Whats the best wax pen?

The guy at the store tells me puffco but I saw this and couldnt really find anything that came with more. I heard ceramic coils are unhealthy

https://www.sourcevapes.com/collections/source-orb/products/source-orb-kit-coil-less-quartz-vape-pen

There may well be a best pen, but Imho pens are not quite "there" yet.

I use a pulsar Sirus plus that's super convenient, has a big battery and works well, but it's not great tasting. It's a coil less ceramic donut type atomizer.

I don't think I'd buy another pen until one comes out that tastes as good as my enail.

I just bought the puffco pro. It has an oven like my might vape, only smaller.....its suppose to cook the oil better, or so the sales guy told me

New to concentrates and errls - have the Puffco Plus. Simple to use. Good traveler. But looking at mods/Sai etc or even Xvape Vista to get more or a true dab hit. Que re the Sai - don't want to have to deal with new coils or cleaning coils can you get donuts for them? Suggestions for the mod? Thanks!

EDIT - found this thread http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/thinking-of-getting-a-concentrate-exclusive-pen.23632/

I dont know about the safety of the puffco

for example, I have tasted some kind of burnt plastic when I take hits and its not my shatter.

makes me wonder if they use cheap parts that cause cancer causing chemicals to go into my body once its heated

I have taken apart several Puffco Plus atomizers and there is no plastic in them. I cannot speak for the Puffco Pro, but I know the Plus very well. I have had the chance to speak with the manufacturer in another vaporizer forum and he has identified all the parts in their atomizers. There are two silicone gaskets which were the only things I had concerns of, however they are not under high temperatures and the silicone gaskets they use are of food grade high temp quality.

It's likely that your tasting leftover shatter that has been burnt on the coil if your using the Pro. If your using the Plus, then you don't have enough shatter in the cup probably.

these puffcos suck, the battery life is weak and pathetic. over all a waste of 100$.

should have got a dr dabber boost instead, I tried that out and its better then this.

The batteries that come with the Puffco is just like any other vape pen battery. It is pretty much useless. The voltage/temp settings are typically too high and they don't last a full day ever. I recommend using the Puffco Plus on a TC battery like I do.

As for the Dr Dabber Boost, it is a completely different device. It is not a pen at all and you will find after repeat use that they have their issues...including but not limited to battery life!

Right now, your best options for flavorful hits would be the Divine Tribe 3 or the Puffco Plus on a Box Mod battery. For maximum clouds at the cost of flavor loss the Sai and the newer W9 Atomizers on a Box Mod battery are going to be your best options. For low cost/budget your best option is a Yocan Evolve Plus or perhaps the Yocan Magneto. The Yocan's can also be used on a Mod Box battery, however their batteries are slightly bigger and seem to last slightly longer.

Shitting on the Puffco atty because of the battery seems counterproductive honestly. You want to find the best pen, then you need to look for what is good in every device you try and what you like about them and then look for that in the next pen. This is how I ended up at the Puffco Plus.

Good luck to you!

Check out the omicron v4.. I don't use it often (because I mostly dab/vape at home) but it works pretty damn well.

One cool thing about it is that they don't have solder or glue in the atomizer at all, they use good materials (still made overseas ofc)

And I paid around $88 for the one with the biggest battery, I don't even know how much wax you can put through it on one charge, I'm guessing around a gram or so though or even more possibly. Literally have never worn it down in a day. And I sometimes dab a g of oil at home.

Never tried the saionara but I heard it's good as well.

I also have an Omicron v4. I forgot I had it to be honest. I used to use it every time I left the house but the Source Orb 4 has replaced it. I just ordered the Source 510 enail kit.

I think Source Orb 4 is good with the Nail style coil-less atomizers. I am pretty sure that this coil-less design is the way to go but ive been using it with melty bubble and not oil.

With coil less you still have to replace the atomizer/nail right?

Is there something that exists where you don't constantly have to buy replacement nails/atomizers?

Look at the Hercules (I think) but don't want to spend months learning how to use it

I do know of the safety of this product (I have personally reviewed the product for safety at another site where I do this in cooperation with the manufacturer - when I get the chance, I'll be doing a full teardown as well), there are no plastics to be unsafely heated and the only polymers used are a high temp o-ring.

As to the burning taste you noticed, if you overload the puffco+ with oil, your oil will leak through the air intake holes into the cavity below. The ceramic is heated by a metal mesh in the cavity below, which can easily wick oil into it if you overload the cartridge. That oil will taste like burnt plastic like you describe. This is because that metal mesh/coil that heats the ceramic chamber gets much hotter than the chamber itself, and will overcook oil that directly contacts it very quickly.

My advice to avoid this is DO NOT OVERLOAD the puffco+. If you have overloaded it to the point that this is happening, I'd suggest buying a new chamber (the heater part without a mouthpiece) since your heater chamber is going to be pooched with decomposition/polymerization byproducts in the coil which will keep overcooking.

That just happened...
I've been using one of these for a few months.

http://www.rokinvapes.com/products/

I like that it holds a nice amount of concentrate without overflowing and it appears to be made to a higher standard then other pens/atomizers that I've tried. The battery also seems to be of high quality and can make it through a few days of pretty heavy usage.

I do not think the Puffco Pro 2 is awful, it just is not great or near the best IMO. I think the salesman is referring to the Puffco winning the High Times award for 2015. This was also way before the Pro 2 was out. I personally do not agree with most High Times reviews, it usually seems like paid advertising.

These are the things I did not like about the Puffco:

1. Airflow is extremely restrictive. If you are at a smoke shop ask to try it with it all put together. It almost feels like there is no air holes.

2. The coils are Kanthal. The flavor is not that great.

3. The coil placement is not very good. You will get a lot of wax going on the sides.

4. The coil only has 4 wraps, it feels like you are wasting some wax in between the coil.

Things that I did like about it:

1. The portability is great. It's very compact and the case is excellent.

2. It has a high quality feel. The brushed metal makes it feel premium.

3. When you do get that air out, the hits are pretty milky.

Thanks to @herbivore21 enlightening me about the existence of these portable concentrate rigs I'm now looking to purchase one for my gf to help with her fybromyalgia. It will be mainly used to vaporise CBD crystal isolate which comes in a powdered form:

https://isodiol.com/shop/iso99-anhydrous-hemp-oil/iso99-cbd-crystalline-isolate/

Unless anyone can point me in the direction of other affordable CBD extracts available in the UK that would be more suited to these portable concentrate rigs?

I found this CBD Terpine infused wax crumble:

https://www.cbdoilsuk.com/product/80-cbd-waxcrumble-thc-free-full-terpene-profile/

But at £75($100)/g it's expensive stuff!

So, considering what I want to use the rig for what's my best bet in terms of what to buy?

I initially liked the sound of the puffco+ that you told me about @herbivore21, however what you've said above worries me. Would it be fine to use the puffco+ regularly throughout the day by putting a decent amount of CBD isolate crystals in the chamber and hitting it when required then putting it back into a pocket or bag to hit again later? Your above post makes it sound like you cannot set it down on its side in case the concentrate you are using leaks into the heating section below the chamber. If that's true then how user friendly is this thing in the long term? I know my gf will just hit it and throw it in her handbag or leave it horizontal on her bedstand table, will this be a problem?

Would the divine tribe 3 be a better 'foolproof' solution due to the fact you can break it down clean it and reassemble it, meaning it's virtually bombproof in terms of user error? Because if anything did go wrong you could just fix it?

Thanks for dropping some names of other possible rigs, can you please provide some more information as to why you decided the puffco+ was the rig for you? Also, can you link to a decent box mod that would perform well for what I've got in mind? I'm new to the box mod scene and don't really understand different wattages ohms etc.

I've heard the SAI get some shitty reviews from people who believe that the metal in the atomizer gives your concentrate a metallic tang, is this an issue or not?

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

do they have loading chambers that are just flat without coils too?

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I like the Puffco Plus because ease of use and flavor. The dab tool makes it really easy to load even with less stable concentrates. It also pops bubbles as they are created by the heating/boiling of the concentrates. The flavor doesn't typically degrade much in the Puffco Plus and if you swab it out after a few sessions it will taste like new. You can't do this with many other concentrate pens because they have some kind of coil with a wire exposed. Even donuts have a portion of the wire exposed where it goes through the cup. Since the Puffco Plus is just a cup with a floor heated from below, there is no exposed coils for reclaimed oil to attach to and degrade the flavor.

As far as keeping the pen upright. I do recommend this. If the pen is ever sideways and your concentrate is runny at all it will move around and possibly leak. Right after each hit in any pen, your concentrate whether it be wax or distillate or whatever will turn into a darker than it was pool of liquid. This liquid will typically solidify back to it's normal state after a cool down period of 30-120 seconds. This goes for all pens IME. It would not be different with any concentrate pen that is not preloaded by a dispensary.

I found the Source Orb4 to leak down through the center pin when I used it with it's coiless bucket/nail atomizers. They have the coiless version in ceramic, quartz and titanium. I am interested in the XL versions of their nail atomizers that will be coming out soon. My big problem was I would overload the buckets and then the oil would get between them and the retaining ring which would allow oil to spill throughout the atomizer and eventually clog the center pin which means I couldn't swith out atomizers without a full tear down and clean.

You can find a lot of info about mod boxes in the Divine Tribes thread as they only work on box mods. I will admit, at first box mods can seem a little intimidating. Luckily, you don't have to understand or get into all the different settings and options. You just need to know what your going to use it for.

I don't know what box mods are best out there right now but the best way to get one IMHO is to go to a vape shop and let them show you all the newest models they recommend. Then go and buy it online for half the price.

Honestly, for me, the best solution for portable wax use has been the original yocan evolve, I've had it for about a year or so now, and it's been great. The coils are cheap and easy to replace, and they last quite a while, too. That said, it's a wax pen, and about every other one I've ever used had delivered almost identical performance and flavor to me. They almost all work by heating up two small coils on the bottom, the yocan uses dual quartz kanthal wrapped coils, which work fine. I've has less stellar experiences with their donut coils, but those are superior for flavor.

It comes with a little ego battery that works fine, but I prefer to use mine with my box mod (I already vape nicotine). In regards to which box mod is the best, it really doesn't matter for this at all. As long as it can hit 25w (almost all can), you're good, because any higher and you'll destroy the coil. I find the ideal for the yocan to be about 20w typically.

This suggestion might be good for a Yocan Evolve or even my Puffco Plus attys but I would never suggest a box mod lower than 50W output. If you ever want to run a Divine Tribes Ceramic atty or any dry herb kits or any 510nail kits you may want/need more power. I recall the DTV3 required 35ish Watts for me. And you never want to max out things! Another good fella just said this to me on here the other day!
