Laser Engraved VapCap Tips

You are right, they are not looking so high resoluted as the former ones. It's really a pitty. Guess too that this ones are made just before their laser died. Still waiting for my engraved caps. Hope they dont look like yours. They were made just before the laser died too. That would makes me REALLY unhappy

I'm sure if the engravings don't come out correctly because of 'broken laser' @VapCap will sort you out. They have the best CS I've ever experienced.

They seem to actually want their customers to be happy...;)

Here is the new wonder that was made for me, and I was made for you baby

I introduce to you the Apollo Soyuz Test Mission cap !

(What appears black in the cap is actually ungraved, the grey pattern is what's engraved. Reflection is causing that, and I was too lazy so look at the pic below :ninja:)

For the ones who don't know what it is, here is some history (sorry about my English) :

The Apollo Soyuz Test Mission (1975, during cold war) was created in order to show the world the policy of détente between the two sides by setting up the goal of a hand shake between the US and Soviet commanders in Earth orbit, after the docking process between the Soyuz and the Apollo module.
This means scientific collaboration between both sides, technology and cultural exchanges....

This mission mark the end of the space race and the beginning of space collaboration between nations.
There was many technologic challenges to break and a lot of stuff to learn between the two sides, this mission and the people involved in it (scientists and astronauts) had played a major role in the ease of collaboration during cold war, as long as pushing space technology and methodology to another level.

This cap is very special to me because space is my way of seeing life, my religion... International space collaboration must inspire all the nations because that's the best thing humanity as done, this taught us how insignificant we are and how much they are to discover.
This is how humanity need to work, not like our infinite growth society in a finished world...

@Prolusio @TheVaporist if you like space themed engravings how about a space themed @phattpiggie stem?

I've been contemplating whether this famous pen, designed by Caran d'Ache and called a Caelograph, could be made into a stem? The amount of aluminium inlay could be problematic, especially the individual stars? Could be interesting to see what @phattpiggie could come up with though! Although I hope he takes his time to relax on his holiday and if he reads this he should get back to the beach/bar!!!

@Doktor Dub, thank you a lot, it so precious to me that I think I'll keep it as a relic!

@Prolusio, glad you liked it!
Mission patches was the first thing I was willing to do, finding the one was harder!
The lightsail patch is possible but will require work : convert all colors in black and white (no greyscale), the sail may need some editing, and then invert black and white and it should be good.
But the shape is more a worries, details will be too crushed, and you'll lose th e beauty of. The patch I think...

@VanCough, be careful with that kind of stuff you can kill someone in here with such impressive stuff!
I wasn't aware of this pen, but now I want one....

I was thinking of something similar.

A combination of @phattpiggie's existing black pen style but with some sort of speckling of stars. Don't have a clue though how it would be done.

Awhh man, I didn't even think to get a cap engraved with something space related! Thanks for the idea and nice engraving @TheVaporist! Now I want to find a way to turn this into a cap:

Probably requires some editing because of all the black but man that'd look cool.

@VanCough That is one beautiful pen! I see what you mean about the design being difficult to reproduce.. I feel like the banding and circles on the cap might be possible though. (for a craftsman like pp at least ) And that would look awesome!

@TheVaporist thanks for the image editing tips! They're very similar to the steps I've taken to make lithophanes on my 3d printer; I should be able to make something work..

Except I don't have to, because the kind folks at FC beat me to it :bowdown::love:

@GreenHopper great work on that edit, thanks! That's exactly how I imagined it! But I do see the point @TheVaporist raises about the grayscale being potentially problematic for the engraver now that I can actually look at the image.. I feel like it's possible for an engraver but maybe not when shrunk down to capsize, or with the one Vapcap has.. It sure needs the gray though, that version you produced with it edited out really lost the details.

@Omphaloskeptic!! Yess! I think you found the perfect balance with that edit! So many talented people here in this community.

I hope you fellas don't mind if I save those edits for when Vapcap has the engraver back up and running?!
