Best way to remove mucus

You might try elderflower. It won't reduce mucous but it's an effective bronchodilator that could be combined with other remedies. Also makes a delicious tea - it's what flavors St. Germain liqueur.

Just about to type this. Not asthmatic but had sinus headaches for many years. Always liked spicy food and noticed relief afterward, so started adding habaneros to daily stir-fry. Don't think capsaicin reduces mucous but dilutes it to a sweat-like consistency that drains easily. (The real culprits were the dogs. Allergic. Don't need peppers without them.)

Can vouch for these as well:

Think "all" is key here. Dairy acts like a sensitizer. Need to get rid of all of it to see an effect, not just reduce. Interesting alternatives exist including naturally cultured nut-based cheeses.

Another fav.

Look at my avatar - see how clear those sinuses are? :zombie:

I always thought your avatar was some red rosin press LOL or red shatter ... it's a face= what

The best way to remove mucus is to go out into the desert and inhale the dusty air through your nostrils and exhale from your mouth.... do this repeatedly until your nostril innards are dry as dirt.....
then go in there with a needlenose plier and grab a hold of that crusty bastard and haul his ass outta there kickin' and screamin'.
Word.

Lol! After reading @Squiby's comment I think I may need to add notes to my avatar highlighting that this is actually pink shards of crystalline full melt bubble hash ;)

yep. That is the pig that I see.

Unmistakable.

we pause ( my girl and I) all the time on tv and there is no telling what images pop on the tube while staring at the paused screen... Vapor inhales + random pause equals random image= mind blown!

I bought some oregano essential oil and have been taking 2-3 drops in a gelatin capsule 1-2x a day and it seems to help. I still have the cough but mucus seems to be mostly gone. Not completely gone but probably like 75%

Staying properly hydrated is a must. Water Water Water.
As an almost life long asthmatic, and a respiratory therapist for 15 years, that's what I'd recommend before anything.

Studies on Mucomyst go either way. I wouldn't recommend it. Plus it smells like rotten eggs, and you'd have to nebulize it. Drinking it will however save your liver if you decide to take too much acetaminophen.

So, this may be a coincidence, but I'm mostly good now. Been 10 or so days since I got the oregano oil and the coughing/mucus is like 90% gone. Just following up since nearly nothing else worked and this seems to be pretty good. I also started taking a vit-b complex again around the same time but I doubt that matters

I have been living with the most impossible excessive mucus production for 12 years now, due to multiple infections in my lungs, throat and sinuses plus intestines.
Also the most severe allergies.
I am literally managing symptoms 24/7. My life revolves around it. Every time I eat food, my respiratory tract fills up with tons of thick mucus.
Different foods vary enormously in terms of the level of mucus produced. Most foods most people eat I have to avoid like the plague! You would not believe the gigantic list of things I have to avoid.
The same goes for virtually all supplements and herbs. With very few exceptions. To this day, I still cannot use any type of toothpaste. I use himalayan salt to brush my teeth, which are perfectly healthy.

I take oil of oregano every single day. I would not be here without it. It is one of the very few remedies that does not exacerbate the mucus production,,and it is a vital part of my symptom management routine.
I also take vitamin c, "ascorbic acid" powder. This I put on a teaspoon and tip into the back of my mouth/throat, being careful not to choke on it. I dont want it in my mouth. It is very sharp.

When the mucus is worse, I cant swallow the vitamin c for a minute or 2, as it is reacting with and dissolving mucus in my throat. Eventually, I can swallow it, but I make a conscious effort not to also swallow the mucus it has dissolved at the same time.

I lean over the toilet and mucus literally runs out of my mouth for 2 or 3 minutes. It has been thinned out by the ascorbic acid powder.
It doesnt work if I take the vitamin c down dissolved in water. It needs to be in contact with the mucus in my upper respiratory tract. This is another highly effective and vital part of my routine. I do this after meals, before I take the oregano oil.
Aloe vera juice is also very helpful, except I have only found one particular brand that does not actually cause more mucus production for me, for an unknown reason.

I also HAVE to use high quality essential oils daily to clear the excessive mucus from my respiratory tract. Especially peppermint oil.
It can be very painful, the menthol, a "no pain, no gain."

I used to put 2 or 3 drops of peppermint oil onto one palm, rub my palms together, and cup my hands over my mouth and nose and inhale deeply. It is necessary to hold the oil in for a while for best effect.
Rosemary is also good, but not as good as "eucalyptus radiata".

I get most of my essential oils from this US company. They are pure, the highest quality, and very affordable.

https://www.rockymountainoils.com/

However, I developed hand injuries 4 years ago, and have not been able to use this "palm" method anymore. Even more effective for thorough, deep lung cleansing, is doing a steam inhalation with the essential oils.

You can use a bowl, cup or any suitable vessel. I now use one of those portable "travel mugs" with a lid and handle, for taking warm drinks out of the house. It is easier to keep the oils in the right place on the surface of the water.
In a large bowl they can drift around on the surface and you can miss the right area.
You just need to boil clean water (I use filtered, avoid chlorinated water for this), put into the cup, drop 2, 3 or 4 drops of peppermint oil onto the surface and inhale deeply.

Again hold it in. It can be painful, as the menthol forces the mucus up quickly from the lungs. At first it is impossible to inhale into the sinuses-too painful.
I begin with deep mouth inhalation, and soon the sinuses begin to clear. Then I inhale into sinuses. I do 2 rounds of peppermint oil.
The 1st round clears the passages, the 2nd gets deeper access into the lungs.,and takes the clearing to another level.

I then fiinsh off with 3 drops of eucalyptus radiata, which is never painful, and works in a complimentary way to "clean up". Rosemary is also good at this stage.

However, I ALWAYS begin with peppermint oil first. If I start with the other oils first, the result is not the same and the relief is much less.

The relief is ENORMOUS! It is like a vaccum cleaner for the lungs. I would not be alive today without this ingenious method for dealing with abnormally severe chronic respiratory mucus.
My symptoms are incredibly severe due to severe allergies and having had AT LEAST 2 infections in both of my lungs every single since I got Lyme Disease in 2005.

At times, 6 separate infections in both lungs. It is real murder, and I have to be so mentally strong to cope.
If I dont manage my symptoms very thoroughly every single day, I will choke on mucus and this would be fatal in no time, it's that serious.

I also have another method where I vaporize the essential oils using degummed hemp fiber in my Herborizer XL.
This is highly effective, but it takes a specific setup to work. A low temp, which will vary from vape to vape.

The trickiest bit is actually forming the bed of hemp fiber just right. It needs to be dense and compact enough to hold the essential oils for long enough without them dripping through too soon.
But not too compact to restrict air and vapor flow. And you need to get the exact right temp. Much lower than normal vaping temps. Just a smidge pver 150°C on my Herborizer, but vape design, bowl size, shape, distance will all be factors. So best to start low and build up. It is easy to burn the oils, resulting in irritation.
Here is a photo of the bowl setup with hemp fiber:

And a link to post about it recently:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-official-cannabreak-thread.24049/page-5#post-1103898

It can be tricky getting the hemp fiber just right. I am having more success sqaushing it down slightly in the bowl, but first I cut the strands into short, half cm lengths, stretch them all apart, then gently bundle them all into a loose ball, and drop into the bowl and press down and make sure there is enough depth in the center to keep the oils from falling through.

The hemp fiber will not work for more than 2 uses before it is gummed up and a bit "sticky" from the oils.
I can get 2 good routines out of it (3 rounds of oils each time), but after the first use, it is necesary to pull apart the individual fibers and form another ball in the same way.

After 2 uses, it is best to make a new gauze.
There are many other supplements that are excellent for treating mucus, but I react adversely to almost everything, when these substances are no problem and extremely helpful to others.

However, one remedy I STRONGLY RECOMMEMD for mucus, is organic CAYENNE PEPPER.

It is amazing at relieving respiratory mucus. I take a "shot" of cayenne in the morning, prior to the essential oil routine- half to 1 teaspoon in a shot glass of water. It massively improves the effectiveness of the essential oils. I also add cayenne to all of my meals. Cinnamom and turmeric are also very beneficial.

And all 3 of these spices have enormous medicinal benefits. Look into them health maintenance is an interest. And organic spices are 100 times superior to non organic, aroma, flavor wise and most of all medicinally. We get all our spices online now from a UK company. They are very affordable. We use a lot, so I get 250 gr to kilo bags at a time.

Vitolo, actually "he", is a "she"!
Dont worry, you aren't the first person to make that mistake, eh @Squiby ?;)
And Squiby, I also use the Thieves oil, by Young Living. And I also have told the tale about the plague robbers many times!

However, regarding the Thieves efficacy and usefulness for treating mucus and respiratory symptoms- I see it mainly as an antimicrobial oil, rather than an out and out mucus reliever as such.

It still is good for mucus, but it is mainly antimocribial. When my viruses and other infections are really bad, it is very important for me to include it in my steam inhalations at least once per day.

But when my upper respiratory infections are much better, the Thieves brings only a little noticeable relief, compared to peppermint and eucalyptus radiata, which are also antimocribial (especially the eucalyptus), but also are out and out mucus relievers.

Eucalyptus radiata us the most powerful and effective eucalyptus. The one from "Native American Nutritionals" is absolutely excellent, and very cheap for the highest quality you can possibly get. Under $15 for 15 ml!

I use 4 thieves daily as my oil for after morning aromatherapy to lead into the day.
I make mine using(all 100% essential oil):
  • 8 drops of Clove
  • 6 drops of Lemon
  • 3 drops of Cinnamon
  • 2 drops of Eucalyptus (or Eucalyptus Radiata)
  • 1 drop of Rosemary
It keeps me and my sinuses "right"!

Thanks for sharing Vitolo, and I really hope things are going well for you and friends and family these days.
Just out of interest, in the fewest words, I am curious what method of arometherapy you use in the morning? I dont know if you have seen my post above describing in detail how I mange the most severe allergy symptoms with essential oils, including direct vaprorization and steam inhalation, but I am always looking for a practical, "hardcore", and easier alternative to inhale essential oils for the fastest and most effective relief of serious lung congestion.

Any time you have any unique approaches, I will be all ears!

Diffusing the oils is not really effective enough for me personally, it brings relief, but my symptoms are so extreme, I really need the "big guns"!:goon:

I use the flattest surface that I can safely use, and it must be large enough for the oils to move around (run from heat).
The SSV with it's aromatop is the perfect situation for this.
It is already warm when I awaken, and I can select oils from there.
DSC05306.jpg

I medicate while I am breathing in the aromas that I have created.
I use a technique I call reverse redintegration.
Redintegration is the concept that describes how a sense triggers memories.
looking through red glass, may remind you of a childhood moment.
Smell is the sense most effected by this phenomenon.
I found that by thinking of a smell from a point when I was not ill....
then I try to reproduce the scent using the collection of oils you see in the pictures, I am able to engage a portion of my brain that prevents the nausea from being triggered.
I named the process reverse redintegration.
I realize that this moves from the mucous topic, but having a selection of oils at your disposal, and ready to go is not off topic at all!

It sounds like you may have a chronic nasal infection. These are notoriously hard to eradicate.

Nasal sprays can easily create a dependency and have a rebound effect when you stop using them. They are not the solution in my opinion.

Using a nasal flush containing distilled water along with tiny amounts of salt and baking soda will stop the infection. Not immediately though and you need to do this a few times a day for a few weeks or more. But, it will eventually resolve the problem permanently.

Many people use a Neti pot to flush their sinuses but I prefer this set-up.

https://www.amazon.com/SinuFlo-Read...0030HMR7E/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

This is much more comfortable than using a Neti-pot.

The other thing that I can suggest is to take several grams of ascorbic acid to bowel tolerance until your symptoms subside.

These two approaches helped me get rid of decades of horrible terrible chronic nasal congestion. I no longer suffer with this at all anymore. I take my vitamin C and rinse my sinuses whenever I have the first sign of any sinus congestion.

I'm constantly having a hard time breathing trough my nose. It feels dry and congested and the skin on the inside comes out in pieces and it never seems to stop. Could this be a chronic nasal infection? and would your recipe help?

I have some experience regarding humidifiers with plastic reservoir;
It seemed to work fine. I even inhaled from it and it tasted delicious, UNTIL I started tasting plastic. One look into the reservoir and I could see why. The oils where melting the plastic which I inhaled......

The next day was followed by a HORRIBLE headache, but an important lesson was learned. Know your shit.

I'm thinking it might! It's worth a try.

I have some experience regarding humidifiers with plastic reservoir;

I would avoid humidifiers with plastic reservoirs or anything that heats the essential oils, if you can avoid it. Medicinal components of essential oils are easily destroyed by heat and plastic can easily break down when in contact with EOs.

I suggest an Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffuser with a glass, ceramic or metal reservoir. These vibrate the oils to release their molecules into the air. No heat or plastic is involved. This approach provides the full therapeutic value of the oils.

They're not expensive and Amazon, as well as many others retailers offer a plethora of models to choose from.
