@biohacker Thanks!!

I am really interested in making an XLR glass vape. It's easier to stand on the shoulders of giants. The hex-nail is a nice box - smaller than I expected. A nice finish too. (I was lucky to use a very hospitable fc user's setup.)

Bout to be more happy people in this thread.....

Happy human, checking in!
I received my Bloodwood Hexnail a few days back

I was excited for the technical aspect of things, the coil customization, wireless updates, glob mode, etc. but am equally blown away with the beauty of the enclosure- it's simply stunning, without a flaw to be found. It looks amazing, the craftsmanship is impeccable.

I noticed a few small design changes like swapping the rocker switch for the coil port and metal feet. She booted right up and I was off, everything is very intuitive and not clunky at all. The latest software was installed and I had no problems navigating. The improvement in temp stability was very apparent straightaway, especially when low temp cleaning with water but more importantly with larger dabs. Loving the convenience of tailored pre-sets.

I've had limited time with it and am still playing with temps, like others I keep going lower and it seems like I'm tasting some of my current strains for the first time. Also like others, I've been intending to post the last few nights but a bit too much science beforehand! :science:

Still getting to know it so I'm sure there are things I'm not taking advantage of yet but even so I'm very glad to have jumped on this pre-order. Well worth the wait and a great value- thank you, Hexnail team!

Don't think the herbo would work cause that's a 12V device (like a log) but maybe I'm wrong and the Hex-nail can do that!

I gotta say that the new firmware has made all the difference in the world. Presets work, temperature control is excellent, all the interface wonkiness seems to be gone. Id say the platform is finally stable.
That's great to hear! My replacement walnut has reached my city and should hopefully be here today or tomorrow, can't wait to try out the updated interface.

It arrived! I took a test dab at my regular 600F coil temp and it dabbed as I expected except maybe slightly softer. No temperature variance when I touch the unit so far which was the main critical issue on my first box. Compared to the first one, the unit is more "polished" with brass screw feet and cleaner edging around the screen. All UI bugs and issues seem to be gone as well.

My testing is limited during work hours but I'll play around with it over the next few days and try to post a longer review.

Those DS stylus come in handy with the HN hey? Good thing I have a bunch laying around the house from my little ones. Walnut looks nice. It was a hard for me to decide on a wood of choice. Cant wait for mine to be finished.

We are still working on Sublimator compatibility and we don’t think that the change in termination on the newer models will be much of an issues once we can get things for the Sub in general dialed in.
The only thing that's stopped me from dropping the hammer on a Sublimator is the power supply/temperature control. I've been (not so?) patiently waiting for news on the new mobile accessible temperature control that they've been talking about so the Hex-Nail seems perfect if that's going to be a thing. Beautiful little unit, too.

I'm sure you have plans for your own announcements so I won't bother asking for an ETA on the 3.0 Sub heater cable, but I was wondering if it's still worth placing an order. On your site it says that orders placed now are expected to ship Summer 2017. If I do end up waiting for an announcement is there a chance I'll miss that shipment, and if so do you plan on taking preorders for a unit without a coil and with the 3.0 Sub heater cable before that shipment sells out?

After further testing I'm finding 600F to be perfect for me and it performs the same as the Gimido Omron e-nail at that temp so they seem to have the accuracy down now. When I got my first unit I was able to drop the temp by 50F over my D-Nail coil though. I think I'm tasting more of my dab but it's hard to tell until I use it more.

I've started compiling a list of tweaks and suggestions to pass on to @HexNailAva once it's a bit more fleshed out, haven't come across any real bugs so far though which is nice.

That was the stylus they included with it until the fancy wood ones are made. Poop is right, you don't really need it but it's nice to have in case the screen gets finicky.

Any tuning tips youve run across you want to share? Or are you talking about enhancements? The community could totally work on nail optimizations together.
Good idea! These are what I have so far:
  • Allow cleaning preset to go down to 1 min. I find for back to back dabs just letting it reach ~800-900F and then dropping back down is good enough if you're in a hurry.
  • Have it switch to the desired preset while in the middle of cleaning mode. Right now if it's cleaning, pressing the preset buttons does nothing. Manually lowering the temp works but then the cleaning timer continues to count down.

Yepp, a stylus out of wood would be nice. Perhaps with a magnet for placing it at the HN?

We're hoping to add a lot of fun 'fit and finish' stuff like this. And we're definitely hoping to make matching stylus a regular thing in general. Our first rounders will end up getting a fun goody bag when we flesh more of the extras out.

You dont really need the stylus with the latest firmware upgrade. Maybe for putting in a wifi password but that should be about it.

This was what we'd hoped to hear from folks. It's mostly included to networking set up & calibration purposes (though the screens are calibrated as part of the final roll out for shipping).

The community could totally work on nail optimizations together.

We're definitely looking to expand tunings 'with the community' as part of our general platform in the future.

We've been mulling over the idea of some sort of 'rewards program' for folks who submit good nail tunings as more new stuff hits the market. Tinkerers like us would have a lot of fun with it (we hope...lol).

Good idea! These are what I have so far:
  • Allow cleaning preset to go down to 1 min. I find for back to back dabs just letting it reach ~800-900F and then dropping back down is good enough if you're in a hurry.

Any feedback is always appreciated. We definitely like the idea of a 'quick clean' right after as a preset for now. We want to implement a 'post-dab auto-clean' feature once we nail down consistent dab detection that could be tweaked or turned on/off by the user.

Id really like to see, in plain english, what those settings for the PID do. Id like to see an example of how the PID is configured for each nail.
PID and "plain english", isn't that an oxymoron of sorts??? : )

This does tend to be the problem...It's incredibly hard to actually explain what it all does without getting way more into it than most want to ever think about. The ideas are useful for so many different applications that nailing down anything specific in 'plain english' very difficult.

The explanation in the Quick Start Guide PDF is about as close as we've been able to get.

------

Thought I'd also come in an note that software update 1.2.7 is not necessary right now for any customer on 110v power. It's an update that includes tuning tweaks for our friends across the pond.

We're in the process of doing build outs on the next 15 or so units. We received a big batch of enclosures the other day and most of them are just about done with the finishing process.

@HexNailAva Thank you very much for the update!

What do you think when implemention of the Sublimator 2.0 and the NewVape Flower Pot will be done?

Do you need a new Sublimator mini XLR 2.5/3.0 as a loan for your testings?

@HexNailAva Hi Ava, thanks a lot for the update. Great news!

Nice to hear that works on compatibilty of Sub and HN (and FlowerPot ) are going on.

BTW don't forget the Herborizer Ti, the D-Nail Lotus Flower Adapter and the Errlectric Dry Herb Vaporizer Enail ;)

Sure there will be found loaners for too

Don't think the herbo would work cause that's a 12V device (like a log) but maybe I'm wrong and the Hex-nail can do that!

I don't know how the other called devices are working. Is a 12 v device really an issue or even a no go?

Via pm I was told that somebody would loan you an Errlectric Dry Herb Vaporizer Enail for testing.
If you should be interested give a sign.

When using it in coil mode it works great and the nail temp readout is useful for guessing when the nail has stabilized. For dabbing at 600F the nail readout is 418-420F. I tried changing it to nail mode and set it to 420F and just watched it swing like pendulum for 5 minutes always under or over shooting the target temp by 50-100F. How is everyone else's experience when using nail mode?

So I'll stick with coil mode for the time being since I guess there's some bugs to work out in nail mode.
