Is it time to create more sections in FC?

Hi, friends, lurker and mods,

Do you think it might be the time to create more sections in FC....

I thought about an "e-nail" section or "concentrates dedicaced desktop vapes" , a butan powered vapes" section and change the "e-cig based portable vapes" section in a "concentrates dedicaced portables vapes" section.

Although I noticed a lot of improvements lately as the "discontinued" and some more I don't remenber but the improvement I speak about seems good to clarify FC since the huge amount of new brands and products.

Please folks, don't hesitate to post your opinions on this topic.

Hi @PPN,

Good question, thanks for bringing it up. Considering the benefits of new sections and/or reorganizing is a good idea from time to time and it's something that I've been thinking about for a while. Personally I lean towards finding a healthy balance of useful, sensible, and manageable. It's important to have a logically organized structure and sometimes that means new subforums. At the same time I don't think it makes sense to have a bunch of forums with only a few threads in them.

A good starting point might be to go through the Concentrates section for example and tag threads with the most common denominators such as "e-nail". When done properly this can be very useful. For example there's a tag for flame powered vapes. Using thread prefixes such as we've done with "Discontinued" provides essentially the same functionality as having sub forums. For example "Portable" and "Plug-In" prefixes in the Concentrates section.

I'm interested to hear what other members think on the topic.

Yes, I realize I don't use a lot this prefixes, thanks to remind it to me!

And I understand better your logic too.

I think there's a bit of confusion between prefixes and tags.

The past month I've been reviewing the entire portable vaporizers section to flag all old products as "discontinued". They were added as prefixes and I think it makes the most sense.

BUT

We can only have a single prefix, and there are some existing ones that should be tags instead. I think that for instance "pen style" should be a tag and not a prefix. Same for "flame powered" (this one is already a tag though)

I'm also seizing the occasion to ask if we could move the DIY subforum up one level. For now it's hidden in the "Ask FC" section and it's too hard to find. There has been a lot of activity recently, with community initiatives like "the Project" and the "Vapcap induction heaters" and they could benefit from more exposure.

I agree that's likely as they are similar. For the most part I think tags are the ticket as they are easy to use and set up to be user-created. FWIW there are currently 879 different tags that have been used. Many are fairly "niche", however the tag cloud shows the most used tags.

Prefixes seem like a good way to provide the sorting functionality of sub-forums without actually creating them. Personally this makes sense to me in places like the Classifieds where I think it's preferable to see all of the listings in one forum. Users can still easily click the "For Sale" prefix and see only For Sale posts.

I agree with you that Prefixes make much less sense where they are currently used outside of the Classifieds. If tagging was added in the software earlier most of them would have likely been tags in the first place and it's not too late to switch them over.

I'm also seizing the occasion to ask if we could move the DIY subforum up one level.
That's something I've been wanting to do for quite some time. Somewhat of a selfish desire as the DIY discussion is of great interest to me and I'd love to see more. Back then it wasn't as busy, but you're right it's time to move it on up! Let's try it in General Vaporization Discussion to start as not all of the discussion are specific to vaporizers.

Re-organizing everything in the most logical way possible is something I've been dreaming about for a while too. Maybe we can make it into a contest.

I went to some friends' house last night for a meal for a pretty large number of guests. Impossible to have the whole dinner table in the same conversation. At one point, a small group of us at one area of the table hit on a good topic of conversation. Five or six of the thirty folks there.

It wouldn't have been any where near as fun a conversation if we had taken the conversation table-wide.

That's my semi-creative way of saying that sometimes small conversations have a place at the table too. Some people might look for an out-of-the-way place to hang out and discuss things with like minded souls. When a thread is put on the main drag, so to speak, the traffic might slow things down.
