Anyone try ABV Butter using a Mota Pot?

nihil

Member, Known Well
Do you just add coconut oil in the chamber with water instead of butter? I'm so curious to try it out, but wouldn't like to end up with a less potent product.

The water to oil ratio may in fact be the opposite of what you are thinking. My first batch I used plenty of water and the end product was VERY potent. My second attempt I used less water and it basically ruined the batch.

Another way to look at it.. the oil hold the actives, the water doesn't. So less oil equals more potent end product.

Lastly, I did five runs and poured the hot liquid into a large mixing bowl. Then I let it sit in the fridge for a few hours. The water and oil separate nicely, hardened oil on top and water below. Stab a hole in the oil, drain the filthy water. Give oil a semi warm water bath to remove the crud, chop it up and put it back in the Coconut Oil jar. Microwave sparingly so it settles like when you first purchased it, although it will be brownish rather than white. Done.

Be careful though, my first batch a friend made cookies for me and I decided to try 3 or 4 of them one evening. Not fun and was still "tripping" slightly the next morning. I'm not really an edible guy, so that may have been a factor.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help as well. Makes sense, as you using only a little amount of oil, which will absorb huge amounts of THC(most of the remaining).
Did you run it five times with the same abv? I usually do only one run, but read a while ago about the chance to do more runs.
I've had few self made edibles, and most of the times been tripping for at least 8hrs before falling into deep sleep.
Want to run with coconut to have something to melt in my tea, without adding any sweetener.

No, one run each, five separate loads. I've never run the same ABV twice, I just dump it after it percs.

I personally haven't tried the tea, but a friend did with some oil I gave him. He said it was pleasant.

I also forgot to mention, try sprinkling the ABV on a burrito or peanut butter sandwich.. very potent as well, just tastes like dirty almonds.

Thanks for this other suggestion, but I'll pass on this as it isn't my cup of tea. Tried few times making cookies or just a milkshake and have to say that the little taste of ABV made me feel disgusted, so I'm very sensible to it.
Next time I'll also filter the coconut oil through a cheesecloth before storing it in the fridge, I want it residual free at least.

I bought an aluminum 3 cup version at Big Lots for $6. Haven't tried it yet, but will be trying to do some coconut oil this weekend.

Liking the mix with chocolate idea.

ETA:

Anybody think that this would work with honey, or maybe glycerin, for a cold drinks sweetener? I wonder if the water would be too hard to separate from the honey/glycerin?

Hey everybody, I have been reading through this thread and its interesting indeed. I actually bought a moka pot because of this thread. I do have a question though. Has anyone used a moka or mota pot to "clean" the abv/decarb herb before starting the infusion. I mean put the herb in the chamber and just water at the bottom half and go through 1-3 cycles, before starting the actual infusion.

Which 6 cup models have a basket reducer? I've screwed up a couple of times with the one I currently have so it would be nice to only waste half as much when testing. lol

I have the
Ilsa Slancio Stovetop Espresso Maker 6 Cup

It has a basket reducer and it a great unit but pricey $100. Very high quality stainless steel construction so it should last a lifetime

The one I used was a 3 cup model from Amazon.com --

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000CF3Q6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used 8 gm of avb, ground fine. I got the smaller pot because it takes me so long to accumulate any amount of avb that I would never have enough for the larger pots. Also, the Ilsa Slancio mentioned above was expensive to me for something I wasn't sure was going to be the holy grail anyway. As it is, it worked like a charm!

I've got this 4-cup model https://www.amazon.com/Primula-Stai...sr=8-1&keywords=Primula+Stainless+Steel+4-Cup It holds approx 8 grams too but I don't think I'm using it correctly or its not working right. In the videos I've seen steam doesn't come out of the pressure valve until its almost finished brewing where as mine does this as soon as water/oil starts to enter the upper chamber. Basically stream is shooting out of the pressure valve the whole time the pot is filling...doesn't seem right! I was trying to get the process down with ABV before I switched to bud but after half a dozen runs I'm out of ABV. Take me 2 or 3 days to get enough for another run but I just decarbed an ounce of bud so I'm tempted not to wait.

Might be my burner...seems to get red hot and then cool, over & over, instead of maintaining a consistent heat...fuck IDK! lol

I did not see steam coming out of the pressure valve, just the top of the unit. Maybe your valve is loose? I have a gas stove so I can't answer about your burner, but it might be a factor.

Haven't tried yet and was so curios to know what happens when using coconut oil. I know that with butter, once you pour it in a container and let it sit in the fridge for few hours, the butter will separate from water. Does the same happen with coconut oil? I think I will make this afternoon.

Yes Coconut oil will separate from water the same way butter does. Butter and coconut oil are both high in saturated fats and thus are solids at room temperature. (even more solids in your fridge while water will remain liquid)

Thanks for the tip.
Product just finished to solidify and in the jar. I will freeze half in another glass jar.
Used the following in the coffee maker:
-9.5g of abv
-60ml of water
-100g of coconut oil in the pics(UK brands)

Had 8.5g return of finished and dried product.
I'll need to test the potency in a wake and bake in the morning.

I hope you find the results as nice as I did. I only used the sunflower lecithin in about 1/2 of my batch of chocolate candy since I had not done this before. Three of these little candies is a good dose for me. Interestingly enough, I found that the ones without the lecithin activated within 30 minutes or so on an empty stomach while the ones with lecithin did not fully shine until I ate something with fat in it. Both were quite effective however.

The results are wonderful. I swallowed two spoons yesterday with some aloe Vera water yesterday, and took me to a good 7.
And then made two mini cheesecakes with only 5 spoons, ate one and I'm flying over 9
And the taste is lovely, and I'm disgusted by abv taste.

I used a Ghiradelli dark chocolate, and IMO the taste with the infused coconut oil is superior to the chocolate by itself. As much as I'd like to eat more than 3, I have to hold myself back.

Great thread.
Sorry if it sounds stupid, but I wonder if possible to use alcohol or glycerin instead of oil/butter?
Doable or recipe for kitchen explosion?
Thx

On my personal opinion, I wouldn't. The chamber where the water goes it too close to fire, and you could blow the whole thing easily.

I ran out of fresh bud this morning, so decided to give this a try..and it worked out very, very well :)

I had 16gr AVB, a mixture of Grape God, Cheese and Romulan, which had all been vaped at 195c, so had something left in them.

I'm in the UK and can get Amazon prime now within the hour, so ordered all the bits I needed to make some AVB chocs. basic bialetti 4 cup moka pot, coconut oil, chocolate and silicone moulds...25 min later it arrived and i was making it :)

I crushed the AVB with a spoon in a bowl, and packed it in to the moka - turns out 16gr was the perfect quantity and it filled to the top, tampered slightly.

Then scooped approx. 170gr of the coconut oil into a pyrex measuring jug, and put it in the microwave for 1min30sec to melt.

The oil was poured into the bottom of the moka maker and then topped up with boiled water from the kettle - this left a ratio of approx 1:3 water:oil. Screwed it all together then on to the hob.

The hob is electric and setting it to 6/10 heat was perfect - within a few minutes you could hear it boiling and then the lovely golden/green oil coming out of the top. It took about 10 min in total to finish - when it stopped coming out of the top I left it 3 minutes to cool slightly, and poured it back out into a glass pyrex bowl. The colour was a golden green and consistency was very runny. I also dumped the "puck" of AVB that was left over into a muslin cloth and squeezed out the remaining oil.

Left the bowl in the fridge for 2 hours, by which time it had solidified and separated out. Poured the water away and had a lovely 80gr slab of AVB infused coconut oil :)

Then to the chocolates. I cut the slab of oil into two 40gr pieces, and added one half (40gr) back into the pyrex jug. I then chopped up around 140gr of chocolate (50/50 80% dark and 70% dark with orange), added a splash of milk and put it in the microwave. 30 seconds on high, then stir, then another 30seconds and it was done. A good mix with a spoon and I had molten AVB chocolate.

Then was just a case of pouring into moulds and into the fridge. Then repeated with the other half (this time chilli chocolate!).

I had some left over and no space left so i ate a couple of spoonfuls (this was an hour ago) whilst still liquid. Tasted lovely - nutty and with a hint of spice..very nice.

Now sat on the sofa with a really nice high..maybe a 7..and growing. Very happy with the results and not even eaten a chocolate yet just a couple of spoonfuls of molten chocs.

It's made 35 chocs in total, not sure of the dosage yet but will find out tomorrow. Thanks for the idea OP i'm 1-2 weeks away from any more fresh green so this should fill the gap nicely!

The last time I tried this the pot like exploded . Is my exhaust hole clogged maybe? Perhaps I didn't tighten it enough? It was a bitch to clean up all that oil and my GF was freaking out about her unfinished wood floors. I want to do this again bib have been scared to try.
