Witches across the country gathered together at midnight on Friday to cast a spell on President Donald Trump seeking to remove him from office.
The witches have pledged to cast a spell under each crescent moon until Trump is no longer president. The next few crescent moons are said to take place March 26, April 24 and May 23.

Wonderful. Celebrating cursing our President is truly exemplary of American democracy and peaceful transfer of power in action. We should teach this is civics classes for kids. sigh

With everything the president has said and done over the last 2 years, i think the witches can do whatever they wish to do. We still live in a free country. For how long really not sure? I put that article up as something funny not an attack. Some of us need something funny rather than being so serious.
I don't believe that the witches will be able to help, either will praying to God. Everything seems to be in control from our president. Not trying to cause an argument with the above post. Just let it go, a little levity is all I was going for.

It's a win win for all of us if our president is successful, but in a wise, thoughtful, dignifying, presidential way. Our military is beyond reproach - they serve and protect. Most of us support, respect and even love what the military does for us. That's never been an issue for me. My dad, brothers and uncle were all in the military.

Hi Carol - I didn't necessarily want to indicate that I thought that YOU thought the witches thing was serious. But between your post, lwien's support, and the constant, almost continuous, whine about the outcome of the election from various sources....well then yes, I still think its worthwhile for each of us to individually evaluate our recent behavior and expressions and see if that's something we really would want to teach in a Civics or Social Studies class.
I fear not.
I did serve in the military at a time of war and when people were definitely NOT being thanked for our service. I didn't support the policy that resulted in that war then nor now, but the men and women of our armed services effect policy, they don't make it. However, each and every person in the military needs, at some point, to come to grips with why they are willing to lay down their lives, if necessary, for their fellow citizens and our nation. What is it that's so valuable and important?
I have often over the years, living both here and abroad, thought about what did indeed make the USA worth defending with my life. What makes our country different and valuable and worth preserving and fighting for. Nobody needs or wants to hear all of my personal values...that's like a real "who cares". LOL
But certainly VERY high on my list of what makes America different and great is the history of peaceful transfer of power via democracy, either direct or representative. Our 200 year history of this is almost (maybe certainly) unprecedented in all of the world.
So yeah, I'm getting a bit weary tired people hoping and wishing...sometimes quite gleefully....that our current Presidency fails in pretty much every manner or form.
Just how I feel about it.
So, I see where lwien also indicated his post was of humorous intent. So, I'm NOT (fixed that up LOL) looking to pick a fight or argument so yeah....let's just let it go.

In all fairness the title of the article is very misleading. Edit: I thought the article title used the word "curse" but it does not. The article's title is actually fair and accurate.
Reading the article makes it clear that they did not put a curse on him, it was a binding spell:
I don't see what wrong with those ideals, but that's just my opinion. I do agree we need to accept Trump as our president whether we like it or not, but the spell is only intended to minimize the harm he does while in office.
To me this is about free speech, and I do believe that teaching kids to exercise their free speech in the way they see fit should be an important focus of civics classes. I try to stay out of discussions of politics here, but I feel strongly about the issue of free speech so I had to chime in.
I do want to sincerely thank you for your military service @Baron23. I have the utmost respect for those that serve our country and protect our freedoms.

I assume you are an American citizen....right?
If so, did you not ever take civics or social studies in high school.
The Presidential Election is, and has ALWAYS been, a representative election mediated by the electoral college. Now, if you don't like that...please feel free to participate in changes to our constitution via the constitutional amendment process. We do have one, you know?
But in the mean time, this election result was entirely and completely in accordance with American democratic structure and process.
You may be interested to know that the Senate is also not really a direct representation insofar as each state, no matter its population, still have two seats only to fill in the Senate. This was done, by the founding fathers, apparent on purpose. Can you imagine a reason why?

Baron, I know you keep putting up that dead horse smilie a lot lately but it ain't gonna go away. It's gonna take a beating for the next four years, and in my opinion, it deserves every bit of it.
I, for one, believe that EVERY president deserves to have their feet held to the fire and be held accountable for everything that they do and say and if that equates to beating a dead horse, so be it.
Oh, and trying to silence those that are putting your feet to the fire by calling them enemies of the people and trying to humiliate them from your bully pulpit will only do one thing and that is fan the flames of those that are holding your feet.
Oh, and for the record, I never did like this whole electoral college thing and this goes back wayyyyyy before Trump.

As a new member, I came to this thread for its intended entertainment value. A place where one can get a chuckle out of some strange news from around the globe and forget about their physical limitations for a while.

And if you have objected to the electoral college for a very long time, may I trust have you expressed this via exercising your franchise as a citizen on this issue through our democracy? Perhaps by supporting a constitutional amendment (the 12th amendment seems to be the area of concern, yeah?) I seem to remember very little (well, actually nothing) about the electoral college and the possibility for a minority Presidency from the liberal party until they lost....NOW its a big issue. Rather like Reid pulling the nuclear option but now Dems are whining that they are being run over during confirmation hearings. The hypocrisy is astounding. Sad really.
There have been five minority Presidents in our history:
- 1824: John Quincy Adams
- 1876: Rutherford B. Hayes
- 1888: Benjamin Harrison
- 2000: George W. Bush
- 2016: Donald Trump
Western civilization seems to have survived these travesties of democracy just fine.
@Havelock Vetenari - insofar as you are not an American citizen, I just don't have the words to properly describe how little I care about your opinion on our American political system and its institutions and processes. The Netherlands still has aristocracy, FFS. A quick google search seems to show that you Dutch should have enough on your plate with your own domestic issues.

The 20-foot long body, which appeared to be covered in white hair, was found earlier this week.
Locals were perplexed as to what the creature could be - and as images of the carcass appeared online social media was rife with outlandish speculation.
It's definitely not a giant dog.
Some suggested it could be a seacow, while others speculated - not entirely seriously - that it could be a giant shitzu of "that creature from The Neverending Story".
Locals speculated that the creature may have been killed by a recent earthquake, but researchers now believe it was hit by a ship.
Regional officials have now issued a statement saying that personnel from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources had determined that the creature was a whale, but they have so far been unable to determine what type due to its advance decomposition.
