The Mighty/Mighty+ by Storz & Bickel

My take on the Mighty Medic is that this product provides a clean break from the Mighty (original) and provides a platform to market the tested/approved Mighty Medic in countries where use of cannabinoids is legal for medical use.
I think there are very few, very minor differences, if any, in design/construction/performance of the two.
I also think that the chamber bowl in Mighty may be aluminum (I'm not positive), but the operating temps are not remotely close to the point that any aluminum would somehow be released.

I take great pleasure in using either one! My go-to is the Hopper, mostly. But I agree there are trade-offs to use of just about any vape; we are still in the infancy of this entire endeavor!

The worst trade-off for me is the huge amount of money I trade off in exchange for herb that I should be allowed to grow for myself!
Aluminum melting point of 660°C, and a vapor pressure of 10-4 Torr at 1,010°C :o

hey guys

I have my Mighty now since February last year. At the beginning it was a great experience but meanwhile I'm getting this "popcorn" taste very early at the beginning of a bowl. Even a cleaned cooling unit does not affect this (cleaned chamber too but I don't get that fully clean).
I can't remember how it was at the very beginning with the Mighty but I would say with time the taste abated.. Can anyone relate to this?

I'd like to test some on demand vaporizers but don't know what to go for. Do you use other vaporizer besides the Mighty at all?

I'd also like to nowif there is a real difference between the Mighty Medic and the regular Mighty.

Please read the previous 2 pages to answer your question regarding mighty medic.

Do you have more than 1 cooling unit?

Seal your thumb over the gauzed bit that attaches to the mighty and blow/suck in the mouth piece. Is there a leak?

Yep, there is a real difference. And it's just been explained on this page.

thanks I just got it the moment you wrote that ^^

yes I do have two cooling units. I'm cleaning them with isopropyl. Cannot test that right now but will do later at home. But both seem not to have leaks as far as I did never notice sth.

The chamber looks way like this one. little burned in though but not that much

Clean vape is a happy vape.
I think the popcorn taste may br one of two things.
Maybe you have used very fine grind or maybe oils and some of that has gone done below the chamber, only to be reheated over and over again. In my opinion this would requiore a factory service to get clean in there. It would void warranty if you were to open the case to do this yourself.

The other possibility is that dirty chamber!
Two methods to get it clean(er); both take some time and a little heat.
First turn unit on and let it warm to about 80-90 degrees C, with c/u off. Turn off.
Take a section of paper towel, fold and roll into a cylinder, a plug that will fit snugly into the chamber, then moisten with iso alcohol, the more pure, the better. Not a dripping mess, but fully moist. Put the plug in the oven and leave it there. It's universally suggested that this kind of thing be done with Mighty upside down, so no alcohol can drip into the unit. You can turn Mighty on again while plug is in, just to warm, not hot. You can turn the plug 'round to swab the chamber.
Give it 5-10 minutes, but before it's dry, take the plug it out. It will have absorbed a lot of resin. You can refold, reuse or start with an new piece; repeat until clean.

Another choice is to use a Magic Eraser, with either water or alcohol ( I think the alcohol is quicker). Find a type that doesn't have any detergents, etc. I've used Mr. Clean Extra Strength (or some such name, idr). Again, a warm oven is your friend in cleaning process. I use a small piece, put it in there and then use the butt end of the cleaning brush to push the eraser around the perimeter of bowl. This will make it shine like new, but takes time and a little patience.

Down and dirty method would be to use an abrasive cleaning pad, but this will leave the bowl with a coarse finish (scratched) that's later harder to clean, and may possibly leave some aluminum dust behind!

Just to add to what Vapviking said, I also make sure the bowl is warm but not hot. I use the little wooden brush that comes with it + an ISO wipe (the little mini ones from drug store). I wrap the wipe around the end of the brush and then apply pressure to the sides of the bowl and keep doing that until it's shining. I first thought the resin "scratches" I had in the bowl would never be able to be removed, but I was so happy that I was wrong! It's amazing how quickly the bottom of the chamber can fill with weed dust, and it turns black and quickly affects flavour, so maintenance is essentially to keep everything clean as a whistle. Even just a use or two can affect it as well as the CU stinks after use. I don't know how some of you guys wait for reclaim, yuck!

I'm not sure anything would survive falling through the chamber, unless I supposed it's right under the holes, but it should get hot enough in there to incinerate it. I personally would never use a magic eraser in anything i'm inhaling from, no matter how much residue you think you've cleaned from it. But if you do, make sure you really clean up properly with ISO after.

I'm surprised that S&B haven't come out with some sort of "cleaning kit" yet, but the key here is to not let it get to that point!

I was asking about the chinese oil pads few days ago, but what about those SB ones? are they quality, did anybody got harsh throat from them or other complications? they seems like steel wool :D

I just got a mighty a few weeks ago, and I'm in love with it! but I have a question about the dosing capsules. Does anyone ever find them cinched down so tight that they're nearly impossible to open? Mine came with 2 magazines of capsules, and I used 1 magazine with its 8 caps exclusively for the first month. Everything was great, capsule lids were easy to remove, and there was no apparent resistance with closing the magazine.

This week it was time to wash everything, so I grabbed the second magazine. There's resistance trying to twist this magazine all the way closed. I see the notch where it's supposed to rest in the closed position, but it takes noticeable effort to make the notches get lined up. I didn't think much of this until I started trying to open these capsules, and I was breaking my nails with every single one. The only way I can open many of these is to literally deform the capsule, and then push it back into its original shape after opening it. I'm thinking maybe the magazine or the capsules are out of spec, and when I tried closing that magazine, it was cranking the lids on the capsules down tight, which might explain the resistance I experience trying to close this magazine.

But then I grabbed capsules out of the bag of 40 I also bought, and used them instead. I put them into the original magazine I had been using, the magazine without any issues, and now this magazine has some resistance in closing, and now the capsules I've put into this magazine are cinched down super tight! So now I'm not so sure it's the magazine that's out of spec, maybe it's the capsules... I just don't know, though.

What can I do to prevent this from happening? I know it seems silly to complain of broken nails, but my thumbnail has been utterly abused in this process. Chipping, breaking, and folding backwards, that's what my nail has endured this past week. So deforming the capsules in effort to open them is the best solution I have right now, but I just want to know why the capsules are not as easy to open as they were initially? but more importantly, I just want tips for how to circumvent this, or how to prevent this altogether. Thanks

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
Hi @calebsw

I don't have a magazine for the capsules. However, I know for a fact you can heat the dosing capsules to separate. A good tip is to separate them when they are hot enough to handle. If you let them sit too much longer the odds of them cinching up again will increase.

@calebsw re capsules
I use the end of the Mighty brush to gently expand the lids circumference. Job done no more broken nails

great post man, the smartest, wisest ideas are usually very simple. I was thinking about the same issue and wanted to tell the op to pick up scalpel like knife and gently pry it open, but try not to cut yourself! I was also thinking about using some vegetable oil or some kind of lubricant as they use with glass mouthpieces and similar stuff.

Only a partial response to a part of your capsule problem...and just a thought...

If the capsules are set into the magazine upside down (lid toward the orange half) then they don't seat all the way down easily, the magazine lid will be restricted in travel and it will also exert pressure on the caps, forcing their lids on tighter. On the other hand, in partial answer to another part, this upside down placement with the pressure can help bring distorted cap lids back into shape.

As I try to lift a lid off, if its not easily coming off, I rotate and look for a spot where it will come off.

Hope these are not too simplistic, it's sure possible you have a bum batch. Let S&B know you have trouble and they'll replace, I'm sure, without question.

I like everyone's suggestions, and thought @vapviking nailed it with the thought of them being upside down. Then I did it to one of mine, and it popped right open. Then again.......

I've also found mine to loosen up with use. Now I use the same 16 in rotation and only blow them clean. I like a little resin in them, it's helps them stay closed!

I second the idea of contacting S/B.

word! I'm also verry happy that I found this thread here.

I always use the official S&B grinder which grinds the herb very fine sometimes even a little dusty. Is it better to use a less fine grinder for the Mighty?

Interesting how this is supposed to be a "problem RMA" vape as well, so I guess that goes out the window! Don't people come on to forums and threads to voice their problems? Guess the Mighty is a tank! I always thought so! The Crafty on the other hand? Perhaps it's solid now too? That thread is a GHOST TOWN! Why?

I don't think so, but it's personal preference and you will get a bunch of replies that disagree with mine. I don't like fine grinds in any vape really. I find that a coarser grind allows better airflow, taste, and most importantly for me - lung comfort. A fine grind in the Mighty really irritates me at higher temps, and taste goes south much faster. Also more destruction of terpenes compared to a coarser shred. All depends on the vape, but with the Mighty being a Convection/Conduction hybrid, more on the convection side IMO, I think a medium to coarse grind is ideal. But do you want CLOUDS? You know more particulate condensate? Go fine. I disagree that you get more medicated with a fine grind like I think Vape Critic says.

Experiment and tell us what you think Skywalker420!

I'm with @biohacker , I did think you get vapor faster/easier with a fine grind. But I prefer closer to a medium shred, it saves on cleaning, doesn't irritate my throat..... Then again, if I'm trying to show off for smokers, a fine grind thru water at 410F and away I go!

This right here has to be the best advice I've seen yet for cleaning the Mighty bowl. I just did a slight variation on it....I used a bamboo spear instead of the brush....wrapped an iso wipe around it and just wiped against the metal bowl sides, in circular fashion, with slight pressure, over and over again....part of the trick seems to be just getting into a groove with it and continue to rotate the wipe against the metal, over and over.

Took me a total of four iso wipes and about ten minutes of constant wiping rotation, but my bowl went from black to shiny metal. Cleanest it's been in over a year. Nice tip Biohacker!!:nod:

Also more destruction of terpenes compared to a coarser shred.

I don't seem to want to immediately agree with this. Do you mean that the terps are damaged by grinding or that when fine ground, the terps are extracted fully in the first draw or two?

I do grind fine as I believe that this exposes more surface area to heat. I do think that this speeds up extraction, to include terps, but I don't see any negative consequences to this in terms of effect.

Cheers
