Discontinued The Grasshopper

I'm REALLY impressed with your work, but for me I think I'll leave it to ghl. That's the beauty of a lifetime warranty!

Honestly the screen removal is something they should have in the manual it's hardly a service GHL would be intending to provide to everyone.

The way this thing is designed it's going to need to be done on a regular basis. Shipping back to GHL for "a free service" isn't really viable.

I still don't even know if this fixes my issues I will be giving it a full 24 hours before I attempt a test run.

Firstly, thank you very much for sharing those awesome pics with us bud.

Amazing amounts of crud there under the screen. I was not expecting to see all that gunk there, this is definitely a design issue if the user isn't intended to be able to clean behind that screen.

I think this 'behind the screen cleaning' may well be a question for the HL blog.

I took a VapCap Ti CCD screen and dropped it into the Hoppers Oven and it fits like a glove. I'm wondering if it would be worth stuffing some hemp fiber in there, then the Ti CCD and finally the material to be vaped. I do a similar mod for my VapCap and it really helps to keep that vape clean.

It would certainly stop the kief from falling back toward the oven. However I can see it beeing a bit fiddly and no matter how you slice it, it would basically be a work around for what is evidently a design flaw.

I'll have a play over the weekend and see if it works or not, I can imagine the screen falling out each time the material is replaced, if thats the case then this would just be too annoying to work.

This is what a Ti CCD looks like:

I noticed when I swapped the battery on my new hopper, the one that came installed in the hopper has a small puncture in the insulation (very small). Anything to be worried about?

I used my SS GH just once! (other than the time test) And I used the coarsest shred for the bowl. It's DEAD....sensors....cop lights every time I click it on.... I REALLY hope that HL will just send out a replacement body. WTF did they do to my body???

Down to 2 GH's both ti... both used twice since arrival.... I hope for no more surprises tonight!

Decided before I RMA my hopper to give it a thorough examination. Never taken the screen of the oven off before so I thought why not?

Look at this horrid shit I found?

No wonder my sensors are fucked?

For the record taking the screen out was easier than the MP screen. I will from now on be adding the oven screen to my heavy cleans routine.

I don't even know how this shit got there? I 9/10 times have my hopper upright in the D3D pyramid stand and only invert to fill or store after the unit has cooled.

Going to clean this up and laugh my arse off if this fixes my issue and I end the day with two working hoppers!

It doesn't matter. You should ALWAYS be completely disassembling your vaporizer to clean it regularly. If you don't you will not get optimal performance. I'm not saying this to be rude to you, I'm saying it just in general for EVERYONE's sake.

@Gramin.....Nahhhh....would not recommend that. The sooting if any is from abient air (dirty air) oxidation,.
being exposed to a high heat source and or contact points.
Like the treads being screwed on with such a finely machined tolerances will create a heated
friction fit....therefore the goo? I think....

CANNABIS.....Cluster Headache....ReNew....Mission. Good to-Go!!!

I would just put a piece of black electrical tape around the circumference of the battery at that spot.

Got it back to life, briefly...... back to cop lights, then good, back to you know the drill. So it seems that blowing into the heater hard brings it back to life. There is no way there is build up because this hopper is 2 months old and has barely been used due to the previous bad back end. But it's weird, works pretty good empty, but as soon as I fill it up it will go wonky. Sometimes it works, then reload the bowl and cop lights. I dunno, i'll keep trying but still have RMA'd.

I really missed the GH vape signature!

Shit dude, not quite the warranty play out hoped for...

ABV in the unit is pretty bad, q-tip fluff is too slack, marking units and sending out poorly tested components is a good way to go broke.
Very average, these guys should swap the cannabis used for testing to passion flower or mugwort and get their shit together.

I'm yet to post my blue unit off for its straight to blue issue, but I'm even more reluctant now.
I'm also hoping to time it so I can get it sent back with some WPAs, which according to the email from Caroline I just got, it's no problem, although the WPAs are due to be released "early March"... The release is coming soon, price TBA

FWIW my straight to blue issue acts like your cop lights regarding blowing into the device and having it work empty but not after its filled.
It's either Murphy's Law or latent heat being sapped by the herbs thermal mass and fucking with the sensor computing.

I'm tempted to pop the screen out to have a look, but I can see under the screen that there's not much to clean away.
Definitely the biggest downside with this device, they should have shipped screen tools with the unit. A 10c tool would have potentially saved them a fuck tonne in shipping back cleaned devices and then also, replacing parts on the spot when the dodgy component just needed cleaning and then not receiving the return...
These guys are doing well to stay afloat I'm afraid

This vaporizer still has more pros than most other vapes. Most other portables have similar issues that even get worse IMO with clogs and what not.
The warranty stuff and just the general running of these kickstarter companies is why I avoid these projects. There is a difference between creating a great idea, and having the expertise as a business person to bring it to market.

I've been waiting patiently for everything to be ironed out since I already have 2 great vapes. I'm hoping that it won't be long now. Hopefully by the time I order they realize this screen issue and have a good fix/way to take it out in place.

I see the WPA blog post, I don't get it though. I thought the grasshopper fit the 14MM naturally?

Yes, it is a wonderful vape when it works, as anyone will say. Relatively speaking it might not have more issues than other options - but it does have flaws that can't be addressed without a design refresh.
As the market sits, it's still worth owning one knowing the reality of inevitable service intervals. But it's not the be all and end all that it so nearly is.

I'm content for the time being, though it takes two to tango.

The diameter of the hopper is 14mm, the WPA has a scientific 14/23 tapered joint. This will mean true air-tight and secure fitting to glass pieces.

Hands free usage with glass will be a good improvement, plus it gives the option of fitting a hydratube directly to the pen for example, it will make it much better for portability and allows an air-tight seal without silicone

When will these clowns learn? Stop making false projections...is it so difficult?

Wow that's so weird! That's exactly what happens.... but i've given up and put it away, fortunately both my older grey ti and newer raw ti are working perfectly.... so far so good.

Yeah, but for how long? They really better iron out these issues otherwise they will drown fast, lifetime warranty or not IMO.

I also got my Grasshopper back from warranty today. It appears to be the exact same Ti unit, with the same scuffs as before. Luckily for me, everything came back clean and exactly how I sent it out, unlike @biohacker. That's really messed up they would send them across customs with ABV crumbs in them.

So far it's working like a champ again, no more cop lights for now. I sent it in with a GHB1 battery. Last time I did that, in October, they sent a GHB2 back in place of it. This time they sent the same GHB1 back. I was hoping they might replace the battery this time too but it's not a big deal.

Hey, Molten... have you vaped other herbs with the hopper? I've been considering that, just looking for some hearing about anyone's experiences with that... ...
I purchased my first Grasshopper from VapoShop and they sent some free peppermint with it.

I vaped it with my E-Nano because I could clean the stem easily. I'm glad I did because it made the stem taste like peppermint until I cleaned it.

I haven't tried vaporizing other herbs, but I would be careful because it could possibly taint the flavor for a long time. This is probably a bigger problem with conduction vapes and ceramic ovens. The stainless steel chamber of the Grasshopper doesn't seem to pick up much residual odor or flavor, but I would still advise caution.

If you have two Grasshoppers you could always make one a "legit" hopper. Carry both, and if you get caught in a compromising situation pull the old switcheroo!
