Flavor vaping techniques

I have a Crafty which is known for providing good flavor; but I learned a new technique for vaping that could be applied to any hybrid vaporizer with extended heat up times. I call it vaping on the slope.

I put enough herb in the Crafty to last two sessions. In the first session I start vaping a few seconds after turn on. I start with 2-3 second draws until I start getting good flavor. Then I lengthen the draws to 5-6 seconds until the vape hits the temperature setting. Since I am vaping as it warms up it takes a bit longer than normal and I get several flavorful draws. I take one draw at temp and turn the Crafty off. I take several more draws as it cools down. The flavor for this session is amazing and the high is less body and more head based.

The second session I vape as normal. I get several draws at temp plus a couple more at boost temp. There is less flavor and the high is good but different.

Many of you have probably figured out special techniques for using your vape. I'd like to hear about them.

Very basic for me, if I want flavor I use temps like 325-350 then increase to 375-430.

Ok, so this thread just made me think of a new vape technology!!

terp dip chambers!!! ( terpene)

have a chamber that holds terp dips and when you vape it pulls a tiny bit of those terps out each time to mix in the vapor!

maybe have it so you could native hit the herb and it's own terps first then flip over to the terp dip path... could keep a flavor session going for a long time and effects too!

Maybe some of the oil vapes are already doing this just not with dry herb in there too... ??

think fertilizer hook ups for a garden hose or pressure washer that adds tiny amounts of solution to the flow..

could work I suppose :)

@zor thanks for the reply. My standard temp is set at 342 and boost at 369, but my most flavorful draws must be below that temp as the Crafty warms up and cools down. I normally vape at those two temps unless I want a really flavorful high. I don't know how that affects the convection versus conduction of my Crafty.

It is all being done for science.

I start vaping with my Mighty at 185C i pull normally 2 or 3 flavorful hits, then move on to 190C for 1 or 2 hits and finally i stay at 195C till the end of the bowl. Great thread @Little Bill ! I will try your technique!!

I have come to appreciate flavor hits more and more over time. Like a couple of people on this thread so far, I often use a Crafty or Mighty. Frankly this used to be an average device for flavor hits as the herb keeps roasting even when you don't draw and also during the warm up. The dosing capsules are a real game changer though!

First of I let the device warm up to the desired temperature and only then put the filled dosing cap inside. This way the material hasn't been roasting during the warm up process and the flavor is truly sublime. If I want more hits like that (and I often do!), I simply toss out the dosing cap between the first few draws so that the heat stops. This would be cumbersome in a group setting, but when I'm by myself I can get several truly tasty flavor hits this way.

Also, you can actually get a nice high from those hits BTW. So much fancy talk about the benefits of terpenes and flavor profiles and yet I think we're still missing out on them for the most part, immediately wanting to chase clouds instead.

My girlfriend has never been a smoker, neither cigarettes nor joints and only imbibes occasionally. It's the flavor hits that make it super easy for her to enjoy the herb from time to time.

My favourite flavour vape is a MFLB running off its power brick. Fast predictable and well known to me. Second fave taste vape my Nano because its fast predictable and well known to me. So the central theme for me on taste is I get the best out of vapes I have the most experience with.

I like the concept of the dosing caps. I got a dosing cap sample but found it really hard to open. I may have to take another look. Thanks.

The best way to preserve flavor is to use a device that allows you to vaporize the whole load in one draw and to reload more often. The terpenes vaporize at around 300F, with a session vape this means the rest of the bowl will be dull, so the faster you can drain a bowl the better the flavor.

My fiancé is the same. She uses an MFLB just for the subtle flavor and a subtle headspace change usually after a couple drinks haha
