Mine came with the HG2 which are charging now. I didn't get it together to buy them before my zion came. I'm going to order more now. There's info in the tubic thread about a good place to buy them. They are $6 each there.
But make sure you buy extra screens from Ryan. I forgot to do that.

With some help from RBT I have my Zion up and running and named emeth. It is quite lovely and works great. The only thing I would add is some basic instructions. I tend to be slow making sense of things and it's unlikely that most of you would need any help. Still, it's nice to have instructions. It reminds me a bit of a high tech daisy.

And could one of you who has a zion point out where the 0 heat is on the control? And is it safe to leave the batteries in? I always remove them on my milaana.

Definitely worth the wait!!

MADCAP 79 Did you get yours back? (We were consecutive #s with the same problem)

Yes, it is safe to leave the batteries in. It is safe to leave the batteries in the Milaana also, as long as you aren't carrying it in a bag or somehow can have the button accidentally pressed unawares. And now with the Guitar Pic Mod it is likely safe to leave the battery in while carrying, tho that is your decision.

Assuming there hasn't been major changes, on the Zion the dial turned counterclockwise is zero power and turning it clockwise raises the power proportionally. The current setting are likely different than my "old beta" but I think of a clock dial with off at 6:00, my regular setting is about 11:00. If I am after flavor I stay around 6:30.

Everything is in these old posts. This is exactly what I needed.
You need to be giving it some serious power - I'm generally set at 70% plus - to get those instant & tasty, first hit clouds.

And yes, the wood body does give off a slightly glowing feeling of warmth - particularly if sessioning - but in my experience it never gets really hot, or uncomfortable to handle.

Your dial won't go past 50%? :hmm:

Where do you think 50% is on the dial?

This is Vyv with the dial set to minimum power . . .

. . . At roughly 50% . . .

. . . And shown here, set to maximum . . .

ZION POWER!

:borg:

Personally, I would get dry, even low temp hits dialed in before taking it to water :2c:

But I'm sure Aiden will grow to be very happy.

KeepOn.

:peace:

Yes, @little maggie i totally agree! I will probably try and do some YouTube Vids as they are easier to do than copy and ad a quick start guide.

It's funny you say that it remind you of a daisy as during the development it was my benchmark thanks to everyone here for helping Maggie get up and running. I am on Instagram live now pressing Zion parts. I will also be on again between six and eight sanding hope to see you out there.

Another question- I know the info is back about 100 pages somewhere but could someone help: How long do you hold the button in for or does it work the same as the Milaana? The heat stays on with the Zion unlike the Milaana so do you hold it in for a shorter time until you get vapor?
Apparently I knew all this when I initially got my Zion but since I retired my brain has developed memory problems.

You can hold the trigger longer here bc of the power regulation, unless you are really high on the dial I suppose. But think 20-30 seconds if you're no higher than 75% should be fine. Glad you're up and running again finally! No photos? ;)

I'm an end of august 2015 preorder, so not the first wave I guess but probably the second? Am I supposed to fill in this Zion Train form over at the website? Or will I get an email asking for that info?
Yup, you will be second wave of emails. The build is continuous and the "waves" is just a manageable chunk. Each person will be contacted personally prior to shipment.

Hey folks, let's help @little maggie out... So what should the quick start card for Zion say?

Insert batteries with flat bottom to negative terminal.
Compress spring contact with battery end and insert other side.
Insert ground, dry product into the herb chamber and lower Zion female glass onto mouthpiece. Turn upright.
Increase wattage by rotating the knob clockwise. Take test puffs until you reach desired vapor quality. Take multiple draws and slowly rotate knob clockwise until product is fully extracted.

What did I miss?

People should remember that there is no magic x seconds at y power setting. This is how I recommend starting out with your Zion:

Turn the power knob to 50%, heat for 5 seconds, then hit it dry. This is just to establish how warm the 50% power setting feels to you. Next, leave the power at 50%. Load a stem but don't pack it. Hold the power button down, and start taking small test puffs every 2-3 seconds. Note how long it takes before you get a) flavour, and b) visible vapour. This should give you an idea of which way you want to adjust the power setting, if at all.

With fresh batteries, I'd expect to get great flavour and visible vapour after 5-7 seconds. The time it takes to get vapour will depend on the size and density of the load, as well as the distance from the heater and how many times it's been hit already. These are all influenced by how deeply you set the screen in the stem. Because of these variables you need a method to find your sweet spot, and this is the way i do it.

Caution: overloading or packing the load tightly will make it harder to get vapour and tends to cause hot spots. If your power setting is 75% or higher, you can reach combustion before you actually get much noticeable vapour.

Stem packing is subjective. I tamp my bowls enough such that nothing falls when I hold the stem upside down. Never had any combustion event in both my Zions (but had some with the Milaana)

In fact in all my vapes I make a small puck with the load. Don't know if that falls into your "tightly" or not, but since I use the FM tamping tool most of the time, it sure sounds like it.

In conduction vapes packing maximizes heater efficiency and prevents flying plant bits from clogging the mouthpiece screen. In convection vapes it prevents plant bits from falling onto the heater screen.

What are the advantages of not packing? Every time I tried, whatever the device, I liked it less. Might be down to personal taste and/or the way I vape?

I couldn't say without seeing it. If you aren't getting hotspots or reaching combustion, then I guess it's not overpacked. My comment arises from my testing experience and from watching people try to vape overpacked stems. First, they say they're not getting anything, then they pull harder and get a mouthful of smoke. In my case, I was trying tight packs to see if there were hot spots and to try to reach combustion.

Good cannabis is sticky. You don't have to pack it much to make it stay in place. I question the value of packing it with the intent of preventing the load from falling onto the screen, since you pull it up into the stem as soon as you start to inhale. The puck thing is a function of stickiness not packing. Anything that is remotely sticky will form a puck and stay in place; if it is not sticky, no amount of packing will make it stay there.

For convection, loose loads work better because the hot air can reach more of the load. I can't speak to your personal taste or experience. I might be the odd one here, since in all the testing I've done I've always found that loose packing works better even in the devices for which people swear by tightly packed loads (e.g. Pax).

I highly recommend Pak’s suggestions for familiarizing yourself with your Zion. Once you’ve had it in your hand for a couple of days you will realize that it is an extremely easy and controllable vape that you can pretty simply make do whatever you want it to do. So here’s how I use it.

Let me start by saying I have an early beta unit that is likely tuned quite differently from the release version, so my post here should be considered general principles rather than instructions to be directly followed. The beta units were all slightly different on the orientation of the dial, so it was best to speak in percentages of turn or clock positions. For ease of understanding I prefer clock positions.

Zero, or completely counterclockwise, I consider 6 o’clock on the dial, which is the bottom. I actually put a little colored dot there so that I can recall where zero is when I’m looking at the dial. I also put a dot at 180° from that which would be 12 o’clock, and I consider that 100%. The dial continues to about 2:30 and I consider that over drive. To be honest, for flowers, I hardly ever go past one hundred percent because that is combustion territory. I CAN combust anywhere after 11 o’clock but I can also manage a couple of clock hours with draw strength and load specifics. If I leave the setting at 11 o’clock or below I will not combust so I can be pretty comfortable whatever my state or even when I hand my Zion to a friend, that combustion is unlikely if not “impossible”. It is very useful to find this spot on the dial.

I use my Zion mostly with water, and my two favorite stem/adapters from OGB are about 4 inches long and ISO jointed on one side and US jointed on the other. I keep my screen in the US jointed side basket style right at the end of the joint. I suck fill my stems and then scrape off any goods that are over the lip of the stem. I do not tamp it down as I find that the suck fill results in the proper density of load for my purposes.

I tend to start a load by direct drawing on the stem while holding the button at zero or 6 o’clock for outstanding flavor hits. I may turn the dial a half hour or an hour or so but I find any further than this will be past the best flavor. I then set the dial between 10 and 11 o’clock, turn the stem over into a water tool and kill the load at this setting. I have no worry of combusting and I can completely exhaust the load leaving medium dark AVB. I DO stir once or twice during the exhaustion, but mine is an older unit and no turbulator, so my need to stir may be greater than in newer units.

I will have to admit here that sometimes, especially if for whatever reason I am in a hurry to experience effects, I will skip the flavor part and begin at 11 o’clock. While I have truly come to love flavor, something I never experienced while combusting, that is still a secondary reason for me to be consuming cannabis. It is wonderful however to have a vape and makes it so easy to enjoy that aspect of cannabis consumption while still excelling in knocking my block off.
