Vaporizing, Bronchitis, and Asthma

After vaping for 2-3 days, I cough persistently for about a week. I feel lung tightness, I wheeze (especially when I lay down) and I cough up mucus. These symptoms are not felt while I am high (which makes me believe it it some sort of lung inflammation) and do not reoccur after I have stopped vaping cannabis for an extended period (1-2 weeks).

When I am wheezing, I sound like a cigarette chain smoker. I am really concerned about this.

I've vaped the same cannabis and with the same vaporizers with other people, and they do not experience the same issues that I do.

It's gone to the point where I have a hard time getting to sleep.

Advice?

This has happened to my girlfriend. Although yours sounds more serious. She keeps vaping though. And to make it easier on herself she filters it through a bong with ice. The colder the better for her.

first off, if its persistant, you should go to the doctor and see what they say.

Everyone's lungs aren't the same. I had asthmatic bronchitis as a kid, and my lungs couldn't take smoke any more some years ago, and vapor kept me from having to give up herb. If I do a fairly heavy session with the SSV, my lungs feel a little tight the next day. With PD use only, I don't get that. So I'd suggest maybe easing up on the vapor hits. Take smaller hits that are easier for your lungs to handle. That should make some difference at least.

To make the coughing a bit better I like to put a menthol honey lemon cough drop, which can be bought in generic form from most grocery stores, on my tongue while I take the hit. It seems to help quite a bit when im sick, but i do not have bronchial asthma.

Get a BIG ass padded box, and mail me all of your vapes.
You will sleep better at night knowing that your vapes are in good hands (mine) :brow:

I think the cooling of the vapor might be a start to look at honestly.

May be that what you experience is not because of the vapors. Can be that you inhale microscopic particles of the weed itself.

Try to add some type of filter to the mouth piece, Take few layers of tissue and insert them into the mouth piece. The center of the tissue should be inserted deep into the piece and the corners of the tissue should be outside wraped around the piece.

After smoking for 20 years, only recently I have discovered that the water in the bong is what causes the tightness in the chest as some of you experienced. I have removed the water from the bong and stacked 5-6 layers of tissue inside the bottleneck. The tightness was gone the next day and never come back for the past year.

Hope this hepls.

I used a dry vaporstar bong for about a year and cut back severely on my coughing as compared to when I smoked, but when I bought and started using my genie as my (temporarily) only vape, I started wheezing A LOT. Like, I woke up in the morning coughing so hard from the weight on my chest that i felt like i was going to ulcer my stomach.

Ended up getting a new bong for my vaporstar, one I use with an ashcatcher and water, and I'm back to normal. Still puff the genie, but use it roughly half the time.

Personally I'd say it was the particulates; my own experience with my dry vaporstar-bong resulted in warm/hot air, but the particulated all smashed and stuck to the glass in the bong. With my pipe I'm definitley breathing it in; i can feel it sometimes.

Heat and Particulates can both irritate the bronchial stuff, but unless the mucus is yellow or god forbid green, then don't chalk it up to any more than temporary damage. Hope you can fix the wheezing problem, but at any rate I wouldn't worry too much about the ramifications of said wheezing.

One suggestion, since I have the same problem, but dont have the benefit of being able to go to the doctor since I am broke as hell and have no insurance is, I seem to have much more of a problem when I already am having chest congestion or allergies. If I'm not it is a much easier time. Now, I am vaping with a Vapor Brothers box, and have not tried the other versions of vaping with the cooling effect and have no idea whether it would help or not. All i can suggest is to put a piece of cloth over the end of the mouthpiece and see if its just because you are still inhaling some particles of weed. Or perhaps you could have an allergy to THC itself, in which case, i would bust out crying, because i might. I am saving up to go to an allergist and perhaps after that I will have a better understanding of what is going on and i can post more useful information.

Try making a tincture or brownies? :peace:

Upon further investigation, I tried the piece of thin cloth over the mouth piece, and I am breathing wonderfully, but I also took an antihistamine and some cough medicine. Perhaps that is the right combination for me for when having chest congestion prior to vaporizing, but if this sounds akin to what you deal with, maybe it will do you some good as well. It's worth a shot anyway. Good luck <3 :peace:

I've had asthma & nasal allergies since I was a child. This was pretty much the only reason I've rarely smoked anything in my life. Even dry vapor can effect me if the temps are too high. This is the reason I started vaping through water. You don't want to use any ice, as cool dry air will irritate the airways. Warm moist air is the best. Make sure you use clean water. I use bottled distilled or filtered tap.

I recently moved to a city with high levels of airborne allergens and had to see an allergist. I took the prick test for 40 or so controls but did not test positive on any. I did show improvement after a bronchodilator treatment so I'm asthmatic. Never had breathing problems the 29 years of my life until now. I think the hot dry air of my MFLB is exacerbating the asthma and I am experiencing wheezing, worst at morning and at night when lying down.

How can I hook up my LB to filter through warm water?

i have experienced the same thing,i use ventillin and flovent usually work fine, but when the winter comes my lungs are done. So i was using my vaporizer and started getting a tight chest,i thought vaping would help but not really,i mean after a while my lungs feel better. I do have allergies everyday and now i always wake up with asthma too. Hopefully i can make it through the winter, when summer comes,i can rip gram bowls like no tommorow.

Hi there, i suffer from moderate Asthma & normally stick to edible brownies-, i just got my first Vape from ebay U.K & it is a Chinese made standard looking Vape with a digi readout,
Trouble is it still seems to agitate my Asthma when set to 200c, any other Asthmatics out there?

if you have asthma you definitely want to run the vapor through water.

its much less irritating than dry hot vapor.

you'd also definitely want to stick to lower temperatures

also get a vaporizer that isnt a piece of crap also one that has a CLEAN airpath and vaporpath, and run it through water too and take it easy on trying to get large hits.

I occasionally get asthma attacks after a good vape session. Strange that it is a bronchodialator yet still causes bouts of asthma attacks in me.

My asthma was never as bad as it was until I started vaping, but correlation does not prove causation. I do wonder though...

^ I wouldn't put too much faith in the numbers on your temperature read out- just use them as an indicator (ie 200 probably doesn't mean 200 C at all). just find your sweet spot/range.

My partner suffers from asthma and she's always preferred to start at a very low temp and very slowly increase it as she vapes- it's a very slow style of vaporising, but it gets the most hits per load and is apparently gentler on the lungs.

i was diagnosed with asthma, but i was able to stop taking the meds so it probably isn't. But i can't smoke the herb without a reaction, but have no problems using my vape. my normal heater temp is 182F, rising to 187F for the last several hits.

I would agree with SD_Haze and suggest trying water filtration for a smoother vapor hit. Also I'm thinking that a bag method vaporizer might help to cool the vapor some before inhalation. And of course a higher quality unit wouldn't hurt to help produce better vapor.
