My Great Vape Experiment - Exercise and Vaping

If by exercising you mean drinking beer, then yes I exercise while vaked/baked.

But honestly, I rely on bike riding and walking my dogs 2-3 times a day and eating sensibly other thn the munchies.

Great thread. Part of the reason I'm moving to vaping over smoking is the fact I ride my bike anywhere from 10-25 miles per day. I gave up cigs a few years ago which helped a lot, but I started smoking more and more herb and a drop in lung capacity has slowly returned. I'm hoping vaping only will show a marked improvement.

@ hereatlast,

i have also problems with asthma. ive heard, that using mj can help bronchia-expansion and going from smoking to vaping must be a positiv effect on that.

for myself, the opposite is true. i have bronchiacramp most of the time i vape (using a volcano) inside a few minutes. its sometimes so hard, that i have to use my asthmaspray wich isnt the best thing when your high, because it does effect your heartbeat accessorily.

i couldnt test to filter vapor through water because of the bag-system.
did you try it? does it help your bronchia to relax?
i try to get a log-style vape, to hook it on a bong. i think that would help me.

general question:

does using mj (smoked or vaped) help when you have an asthmaattack? or does it just help you before an asthmaattack, so it will not come to a real attack because your lung and bronchia will be relaxed?

this thread is a bit old. hopefully someone could answer my questions. please post your experince if you have asthma.

Hey guys, came across this thread and being a workout enthusiast I thought i would put in my :2c: about exercising and vaping.

Prior to vaping, I combusted occasionally while exercising (not during :p) and it left me with compression in my lungs, which resulted in less than par lifts/runs. I noticed I was noticably more out of breath and being concerned about what goes into my body, I sought out for a new alternative.

I was recently introduced to vaporizing by a buddy of mine and it was like a whole new world. The clean high and no combustion appealed to me. It really hit me today when lifting that I noticed my lungs felt great with no need to gasp for air even when vaping several hours prior to working out. If i had combusted I have no doubt in my mind my lifts would not been up to par. I was very pleased to know that my investment has payed off. :)

interesting experiment. i've always heard that vaporizing is way better for your lungs than combustion, but the strange thing is that vaping makes me cough more than using a pipe. maybe the high temperature is a bit irritating or something.

I read on VaporBuff.com that vapor will nearly always be more irritating than smoke because THC and other cannabinoids are natural lung irritants and vapor is much more potent with them than smoke is. I have been almost exclusively vaporizing for over a year now and on the rare occasions that I smoke I never cough. I assume this is because my lungs are used to the irritating vapor.

This experiment is cool, and I agree that vaporizing is better for exercise :)

I do much better with my weight lifting regime than my Hapkido. Hapkiko takes much more mental concentration and precision on the movements. Weight lifting is just push like hell and I only have to count to 12, but I forget how many sets Ive done. Generally Im not high when doing either one. I wait until night circa 8:00-8:30 when I have nothing else to do.

So vapor is the new hype. Its healthier , cleaner, and more efficient compared to smoking.
think!
Wait, what?

Define efficiency, not to be an arsehole but we need to define our terms and I could go no further.

Efficient compared to smoking - I just don't agree, even vaping almost 100% of the time. A rapid temperature gradient has yet to be replicated in my opinion, it is as much a function of temperature as it is a release of volatile compounds. It's complex, there are ratios and rates of change. I like them all for different reasons and purpoises :2c:

hey guys, I used to love to run 3-5 miles in the woods after smoking a doob. The runs were always
pleasant but not of a good tempo. My red blood cells were carrying carbon monoxide
from combusting instead of just oxygen. Now I run longer, faster, and happier all due to vaporizing. My only running client agrees ( yes I coach privately). The only negative is the couch potato effect from vaping. You have to get up and move before the "slows" set in. I know many "health freaks" who have seen the light
and have been vaping exclusively. HIGHdration is always important. :brow: .

I am actually a fairly competitive tennis player and I am conducting my own kind of experiment too. When I first started using MJ I was smoking it, either through a small glass pipe or joints. I was recovering from a back injury so I was not working out AT ALL during my recovery time, while I smoked/combusted. When I got back to playing, my lungs/cardio were shot!

Once I switched to vaporizing, I have noticed almost no loss in my cardio. In fact, I ran/hiked a 5.2 mile circuit which includes 1200 ft of elevation change(from 1800 ft to 3000 ft) and I feel great, actually. I might be sore tomorrow...after I do my morning cardio tennis workout. :)

Awesome thread. I don't workout at the gym or play a sport competitively, but I've always felt using a vape has had much less of an effect on my lungs and stamina than smoking did, especially doing long hills on my bike on my daily commute. Really interesting to hear the reports from different sports/workouts!

I have been exercising and vaping ever since I started vaping. One thing I noticed over a year ago when I bought my first vape was that my lungs could handle the exercise better vaping than smoking, but I still prefer to wait at least an hour after vaping to hit the gym. I have better focus when I am left with the remnants of a nice buzz rather than being freshly goobered.

Using a bag doesn't stop you from water filtering. If you want to try it without buying another vape, just make an adapter to go from the bag through a bong stem. Fill the bag, attach it to the bong and pull through the bong(water).

I haven't exercised that much since I started vaping, but after going on a few hikes, rock climbing, and mountain biking I can tell I'm getting out of shape. I get way too tired fast. But I think this is due to me not exercising regularly.

After I saw this thread, I finally decided to register to FC lol.

I am an avid runner. I run daily and the distance depends on how my body feels. But ever since I have gotten my vape, I habitually vape some Sativa 15-30 minutes before my runs.

My best runs were usually my longest ones, mainly because I was able to pace myself and relax more than I would normally. However, those are usually from when I vape at lower temps (quicker inhale w/ MFLB). I'm assuming the less cannabinoids that are released, the more I am able to keep my body moving.

I find that once I'm allowed to free my mind, running on the trails are amazing. I feel a lot closer to nature. The atmosphere of the tall redwoods, and chirping birds, and the smell of the forest combined with the powerful herb allows myself to drift off into pure bliss as I soar through the trees without any care.

Before I started vaping, I would usually smoke a nice personal j and go on runs right afterwards. Those runs would always feel great, but anything longer than 40 minutes and my lungs would start suffering.

I have not noticed any slipping progress in my running after vaping. In fact, I have been running on par or even faster than I have been before I started actively smoking. During running camp 2 weeks ago, I have used my vape daily, up to 5 different sessions a day. But everyday I managed to crank out tons of mileage without any negative effects on my running.

Honestly, I think my vape has helped me get into the best shape of my life. At least so far.

[EDIT] (aug 8th, 2001):
I just got back from a 13.1 mile run today. I vaped some Casey Jones 10 mins prior to the run. I was able to pace myself at a great pace and even go slow enough to warm up in the beginning. However, soon I was running pretty quick, going up and down hills, finishing in 90 minutes. My pace was a sub 7 mile pace. Easily one of the best runs I have run ever.

One thing I noticed due to my vaping was that my runner's high kicked in around 55-60 minutes into the run. I'm assuming since the highs are so similar and since my body is used to releasing the endorphins after getting high, the body was able to recognize the runner's high earlier than it used to.

Just went canoeing in my solo cruiser. Good tempo, great work-out, my arms were burning ,and my lungs were not near their max. Was pulling on the LB every 30 mins or so, during the breaks. My stamina has improved since vaping.
I still have to solve the couch potato trick and stay of my ass! Vaping does zone me out, like not moving and staring at nothing. :ko: My cardio-vascular seems much improved.

Hello ! Grimloxx,
Seems that vaping at lower temps will stop couch lock.
Another thread here is all about temps and effects ,
check it out.
I'm running again (2 miles crosscountry) and it feels real easy. :D :ko:

I just added a Vaporpedia entry on that. It's a table of temperatures and effects:

I started my own experiment: I am doing hata yoga after vaping... It feels great! I can point out several advantages... First EQUILIBRIUM!!! It is easier to maintain the poses that require balance, hence a longer and more effective workout. Then of course endurance. I quit smoking recently and I never smoked before excercising but I could feel the shortness of breat still. I am also aware that i tend to do more sets/pses when I vape. So far I've been working out for a week and a half -except for that one day i didnt start right after vaping and lazyness beat me- I've lost almost 4 kilos (dont know what that is in pounds)

Is there any realation with thc and not feeling sore? I've been paying attention to it and I feel like I got less sore since vaping.

because the amount that I could take in 1 bong hit would be 15 hot,dry vape tokes so IME it was more irritating than just 1 smoke hit.
I only vape now with cooling.
15? Wow. You're vape hits must be teeny tiny.

I guess I must be kind odd, because vapor hits has never irritated my throat. But if I hit it thru a bong with just ice, I do find I can take a bigger hit.

But as compared to smoking? I could take 25 hits off of a vape with no irritation, but one hit from my spoon and it burns my throat.

I have an extreme-q, and used to have a volcano. Maybe I am a "chronic smoker" but before the vape, I would easily go through an eighth or more depending on cash of great (very high quality) stuff every day.

When I originally switched to vape it was great and got me very high, but I quickly built a tolerance and was once again just getting a very light-mellow high, even with edibles. I easily hit my vape over 100 times in a single day, and the vape was way too harsh on my throat, almost to the point I couldn't use it (both volcano and extreme-q). I sold the volcano prior to getting the extreme-q, but still couldn't use it nearly as much as I liked because I had to hit so many times my throat eventually just felt dry, burned, and toarn up in general. I now use my extreme-q through my bong, and it's basically the only way I smoke. I am now back to vaping approx. eighth a day, still hitting the vape-bong around 100 times.

The strange thing to me always was that I could easily smoke and get high but could not vape. Probably because when smoking I would get more THC/hit, and just a faster rate of consumption overall. Hitting the vape over and over, especially without water cooling, was just not an option. It ended up being much more harsh than smoke.

Since switching to vape, I have noticed a huge change when exercising / working out. Before I would try not to smoke prior to working out that day, because it would definitely take its toll. Now I vape right before, and even while, working out and don't see any difference.

Just an assumption, but I think maybe the CBD would help with the physical pain, while the THC maybe just gets your mind off of it. Not that it's less sore, you're just thinking about it less.

Just a thought though
