***Gamers*** What are you playing?

Hoping it's good, I've been playing BotW on my IPS 21:9 2560x1080 with no real issues, but MK8 going to run 1080p 60fps rather than BotWs 900p 30fps. Not sure about undocked, as I've used it really sparingly. I should probably try it out more but I've been extremely careful while waiting for my tempered glass screen protector to arrive and thus have been minimizing the amount of docking+undocking I do.

Maybe I'm just really good at justifying my shitty/frivolous purchases but I feel like videogames are pretty cheap entertainment per hour. I bought the switch($300)+BotW($60)+pro backpack($50) = let's just say $420 after tax/etc, which is probably on the high end, considering I got 20% off the system+game (maybe just the game idk) and 5% off the backpack...

$420/150hrs so far in BotW.

$2.80 per hour of entertainment. (and I could probably not factor the system into the equation til I get more games/etc and could probably just leave out the backpack period as it's completely unnecessary, I just wanted the #s to be as high as possible to make a point)

Compare that to going to see a movie etc. Also I bet I'll sink at least another 150 in.

Anyway this post got away from me......

I'm curious where you're getting 4k 19in for undocked tho? @rodders83

Just using a monitor pixels per inch calulator bro, And it gvies the maths on how sharp it is really blur and ppi is all that matters in gaming. Sven.de says 230ppi undocked and docking is 900p split across your displays size and res. But it scales bad when you go above the pixels for example 1080p on 4K has 4 times the pixels you an only fill one out of four with info. It will be worse on 8k so i hate the effect.

So to match a switch you need a 19inh 4k display which is incredible compared to docked mode Some may have 4x less. 2560 Ultrawide is a close match for 1:1 which is better especially the 29".

Looks pretty good but I do get the impression it's stretched on this monitor sometimes (obviously) it is 29in tho.

I think I'll be grabbing that new 27in, 4k, 144hz ASUS monitor once it's released tho and will probably sell the 2 monitors I have now :)

But word, I got you on the undocked display. Good to know that considering PPI/DPI it's a good display.

I will say that my scaling was really fucked up when I was playing on my monitor, then leaned over and grabbed my buddies undocked switch to help him with something. It felt like the camera was fucked up lol,

I think LG is actually going to repair my monitor luckily, but... I'm debating on picking up a new monitor and just selling the LG and my Asus... The color is just bad on the Asus and I'd rather just use my LG with the vertical line it than deal with bad color reproduction.

Anyway, to get to my point: people here have any opinions on these 2 monitors?

or

not sure how much I'll care about the aesthetics of my monitor and its bezel in reality, which seems to be a majority of the difference...

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
Nier Automata is unlike any other game you will play. If you like jrpg's it is a nobrainer. Even if you don't it's worth a try. I'm on the 3rd "ending" now. Without giving any spoilers the whole "endings" thing is a bit of a gimmick. It's more like chapters if you will. Like Pulp Fiction if it was a game.

So, upon researching I found they pretty much have exactly the same panel, except the OMEN has a slightly newer version. All I know is that is has slimmer edges allowing for the smaller bezel on it.

In reality, I don't care and slim, non-glossy bezels aren't worth the $300 diff for me.

Waiting to see what happens with my LG but I'm thinking I'll be getting the AOC soon.

Also, I got my screenprotectors for my switch in and they're dope. No bubbles/dust and it's pretty thick. Now I'll start lugging it around and see how the backpack is.

81 shrines and like 150 korok seeds in BotW atm. I wasn't going for completionism at first (and still won't be) but I wanna do all shrines, max all relevant armor and maybe complete the compendium and max out inventory. At this pace things will be all good tho cos I wouldn't beat it now even if I had 100%. I want to witness the ending in full glory. Not on some crummy 16:9 monitor, or my broken LG or the small ass switch screen

edit: word nier automata looked dope, may pick it up. i love jrpgs and especially squareenix for whatever reason

Finished off the last DLC for Dark Souls 3, played through Party Hard, and got through Broforce.

I'm enjoying some random games in Rocket League, driving/biking/flying aimlessly in GTA online, and need to pick up and finish Fallout 4 again after getting bored with typical Bethesda shallow gameplay....Organized all my PS4 games and I have 41 games to start, thanks to the monthly free games and sales.

I'm most excited to start Plamescape: Tides of numerisiswidnbejisawhatever and plow through the GoT telltale games soon

@muunch G-sync is nice but if it is a VA heck even if it is IPS it is the ULMB you want @ 100hz not G-sync just hold the fps at 100.00fps and it will be just like G-sync with a tiny bit more lag and a vastly superior experience.

To be honest 21.9 ULMB @ 100hz is going to only lack pixel density. The Asus you mentioned by the way is apparantly 2000 dollars for 4K 144hz HDR so make of this what you will. Also For Honor is fucking brutal heads up if you never heard of it?

I decided I'd rather buy a ton of herb and just spend the $50 to get my monitor fixed so meh :/

I finally beat Zelda, even with the broken monitor!

I'm only 113/120 on shrines (actually 114 if I could figure out how to beat the constellation one) but I'm trying not to look anything up. I tried waiting til I had all 120 but was getting annoyed at avoiding spoilers since I'm really interested in the lore.

The final battle was pretty disappointing if you ask me... Really dope cutscenes after. But man... I get the second phase was supposed to be cinematic but maybe another more difficult phase would have been nice.

I don't mind the dungeons (or lack of) that other people seem to be complaining about but again, I haven't looked anything up and some of the puzzles are pretty difficult. I do wish it was longer and that there was more lore... but we'll see. Good thing is I bet they'll be using this engine for the next 3d zelda so woooo.

I'm still going to continue to play, as I want to get all 120 shrines... I don't care about Korok seeds but I'm close to 300 rn. I may complete the compendium and stuff for fun but once I get all shrines and sidequests I may be a bit burnt out to play for a bit. I'm nearing 300 hours logged, but idk how much of it is idle time... but yeah.

Are you getting Mario Kart @Prolusio ? Who else has a switch?

Let's start adding each other and whatnot! ... once I figure out how!:spliff:

@muunch yeah I'll be getting mario kart 8! I'm also not sure how to add people.. I think you need that super long friend code that appears on your profile but I totally forget how to find it right now.

I haven't beaten Zelda yet.. I got ~90 shrines I think? Beat every quest I could find..Totally gave up on the Korok seeds after I found out there are like 900 or something ridiculous though . I'm doing what I seem to do with every Zelda game; I get to the final boss then just put off beating it. I find some upgrade or side thing to do every time I pick up the game instead until a year goes by and I finally feel like getting it over with :p.

I missed the dungeons in zelda a little, but I mostly missed getting all the items/tools.. I liked the openness getting the powers right away provided BOTW and changing armor helped; but I really felt getting a sick new tool added a lot to the progression of the older games and made chests feel like a true reward. When you got the Hookshot or the Hero's Bow in Ocarina for the first time that is a moment I'll never forgot. But the thing I missed most in BOTW are instruments.. Link doesn't play anything this time, it bummed me out! I hope the next 3D game incorporates musical tools again.

I was playing Neir: Automata for a while which is really really fun but I got distracted by Mass Effect Andromeda. People have been ragging on it for poor animations in the cutscenes and I have to agree they are janky BUT the game itself is still gorgeous. And most importantly the combat is super fun. People were saying the AI is dumb to the point of being no challenge but I haven't experienced that. The multiplayer missions even Bronze will give some decent challenge for first timers.

I've been playing a lot of multiplayer. It's a lot like Mass effect 3 but more streamlined and has better objectives to make it less of a straight horde mode slog. You have to disable things or assassinate targets for a wave, adds some variety and forces you to work together a little more.

I do miss being able to order your squad mates to use their powers in single player though, I'm not sure why they took that out.. The teammates seem to be programmed to use abilities pretty well... but when you could actively select them it made it so you effectively had extra powers equipped. But I think they are trying to give YOU all the power now. Your character gets power profiles so even though you can only equip 3 powers at a time.. You can have multiple "profiles" each with 3 powers and swap between them.. Turns you into a tactical machine!

Swap to vanguard profile to charge in and out of combat with biotic phase dashes, sending enemies flying with shotguns and nova blasts. Then swap into engineer mode deploying turrets and disrupting armor to take down some heavies while setting up tech combos. Really enjoying the combat so far. Haven't got too far into the game to see if it becomes tedious at all; but I've always been a big mass effect fan so I might be kind of bias. I know the facial expressions can really ruin immersion for some people, but I just find them hilarious.

@Prolusio Andromeda looked pretty sweet. Lots of cool games come out that I just miss and by the time I have enough free time and money, I'm like ehhh not worth it anymore anyway!

I really shouldn't have invested as much time as I did into Zelda until the summer but oh well. I'd been waiting forever. Nintendo games are all the fun and I just play other games to pass the time between the good nintendo games ;)

My switch friendcode is SW-4889-7875-3372 for anyone else who has one. Feel free to add me and post your code!

I didn't get the impression that Persona 5 was aimed at a young audience, but I am a pretty big anime fan so maybe I'm just used to the atmosphere. What made you feel that way @deadheadbill?

I think it definitely has light hearted moments. And being centered around high school life with all the classic anime tropes makes it feel like watching an anime at times. But the first dungeon is a sex slave castle where a king abuses and tortures his "subjects". And one of the very first scenes is your main character attempting to stop a sexual assault.. I thought it deals with some pretty mature themes!

1. The fact that you are playing teenagers in High School, the constant references to "adults" whether it is bad guys or otherwise, all the teenage angst and melodrama, the humor is mostly juvenile, talking cat etc etc.

I can see why people like it, it's just too silly(for lack of a better word) for me.

Edit: I'm not sure the first scene was a sexual assault. I think we are gonna find out more about that as the game progresses? It's not that the themes are not mature, it's just(to me) the way the game addresses them is not.

Thanks for sharing! I didn't get that impression from the game, but I can see how it's style could be too "silly"/ lighthearted/ pg-13? (whatever, I get what you're saying) for some. Definitely has an odd contrast at times, making jokes with a talking cat in the middle of a torture castle. Spending the day fighting things with your powers only to have your friend suggest going for ramen.. THERE'S MYSTERY AFOOT, I THINK WE CAN GET RAMEN LATER!!

I felt the pace of the game is what will turn most people off though. Sometimes you just want to get to the combat and adventure, not spend a week going to drama class and studying. But that's a huge part of the game and almost necessary for progression.. I feel you really gotta be in the mood for some anime/roleplaying to get the most from Persona 5.

Are you going to abandon it @deadheadbill? Or do you think you'll finish it despite it's tone not really hitting the mark for you?

Nah, I'm only at the end of Madarame's palace atm, but I'm going to finish it. The fact that the game just jerks you in whatever direction it wants to at times bothers me more than the social/dailylife aspect and pacing.

It's not that I dislike the game, it just doesn't make me wanna play it every chance I get like Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier or even Resident Evil 7 have recently.

I am really enjoying the Witcher. 12.3 hours in, doing Bloody Baron quest now. After I beat him in Gwent. I love Gwent lol I may sign up for the beta when I'm done with TW3, but guess they have an official Gwent game now and that may scratch my itch I've always liked card games like that whether Pokemon and Digimon as a youngster, Magic as a slightly older youngster, or Hearthstone until they started phasing cards out
