All the numbers ring to Bruce. He has been ill and may still be. I know its gonna take a while to get your Ion repaired due to new rules in the process. They have to attempt a repair on your broken Ion before they will send you a new one now. Sucks I know.

Thanks ccroller, I'm fine with that method of warranty repair/replacement; a few weeks to sort it out is cool with me. I'd feel better though if the website and phones worked, I can't pull up the site let alone print out the warranty repair form.... kinda gives me that empty feeling ya' know? :( especially since I didn't write down the phone number thinking it'd be available on the net.

My Ion fell off a two story building!

I had my brand new Zephyr Ion on the balcony because it was so cramped and I figured i'd just go back and blow bags so no worries. Well one dumbass frollicked over there and somehow knocked it off the edge and the cord ripped out and down it went. It smashed concrete and the bottom popped off so the electronics and pump popped out. And the top lid part snapped and half of it cracked off... Basically its not gonna work and the guy is shady and probably can never get the money and I dont really know him. Well thats another problem but anyways since I sold all my old vapes to get this I'm kinda screwed. I'm guessing the warranty wont accept this....so I dont know what to do. Is the parts replaceable from normal hardware stores or am I screwed?

Modnote: Moved/merged.

I doubt that is covered under warranty but they could probably repair it for around 150.00... worth a shot.

Oh maybe but this model is beyond the point of repair I think because the actual casing is just destroyed. But if they do a $150 repair service that would be worth a shot. I think Bruce is still sick though sadly so I'm gonna have to wait.

What happened to Zephyr?

I make this last post as Bruce@Zephyr strictly of my own free will to clear up what is going on and without the say so, ok, knowledge or prompting from Zephyr Vaporizers.

I am Bruce and I worked as the sales and marketing director for Zephyr.
I also took care of all customer service. I like to think I did an adequate job till recently.
I started with Zephyr in late 2009 and that lasted till December, 28 2010.
In that time Zephyr has exhibited a very strong commitment to their customers and their employees. The owners are not shifty fly by night guys trying to make a quick buck. They are first, vaporizer users and second owners of a vaporizer company trying to make a vaporizer they would like to use themselves. Yes, Zephyr has had production issues, software delays and the never appearing whip. None of this was due to malice, merely having to conduct business and finding out along the way that some things take longer and are harder to achieve than first anticipated. New business with a new product in a new industry.
Whenever I had dealings with the owners of Zephyr they were always upfront with me and I did get the feeling that they wanted to provide a great product at a reasonable price. They backed up my customer service decisions trying to make returns and repairs as easy and seamless as possible. They allowed me to send replacements to people based on the customers say-so that their unit was defective. Never tried to make an issue the customers fault. Zephyr allowed me to let customers open their machines to fix pump issues without voiding the customer warranty. As time went on, Zephyr realized that the defective units being replacing were not getting returned, so, they had to change policy. The defective unit would now be returned first and then a replacement would be sent. Then the zephyr legal team tells them that they have to attempt a repair on the initial unit the customer sends back prior to sending a replacement. Understandable but creates delays in shipping.
I was in and out of work November and most of December for personal reasons that are, frankly, personal. The new policy of repair prior to return was set down in my absence.

As of Tuesday December 28 at 6pm EST I learned US Customs closed Zephyr bank accounts and raided the warehouses. All Zephyrs Ions in house have been seized, including defective units and spare parts. Since I only (used to) work for Zephyr and am not an owner, I know no other details and can not speak on behalf of Zephyr. I do not know any specific charge, reasoning or any other information. I am now jobless. I do believe that Zephyr has not released this info yet but plans to do everything legally within their power to keep open. I believe that if they can clear up whatever the legal issue may be, they will still send replacements for any units that have been sent in. Zephyr has record of all of the defective units and would not screw over anyone deliberately. IMHO US Customs screwed us all, but that is all I know about that for now.

I put all this down in writing because it is in fact all I know to date, asking me for further details is moot because I know nothing more than I have already said, I am no longer employed by Zephyr, US Customs can screw up the start of a new year.

I would go back to work for Zephyr in a heart-beat if they can clear their legal issues and would have me.

All of this being said, I am sorry for everyone that it affects and I wish there was some way I could help. I hope those of you who feel you have been shafted understand the situation. Don't have to like it, I sure don't, but I hope this helps you to understand. Some of you have stood up for my personal integrity and I appreciate that. Your wishes for my well being are also appreciated.

As for me personally, you will now be able to find me on here (fuck combustion) as "Vapenstien's Monster", I have used this as my personal account so I could discuss things not Zephyr related, feel free to look me up and note I never used it to shill zephyr or bad mouth any other vape.

I do have a personal plan for the future that could impact the industry in a positive way and would be happy to share it with anyone interested.

mod note: Thread is open for posting about the Ion, not Zephyr's problems with Customs. You can do that here.

vtac,
I have a unit that only puts out one temperature no matter what the readout says. Is there a way for me to fix this? Is there scematics or a solution? Or is it a defective part that needs replacing? Thanks.

Wasn't this thread called something like "The Official Zephyr Vaporizer..." or something thread? Now its just called "Zephyr Ion"... why did the whole thread name go and change? I didn't even know they could do that.

ANyway, I just did a google search for Zephyr's website cuz I was going to order some replacement bits, and I didn't see any website. Finally I got http://zephyrionvaporizer.net/ to come up, but there is this very ominous message on their site.

"Zephyr Ion Vaporizer: The hottest new vaporizer on the planet!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ZEPHYR ION IS NO LONGER FOR SALE. WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER FOR SOME TIME AND PRODUCT IS UNAVAILABLE. THE TELEPHONE NUMBER WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO CONTACT THE FACTORY IS 1-888-393-7497."

That doesn't seem to send positive messages about the stability of Zephyr to any potential customers. And I still cant seem to find the original Zephyr site with the sign-up for software. I'm going to have to go digging back in this thread for that.

On the other hand, Amazon is selling them for $218. Much lower than the $360 MSRP it sells for at online head shops. Which gives me pause - how did that happen? Its lower than most of the $240 deals on ebay.

Things are seeming a bit strange. A whip that seems like vaporware. Software that isn't developed. The company website disappearing. Other websites saying they can't contact the manufacturer. Amazon lowball offers. What's going on around here? Is Zephyr going through some tough times?

Derf,
I have a question. I got my used from Amazon for 200$. The first day, it stayed the same temp no matter what. I put it at 100 and 440. No change. The next morning , it works. I like it. It is much better for me then the silver surfer. But I am worried that if I have future problems, the company might be out of bisiness and not be able to fix it. I can return it for all but the shipping. But I won't be able to afford a bag type vaporizer. Should I return it? It looks solid and is producing great vapor right now. I also want to give Bruce a shout out for privatly repling to my email incredably quick.

Should I gamble and buy some extra parts?

I can only offer my humble advice.

1) if you love a bag vape, keep it. This is one of the best vapes I've ever seen or used. Yes, Zephyr may be closing its doors, so you wont have much future warranty support through them (maybe through Bruce?).
2) I've had two problems with mine. 1 related to the hoses popping off the nipples internally. Fixable for sure, but a bit of a pain. 2 related to a damaged circuit board (which could have been from me opening it up for all I know.). Other than that, I can't see too much failing in these units. Maybe the internal heater will eventually die like in some of my other vapes, but that seems to be par for the course over a couple of years. Bruce would be a better person to ask about the failure rate, but I believe it to be low for the number of products they have sold. Your odds of a catastrophic failure may be low, and if so then your odds of many happy years ahead are good.
3) there aren't really that many parts to purchase to insure for a working system. You can buy consumables like bags and o-rings, but these wont be the items that prevent you from using your ION. I might stock up on the internal o-rings under the lid. After a couple of months they turn stick brown, and you'll want to replace it I think.

If its working I would vote to keep it. If you have something glitchy with the temp not adjusting / working, maybe return it... and consider getting one from somewhere else! :o)

Derf,
Well I am going to keep it. But I am wondering if I am doing something wrong. I am not getting as euphoric a buzz than with a bong. I grind my bud with a coffee grinder. Add about .5 gram to the ion and get two bags at 360 and 2 bags at 380. Normally a .5 gram will get me pretty good. But I don't get the same buzz with the Ion. Am I doing something wrong?

Does anyone know a good place to get Ion parts?

Awww, this thread is about the exact opposite of what I wanted to read. My zephyr has ceased functioning and now it sounds like I shouldn't hold my breath waiting to return it. Urgh.

If there's no hope of returning, I guess I'll feel free to open it up. Has anyone actually fixed one of these on your own? My problem: it didn't turn on a couple times, then would start up when I moved it. Now it won't turn on at all. I'm thinking some sort of loose connection. Maybe? Any advice, at all?

Urgh. Thanks for any help, I really do appreciate and need it!

If euphoria for you is the wasted, couchlock feeling you get with smoke, then you're not gonna be satisfied with vapor. Vapor is a much cleaner, truer high. You're getting the cannabis compounds while avoiding most of the smoke byproducts (think toxins). If you were to vaporize, then inhale some carbon monoxide, you'd be getting much closer to the smoke high. If you want to give vapor a good try, stick with it for a week and don't smoke. The nice thing about vaporizing is that you can choose your effect by staying low to mid temp, for a cleaner, more energetic effect, or going with high temps, near combustion, to get closer to the smoke high. 360-380 F is low to mid range, temp wise.

Use my Temp guide, I have been very happy with it!

temp 320, 338, 357,[366+ Tired] 374, 428

357 - No sedative effects. Heady, not stoney,
so it's perfect for when you have to do shit or be around people. Also the most efficient (get more bags out of less), high lasts the longest, and tastes)

366 - 1st sedative kicks in. Active high, with just a little bit of stone

375 - 2 more sedatives kick in. This will put you on your ass.

440 - Another 2 sedatives. This will put you to sleep. !

Guide (Key)
AI=anti inflammatory
E=Euphoriant
AN=analgesic
AE=antiemetic (anti nausea)
AX=anxiolytic
AS=antipsychotic
BD=bronchodilator
AD=antidepressant
SE=sedative

I would not buy a zephyr at this time for nothing. Parts/accessories you cant get like the nipples. With that said, I love mine but im on last nipple. lol.

my dh has recently had the pipe dream of starting a mobile vape repair service. Ya know, like an appliance dude that comes to your house, but instead of fixing the washer, they fix your vape. :brow:

i wouldn't think that there is a big enough market locally, but shit, maybe this is the time for that!

Thanks for the advice. Does the 428 temp hurt the bags at all? Do you use seperate bags for high temp vapes? Can you use other bags, like maybe surgical bags?

You can take it all the way up to 440 and it will not hurt your bags or the ION.

Optex, Bruce no longer works for Zephyr.

Regarding spare parts ive had no luck in finding the nipples and O rings and I tried immediately upon finding out. Bags are plenty and you can use tokeez bags if you cant find zephyr bags.
