@almost there it's Padauk, this is from the same piece of wood.

Had a little 'Ebony' toothpick case turn up, bought in the hope it would be okay for a job or two.
No idea of the internal diameter but took a guess with the aid of a scale rule.
Looks like a lipstick, I knew it'd be a bit short but trying to find just the brass parts is a nightmare.
CSKPOlk.jpg

I was going to take the wood off both ends but @Ruta suggested a lighter wood for a bit of contrast.
Just turned and no sanding or polishing, Lemonwood.

I've got some other tubes to look into, I've had the parts but need a couple of bigger blanks to make them work.
The second idea comes from the chillum ideas I had ages ago.
This time the 'Ebony' end was changed for some Teak. The actual stem this idea is for is longer so it'll proportion a bit better.
hTsX9GZ.jpg

As ever it needs a bit more looking at, but the idea works.

My wood chisel is in need of a sharpen after turning the brass down as well.

flotntoke

thoroughly vaped
As a reminder to myself I took a picture of what some of the stuff I've done looks like all Ti ansd SS'd up, one or two hours went into this lot.
Half way thru this list and it's a nice sight seeing less black, blue and red on my white board.

All being well this Saturday will follow the path of the last few and I'll get to try out an idea which I've had in mind for a while.

Have a great weekend.

Not that we needed another post on this, but OMG!!!!! All so lovely! Your work is truly stunning @phattpiggie !

:mmmm:

Must get one of your beautiful stems soon!

Ah that first one is mine. Looks so much better in person. I have used it extensively and is def one of my favorite stems. In the sunlight the color just pops, but I try and keep it out of direct light.
Those tube designs are brilliant and beautiful. I really like the idea of having the tube as the bottom half of the stem. Might have to get back on the list again for one of those.

The little case turned out nice and I'd considered putting magnets on one end of it and on the chillum cap.
They probably wouldn't be strong enough to remove the cap but would hold on to it when it's hot.
If you used one strong enough to pull the cap off then it could pull it off inside the lid/case which would be a pain to get out again.
The dimensions on the chillum need a look at again to get better proportions.
The brass either needs to be turned down or another piece making, which with my wood lathe I just cannot do.
@Winegums you up for some kind of collaboration type gig??
I've got a couple of ideas which won't get done until I've got a metal lathe which isn't going to happen any time soon.

Bit of a slow week as far as turning is concerned, not really been in the right mindset given the earlier events.
That and my not so little one is here for a long weekend. I'll have a rant elsewhere about it all.

Got a load of stuff done in the garden so it's all set for summer, greenhouse is up and running just a big raised bed which needs building. Gotta keep Mrs.PP. happy.

Got the Twisted Telescopic Blackwood nearly done, just a final sand to do. There's always a final sand when I've taken a file to Blackwood.
With out the tip and cap it's 80mm closed up
0KBvlh4.jpg

I've managed to add another 30mm to the length

Got some Snakewood which I hope keeps the pattern as nicely as it shows on the blank flats, will have to be careful as the stuff I've read says it may split. Three blanks as a just in case, and for a play with after I've done the first one.

Also had a chance while the weather was good to get some wood prep'd and turned, Cocobolo.

I really like the sharp edges on that Blackwood Twist!

Thw Cocobolo is beautiful too, of course!

Today has panned out really, really well.
Blackwood, Brass and Snakewood, which ranks 4th in the hardest woods list on the Wood Database,

Wow, I just found the stem I have to have next when you open up your list again. Along with the acrylic/blackwood, and several others you have posted in the past few weeks... Simply stunning!!

Happy to say those beauties are mine!! Can't wait to see them in the flesh.

Kudos to PP (again), his welcoming of my involvement throughout the process was second to none, absolutely one of the best buying/designing processes of any product in my life!

DaMN dude. I'm so glad that snakewood turned out great. The grain in it is amazing! I will def be getting one of those when you start taking orders again. I don't even need another stem since I have 2 with out a tip on, but wow, that would be an amazing piece to have. You blew it out the water again, congrats! Keep up that fantastic work, you definitely have an eye for all this.

Can't thank @nacho257 enough for turning me onto the idea of using this wood it's bloody lovely.

I totally agree!!! Stunning wood and expert craftsmanship = fine art.

I must have one. But you's makin' me crazy! What style should I choose? Round? Tapered? A Twist? Maybe Square? Segmented? Triple segmented? VonG? A Telescope?

The decisions are endless. All your stems are sooo beautiful!
.... :hmm: :mental:
