Gear The Source by Extract Craft - a closed loop system for alcohol extractions

Why it might be better to decarb for low temp vaping?
I personally don't do it so can't testify from my own experience, but my friends that swear by low temp vaping decarb to ensure a full decarb when they smoke. Then have been reporting that the flavors are much better but it doesn't hit as hard. To get it to hit harder, they are decarbing oil for their cartridges.

my #1 question, how loud are they when they are generating vacuum?

Are they going to make one that's say 3-4x the size?

Very affordable..would this be a good not too labor intensive way to utilize high quality trim and turn it into something that can be vaped on a nail?

Looking for easiest way to process trim and turn it into concentrates. Thanks.

Oops for the double post, but what does the results taste like after extracting from rosin chips or abv?

Is it worth the time or just better to toss those and only use fresh material?

Is the taste similar of of rosin chips/abv oil similar to reclaim?

Im assuming those might be high in CBN % ?

Obviously depending on how much actives are leftover. Around how much concentrate can this thing produce within one cycler if fully filled?

One cycle is 120 minutes correct? Seems to be so from that most recently posted video.

Ive had mine a little over a year. I also have a closed loop butane extractor. I rarely used the closed loop butane system. My go to is The Source.

Do you have any idea why to use the "normal mode" rather than "turbo mode" ?

The website says:

"Normal mode is the mode for running a typical extraction. It takes approximately 4 hours to complete a full run with minimal pump activity. Turbo mode double the processing speed but also significantly increases pump activity. Both modes work at the same internal operating temperature range."

So Im curious to why one would not want to cut the cycle time in 1/2?

which brings me back to my original question...

How loud is this thing when the compressor is running? (dB SPL)
My suspicion is that it's LOUD, which leads to a follow-up question...
Has anyone made a proper acoustic enclosure for the unit that still meets it's environmental needs?
(airflow, keep the unit cool enough)

You have to really keep an eye on it towards the end in turbo mode or you'll end up with burnt concentrate. But yea, other than that, it's the way to go.

Define loud.. I mean, its loud but its not super loud. I dont know what to equate it to but its considerably quieter than my standalone vacuum pump for my purge container.

I just bought the Source a couple of weeks ago, and I've already made to batches of vape juice using MCT from coconut oil. Incredibly smooth vapor!!

To answer the above questions:
looney2nz, the pump is loud, but after the initial vacuum action, it only goes on for a second or two occasionally. I stick close by when I'm using the machine, but I don't even notice when the pump goes on. It's so brief that it doesn't bother me.

MileHighHuman, That being said, I'm not sure I'd be so happy with the turbo mode (which I haven't tried yet; still getting the hang of the process), because the pump is loud. Kinda sounds like a fog horn.

IAmKrazy2, I'm about to do that experiment. I've got a bunch of super sticky trim which is drying right now. I will decarb it when it's dry in the Ardent Nova and then freeze it & some Everclear 190. I'll do a quick wash, I figure some chlorophyll infusion will be inevitable, but chlorophyll doesn't bother me. I'll let you know how the resulting concentrate turns out. I'm pretty sure that it won't be as high quality as bud concentrate, because I can tell the difference in my tinctures made with bud vs sugar leaf.

Yea.. the pump doesnt run a lot in non turbo mode. It runs constantly almost in turbo mode.

I dont have a sound meter to measure the sound so sorry about that. Its loud but its not "neighbors can hear it running" loud.

Are you all mostly using this to make tinctures/edibles, or does this make decent dabs as well?

I use it to make shatter pretty much exclusively. Works really well but I do my extraction a little different than most.

I put my alcohol and my flower in dry ice for several hours then combine them and put them back in dry ice. About every 15 minutes I take it out, swirl it and put it back in. After an hour, you can strain it out but it actually dewaxes from the extreme cold so all the fats and lipids settle at the bottom.

Works great. Ive mentioned it on the Extractcraft Facebook page a couple of times but I dont think Ive seen anyone else do it this way.

Hi PM, I haven't even tried turbo mode, cuz I was afraid I'd be hearing that fog horn all the time. I can live with regular mode: it just stays on for a second or two. Yes, not loud enough to bother neighbors, but not a pleasant sound.

FL, I called the ExtractCraft folks the other day and found this out!!! So glad to know this!!!

If you decarb the bud before extraction, you will create a sap/oil.

If you do NOT decarb the bud before extraction, you can get wax or shatter for dabs. So I will try that method as soon as I can grow me up some fresh bud!! :leaf::leaf:

I do a similar thing: I freeze the bud and the PGA separately, and then I gently stuff the bud into KorLor420 silk rosin bags. I put the open end of the bag inside another bag and double bag it. Then I put the bags into a jar of alcohol. You won't believe how well it works: of course the alcohol infuses all the good stuff, but everything else seems to stay inside the rosin bags!!! I'm getting strictly deep yellow tincture, even when I leave the stuff overnight!!

Good technique. Maybe I'll combine the two next tine. The dry ice let's you do a reallllllllllly long wash. I've done an hour with zero green in the stained alcohol. What comes out is very clean.

Does it work well with non-fresh material?

I know my rosin presses suffer due to using very well cured material... hopeful this Source might provide a better method.

What do you mean by "non-fresh"? Do you mean cured? Whatever you use in the Source has to be completely dry no matter how long of a cure it's had...
