it on a bench outside my hotel.

So I am penless.

I'll eventually get a nectar collector but until then, should I get something more discrete like a pen?
If a pen, which one?
Or should I just use my current dry herb lineup to vape the wax?

Oh man that's a complex conundrum.

Does your current line up offer you the capability to achieve your goal?

I know you rock the VapCap which can be used to consume wax but are you wanting to blend in to society and hit on the move or is ducking out the way to heat ok for your needs?

I think you have a Grasshopper as well which can vape wax's on the move in a discreet fashion. Are you cool (ironic) with hitting that beast natively and with the additional cleaning it will require?

I think this post suggests not :brow:

So I'm gonna say go for either a pen if you want an off the shelf easy convenient gadget to play with.

Or

A regulated box mod with wax atty like the DevineTribe's if you have cash to play with.

I've read a few opinions from members I trust that the latest Puffco's are quite good.

I personally like the glass mouth piece and functional design of the Hypno's Zero.

I've also been reading the SOrb and DT threads and feel like the DT is edging out in front.

Not sure I've been at all helpful really.

Damn I wish I knew where that bench was bro! That's pretty cool, I hope the universe worked her magic and somebody who would be stoked on in found it.

I'm a noob to concentrates as well. I bought the Linx Ares and it works really well for me. This is my first pen though so I have no reference to compare to. I like it though. I hear a lot of great things about the Orb so when it's available again I think I'm going to buy it. Haven't checked the site in a few weeks but last time they were all on back order.

Good luck!

For reference my current lineup is:
Tubo
Milaana
SBJ
VC
Crafty
GH

I am hesitant to try in all except the Crafty, but perhaps I'm just a pansy. GH is definitely out since mine seems to be a finicky one.

I've been reading up on the other threads too @GreenHopper and there does seen to be a lot of love for the Divine Tribe.
I already have a mod so I like the idea of just the atomizer but the stealth of some of those pens is amazing.

I hope the universe worked her magic and somebody who would be stoked on in found it.
I hope so too. I put it on a bench in the smoking area FWIW.

This is an expensive hobby @Diggy Smalls. I'm in line for an upcoming vape that will indeed deplete resources even further. Ugh. I've really got to sell some.

Thanks for the thoughts so far and keep them coming.

Sorry to hear your having issues with the hopper.

Argh, the hardest bit of all of this is VAS. I want all the vapes! For reasons..... all them perfectly reasonable from my VAS twisted perspective.

There is nothing more stealthy than a pen, this is so true. They are damn convenient as well.

I think start with the pen and then you can always get the DT atty to play with at a later date.

Didn't mean to sound like it wasn't working. It's working pretty well.

Not at all man, I get ya. I went away recently on a vacation and took my vapcap rather than the grasshopper. Not because there is anything wrong with my GH but when I'm stuck with the choice I just know my Vapcap M isn't going to have any issues.

It's about confidence, if you are going to be out you want something 100% because you probably won't have a backup on you.

Another tick in the box for the Pen option, it's designed to be used out and about no fuss, no issues, easy to load just press and pull. Fits in a pocket, a shirt pocket ;)

Our VAS perspective. We appear to be all in the same boat.

Yep, it appears we are all suffering from having a lot of fun, totally spoilt for choice and loving the journey :D.

I vote you get some hemp fiber or ss mesh wick, and use that with concentrates in all of the vapes you have now. Just take a dollop, fold or melt it in and you are good to go.

No pen will do better considering a lot of your options are already perfect.

A proper dab rig however... There is always room for that :)

I use a Vapcap. For everything. Wax, crumble, shatter, Orson, hash and flower. The has and flower are used with the conventional open chamber with a hemp filter screen sandwich.

But for the concentrates here's my set up.
I started with a S&B concentrate pad, a pair of flat nosed pliers, sharp side cutters and of course my beloved Omnivap.
SM9IoMV.jpg

I compressed the sides of the disk shaped pad until it became a cylinder shape with the diameter of the ti tip herb chamber.
C0qLWKg.jpg

The cylinder ended up being about twice as long as the chamber is deep. So I cut it in half.
C2FyLh1.jpg

One pad is stuffed into the chamber and the other is put away for another day.
1RcYLBo.jpg

Top the pad with the concentrate of choice - here we have Girl Scout Cookie wax - and you have yourself set up in tokes for a good long while.

I find this super convenient. I'll take my Omni out while I work around outside. Every couple of hours I heat the Omni just past the click.

The concentrate lasts all day long. One toke at a time. An all day sucker. It's fantastic!

I have had great luck with concentrates in the vapcap. The ability to heat past the click when using concentrates is great, since there is very little risk of combustion. This also means it's easier to take FAT rips on the first hit, than when using bud. I sometimes don't notice the flavor of oil as much as I would in a clean pen, but then I also don't get the flavor degradation that you get in a pen. No claim to worry about is the best part.

@duff, looking at your list of vapes, I seriously think the hemp wick will work extremely well in all of your vapes with perhaps the Crafty being last on your list, but still just fine as an option. I bet it would hit hardest in the SBJ/Milaana/tubo/GH and session best in the vapcap and Crafty.

I put on my big boy pants tonight thanks to a seasoned concentrate pro.

Since I didn't have any hemp yet, I made do with weed/live resin sandwiches and it was pretty spectacular.

I'll need to keep plugging away :)but I was relieved that that was such an easy option.

I am anxious to try the oil pads and hemp fiber. I'd love to be able to taste just the concentrate because I really haven't been exposed to it enough.

Encouraging night though thanks to you folks.

Where have all of you been all of my life?
I fucking love this place.

@seaofgreens (or anyone) I'm a noob on this stuff, how do you load the hemp wick?

You can take a dab and just fold it into a tiny pinch of fiber, load it as you would flower, and you should be good to go.

Or take a dab onto a dabber, and heat the tool up a bit so that it melts onto the fiber. (What I have mostly been doing with rosin scrapings lately.)

Or take your concentrate, add a few drops of alcohol, wick it up and let it dry for a bit to evenly spread it through the fibers. (Thanks to @Alan for this idea, which I read about here but haven't tried yet: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/vaping-with-cotton.9892/page-8#post-480835

Looks interesting though :)

Just so Dab HAppy!
I did not have a very good experience with the Source Orb4 signature kit I got about six months ago but the concept/design of their quartz nail atomizer which my kit did not come with sounds like it would be great on top of a Temp Controlled box mod. @AVENTUS has just recently, like yesterday mentioned the great flavor of the quartz nail on the slim4 battery if your trying to avoid box mods. He is a flavor chaser so you know it would be one of the best ways to taste your concentrates.

I voted for the Puffco Plus because its a very clean all in one package and is the only pen with the internal dabber which really does become helpful for me. The 3 temp settings on the standard Puffco Plus battery are a little high for flavor chasing so a box mod battery is needed. With a box mod this one is hard to beat IME because the great flavor and ease of use and ease of cleaning between sessions.

If your not going to use concentrates all that much then I honestly would stick with my weed vapes. Concentrate pens can make you desire that highly enriched terpene profile which I find hard to get from most flower vapes and once you convert yourself it can be a little sad how quick those flower vapes will collect dust.

Jeez @Bdubbdiblets, we've got nearly identical line-ups.

Just tried @Squiby's VC/S&B method and can confirm it works! :brow:

Lovely with my morning joe. Taste was wonderful and I could only taste the concentrate.

I am amazed at the different flavor profile of concentrates and looking forward to being more verse in that universe.
The taste through an Auber 200/incycler combo that I got to try last night really blew my mind. I'll need to stop by his place more often. :worms:

Thanks for that great link @seaofgreens. I hadn't seen that thread and it is exactly what I'm looking for.

I voted for the Divine Trive V3. You currently line up of vapes is definitely sufficient to get some good concentrate sessions. But if you want to start adding them to your regular rotation then I feel it's better to get a device that's dedicated to concentrates. Just my personal preference.

I have both the Source Orb 4 and the Divine Tribe V3 and I prefer the performance of the Divine. It doesn't blow the Source out of the water by any means, but DT is the one I reach for.

I think Source offers some pretty good quality atomizers/kits, I've had good experiences with them.. They have really good warranty and customer service..

And the Source line is much more durable than the ceramic DT; Source is what I take with me adventuring or camping.

But for day to day use I think I prefer the hits the DT gives. Just can't beat that low temp flavour/performance, large surface area heater makes a big difference I think.

I see from your most recent post you tried the Auber 200? I know it's not the topic of this thread so forgive me for meandering.. But I received an Auber RDK-200 just a few weeks ago! I ordered a different controller/kit as well to compare. The Auber controller is pretty awesome at holding temps. I was really surprised as how well it performs for the price! Definitely a good introductory e-nail kit, imo.

I don't know much about enails just starting into this world.. But Auber seems like a great place to start. Got everything I need for under 200, with fast shipping, and it works as good as the other kit I paid much more for. Controller seems to be a standard pinout so I can use the other companies coil in the Auber too! Now I have a Twax Flowerpot on the way to turn my Enail into a vaporizer/concentrate double decker machine.:D

I've been eyeing that Twax for about a year now @Prolusio just in case I ever got concentrate on a regular basis.

It looks like your setup will be wonderful and I'm coming over!

I have zero experience but the Auber sat quietly in the background and stayed steady the entire time. It just worked.

I am definitely leaning towards getting a concentrate specific device too but am relieved that I don't have to run out and buy one today.

The DT, Puffco and Source Slim have my interest. One will soon have my money!

@duff, I'm a big fan of organic cotton/degummed hemp fiber. I made a tutorial in the E-Nano thread:
That sounds about right. I make the fiber into a thin, flat disk first:

Z9pwQRl.jpg

Then I put a small amount of concentrate in the center, approximately one to two grains of rice, I would say this is roughly two grains:

moFL7Bd.jpg

I wrap it up, and then if any concentrate is showing I add a little bit of fiber:

I may have used a little more cotton than necessary this time, and I wanted to leave a little concentrate visible at first for illustration purposes. Basically you just need enough cotton to fully cover the concentrate. If you use too much it cam block airflow, but you can always tear some off in that case.

Once it's ready it goes into my stem and gets vaped. I like temps 7-7.5 depending on whether I'm going for better flavor or bigger hits. Sometimes I start at 7 for the first couple of hits, and then bump it up to 7.5 to finish it quickly.

I use cotton and hemp with my E-Nano and Grasshopper. I use the concentrate pad that @Squiby demonstrated with my VapCaps, I have a dedicated Gen3 tip. @herbivore21 taught me the method originally. I also use uncut Mighty/Crafty pads in my OG Sticky Brick, you have to compress them slightly to fit in the Junior.

I recently got a Boundless CF-710, it's basically an electronic nectar collector. It works great but isn't very efficient, it is much closer to a dab effects-wise than using cotton/hemp/SS mesh. I don't have much experience with pens or mods but from all accounts it seems the 710 is the closest thing there is to a portable nail out there right now. The ease of use can't be beat!

The Linx Hypnos Zero is also a nice stealthy, low maintenance pen that has really good reviews as far as flavor goes. I might have to pick one of those up before too long.

If you're going to pick up a dedicated unit I suggest contacting Puffitup with any concerns and they will help you get the best pen for your needs at the best price possible.

Well my buddies loved the concentrate in the VC with the pad. During the hockey game, they kept reaching for it and it lasted many hits.

I worked on my porch all weekend and had @Squiby's all day sucker! Got many hits throughout the day and it fell weird almost ignoring the click.

Today I stopped by a local vape shop and saw this for $10 so I got it.
I2zrcAq.jpg

I believe it is the same atomizer @Abysmal Vapor mentioned here. I got snookered but they were right there in front of me.
I had to crank it to 55 watts to see any melting and get fairly light hits.

Thanks for going down this path with me. I need it!

WORD !!!!!

UberLow temp, live resin hits, taste like breathing in air from a hot growroom!

Can't beat it!

I am big into overly terpy concentrates, and super low temps, and I absolutely insist on sealed atomizer floors so if I want to use clear or distillate, no leaks thru bottom airflow holes.

Hence my ranking of portable concentrate devices as such:

1. Source Orb4
2. Source Slim4
3. Linx Hypnos Zero
4. Modified Puffco Plus
5. Kandypens Elite (despite epoxy concerns it does taste really great)

You got me wanting to try the Source xl nails when they come out. They sell nails for the xl but their just the same size as far as I know but @SOURCEvapes mentioned deeper larger nails are coming out this summer! One thing I will deeply miss whenever I retire my Puffco Plus is the dab tool. Its been on my mind already, so tonight I tried one of my spare darts in the SourceOrb4. If you take off the Silicone grommet, the dart will slide up into the mouthpiece with no problem and it kinda locks in. It has movement tolerances but it wont just fall out on its own. I didn't actually try to use it cause I basically destroyed all my Source attys so I only test fitted. You should give it a try if you still have your Puffco Plus or any darts.
