hello everyone,,,very fun and informative convos,,

anyway, , I am considering buying a source,,
my ultimate goal is to produce a high quality oil that I can vape,,, take a couple of tokes and be good.. the stealth mode is very impotant to me too,, the bigget problem my whole life with weed is the stink!! :)
I live in nyc,,, so getting the oils are very expensive, you guys in colo. dont even wanna know what the street price is for .5g in a disposable pen...
ive made oils using vg/pg cooking it in the double boiler,, etc...ive had decent results, but nothing to brag about..
so, if the source can produce me some good hash oil, wax or even shatter,, that I can transform into vape,, im looking at ej mix or wax liquidizer,, then the price for me would be justified...
im not looking for profit,, just to have a small personal stash of oil...
so pros :) can anyone show/explain to me if im the right path,,, because im almost prepared to purchase one...
if I even can. are they for sale? anyway thanks in advance for any help. ..

Very interesting timing, someone just posted about this in the user group a few moments ago. "The Source by extractcraft user group" on facebook

thats kool,,, im a bit older-ish,,, I dont really do the social media,,, although I can see its benefits for passing info..

I wish to purchase one,, the site says shipping early feb,,, was wondering if theres any other options or is the extractcraft site best way to go..

side note: to the mbm users,, after much testing,, heres how I make potent edibles every time..

decarb, at 220°for 45-50 min......2oz of regs,, not shitty regs but decent regs,, the high quality is overkill and waste of money,,2oz of reg is still cheaper then 1 ounce of quality.(I never smoke regs)
2.5 cups of coconut oil (if u dont like coc. u can substitute for one of the other recommended oils)
I began using clarified butter,, this works well,, but the clarification process is a bit tedious,,
, I tried coc oil one day,, effects were great if not better. just need to use recipes that calls for oil as opposed to butter..
then u can make yer dough,, which u can store in cling wrap,, and make as many or as little cookies as u desire...
you will find half a cookie is more then enough. .
anyway , hope this helped any mbm users..

Not sure if you ever picked one up but they have them available online at THC. I've been eyeing one up now that our dollar is so crap. Currently the only location in Canada with them for my fellow Canucks on the hunt.

..if you did end up getting one, how is it performing?

That's a much better deal, a full $200 less and if you live in Ontario (or anywhere else non-BC) you'll only pay GST on it. They ship to the US too so after currency conversion it should work out to around US$400 shipped.

That looks and sounds like the first units by extractcraft. I'm looking for the latest Source Turbo model with all the updates.
There's only one retail mass-production model and I doubt there's enough early units to resell en mass. The Turbo was more of a smart rebranding to address defects in the early models such as the big one of not accounting for elevation which meant anyone not at 5000 feet got a unit that didn't function correctly. They got lemons and made lemonade so kudos to them for that.

Well, according to Extractcraft's store locations map, THC and Shell Shock in Edmonton(can't find it on their site) are the only legit Canadian retailers. Def a much better deal though.. Has anyone tried wacky willy's? sounds and looks a lil sketchy..

I'd check with ExtractCraft first to be sure before spending money to be sure. Anything negative I would heard about Wacky Willy's would have been ages ago, they've been around forever.

I bought my sifting screens from Willy and he delivered them to my house! Good service. Give him a call.

Not affiliated in any way.

Contacted extractcraft and they said that Wacky Willy doesn't have any units.. and his prices are listed in US$ FYI. So not actually saving a couple hundred bucks going through him. Toronto Hemp Co is the only Canadian retailer with units on hand. Will be getting one in a couple weeks. Will report back.

Cool, thanks for the update. It's possible Willy got his from a wholesaler, I don't think China has copied it yet.

Actually, the Turbo model was a complete rework of everything internally from a lot of the hardware and almost all of the software. The addition of the turbo mode double processing speed while keeping the operating temps the same between normal and turbo. Additionally, at the same time they integrated the altitude tuning for uniform performance regardless of location. So you are missing a lot of what was upgraded and the only thing that stayed the same was the overall design which would appear unchanged from the outside, but beauty is only skin deep :)

Picked one up finally, quite happy with the results. Simplifies the process as well as a much shorter turn around time. Pretty fool proof and with a lil know how and you can come out with a premium product. Glass jar on 2nd run in crucible = more oily consistency. Parchment paper 2nd run in crucible= more glass/shatter consistency.:D

First run in the source with tincture in crucible, set to TURBO mode, wait till fully done. Take remaining "liquid" and place in either a glass(thinner the better) that can fit in the crucible or line a similar sized cup to the crucible with parchment paper and fill with liquid. Then place either the glass or move the parchment into the crucible for a 2nd reduction on NORMAL mode. Reduce till no more bubbling and turn off machine. Remove glass or parchment, let material cool down and collect. You can either leave it in the glass you prepared it in or move into a different container while still hot. You can add a LIL heat to increase viscosity but don't let material or glass fully cool down first(avoid reheating/overheating). My results when using the unspecified glassware have been more viscous. When dry on the parchment, scrape together like you would a similar product and move to a piece of fresh parchment. Then take your "clump", place second piece of parchment paper on top of clump and flatten it out with a rolling pin. Flipping over the pancake every 6-12hrs to air purge/cure for 2 days. If parchment is sticking to material when removing place in freezer briefly to ease removal. These results will leave you with a "shatter" like consistency.

For your wash, you want to be fast. Any longer then 5mins and you're pulling chlorophyll. Make your tincture asap, strain, place in freezer for 2 days. Let fats/waxes rest/collect at bottom of tincture. Filter tincture through double unbleached coffee filters with keeping an eye on fats/waxes towards the end of the pour(you don't want them in the mix!).

I recommend the 3 triple wash(3 separate tincture batches) with this machine. As you can reclaim alcohol and isn't too costly otherwise it prob isn't worth the hassle unless lots of material being processed.

1st wash - 2min - Done right, processed results should be clear amber material.
NO waiting time between material dunks! Move immediately from 1st wash container to 2nd wash container.
2nd wash - 3min - Fresh alcohol in separate container - Done right, processed results should be clear amber material.
3rd wash - Long wash for 2-30 days - You can throw all your waxes, fats, leftover alcohol, etc from the other runs into this tincture as you're not aiming for refinement - Processed results will be thick non transparent black(RSO) material.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks.. I hadnt tried the parchment paper. I usually remove my stuff from the crucible when it starts to thicken up a little and put it in a purge chamber on a heat mat. I havent been able to get a shatter consistency out of The Source but Ive gotten pretty close. Ive found that long purges in the vacuum chamber at lower heat tend to yield slightly better results.

I'm new to this, and want to be clear: you don't decarboxylate prior to washing?
It depends what you are doing and what you want to make. To decarb you can either decarb the plant material prior to washing (my preference) or you can decarb the extract when you have the final product. If you are doing an extraction that is going to be consumed orally, like edibles, you must decarb. If you are trying to make a stable smoking material you must not decarb, because if you do decarb the only form your concentrate will take is a sap form. You can still smoke it, its just a bit messy. Typically if you are making an extract to smoke you won't decarb with one exception. That exception is when you want to use the concentrate to for low temp vaping. Hope this helps.

Thanks -- that does help. I want to make tinctures, and I keep reading about how folks don't like the taste of chlorophyl --- still unclear: if you decarb properly cured material, how is there any chlorophyl still left?

Decarbing doesn't get rid of the chlorophyll, its still in there for sure. I wish it wasn't. If you do a clean wash you can avoid that flavor. Additionally, you can extract other botanicals like cinnamon, mint, coffee, or whatever you want to mix in with the tincture to taste great. Unfortunately, once the chlorophyll is in there there is no good way to mask it, so make clean wash and add some good flavor.
