How common are those Commodore VL in Aus these days, the ones with the RB30 in them?

FWIW, I was a Subaru guy pretty much all my life. Grew up in a subie wagon, first car i ever bought was a rusted-out '81 GL wagon, and I pretty much kept it going.

Had one of the first WRX wagons in California back in 2001, beat the hell out of that poor EJ20T. Replaced it with something that looks a whole lot like that picture you were looking at, a 2008 Forester Sport XT. 2.5 turbo, so I had a bit more torque before it spooled, but ridiculously short gearing. 1st was a joke, 2nd got me through the intersection, and the damn thing spun 4k RPM going 75 on the freeway. Fun as hell, though, even with that goddamn tractor transmission subaru used on their 5MTs.

It threw a real expensive CEL in 2015 and now I drive a GTI. Apparently Subaru's not into small fast hatchbacks anymore, but I like my VW just fine these days.

My Hero car was the Lancia Delta Integrale!
Set racing car back in the day and looked super mean as well!!
My favorite racing car when I was a kid!

The true OG WRX but way more exotic & special. One of my top hero cars & up there with the Pug 205 Gti & the HDT Commodores.

This is also my hero car.... I know a man who owns a really nice example of the integrale evo, he wants 30k for it, and I'm thinking about 30k debt.....

I would say do it but that is fucking expensive for the UK. There are a couple on carsales.com.au. A unreal looking 88 HF Integrale for only $60k & an original 87 HF Delta 4WD for $17k. I fucking wish I had room for a 2nd car but I park on the street as it is.

Rare as rocking horse shit these days mate. A good example would be at least $35k out here if you can find one. Then again if I wanted a big turbo I would and am having dangerous thoughts about getting another Falcon & having a 500hp at the wheels RWD weapon that is a comfortable daily driver.

I looked at a 208 Gti @BD9 but did not like the driving position. Disliked it enough to not even test drive it.

One I forgot to mention is the ever beautiful Renault 5. Besides loving big butts the 5 is a scary proposition to drive with that fucking pendulum at the back, micro wheelbase & ridiculous surge on boost from all reports. Well up there for me & I have only seen one in the flesh due to my location.

Wanna talk about toys? Here's my toy, the yellow SRT8 became
my wife's car when we got the Tesla. I still like to let it roar from time to time but
I must be honest, nothing can beat driving this electric beast. I named it BLORG the destroyer
wich is a pretty appropriate name I think

After a few weeks with my cbr400, I'm board already....

I was at the honda dealer getting a new key fob for my bike when I see this....

f54jWUsh.jpg

It's the last of the cbr600 before it's discontinued in the UK..

It's 9k... brand new....
They will take my cbr400 as deposit, Then it's just 200 a month for a while....

So so tempted.... this week is gonna be a week of thinking....

Bikes have moved on a long way in my 10 years out...
Wheely control angle...
Abs+duel braking...
Traction control...
Slide control....
Electronic smart steeeing dampers...
And ceramic coated paint...

I may own this bike, this time next week....

Trust me @kellya86 I too am tempted to get the "last of the V8 Interceptors" like you.

Took my baby for a service & was advised of a rear spoiler recall. When I picked it up two days later it was pouring rain so I could not inspect it. When I got home I had a quick look & was disgusted by what I saw. The panel gaps are off by 5mm & there is not only a dent in the spoiler but it is fucking warped. That is in addition to a couple of big paint runs to finish it off.

No one can explain how the fuck that passed the most rudimentary QC inspection before it was fitted to my car. Now the repairer is arguing with Renault as Renault claim their spoilers are not supplied warped. No cunt can give me a straight answer but it is pushing me to fuck this car off & buy a new one. Every dealing I have had with Renault has been appalling with the only consistent thing being their fucked up attitude.

It is always the little things that grate at me enough to change cars but I just put new rubber, 12 months rego & insurance on it so I may keep it for another few months but I am getting way too tempted by a SS Redline. Skip to 2.10 for the roar & driving.

@kellya86

That is a beaut!!!

She sure is.... think I'm going back to the dealer today.....

@Stevenski I know you pain my friend, iv had a few vehicles in my time that have been well and truly ruined by incompetent numpties...

Whatever you decide to do with regards to buying a new car, make sure that Renault put right their fuckup out of principle....

Renault are not well known for their great customer service here.....

I will be making damm sure of that. For all her faults I still smile when I drive Francine every single time . So conflicted as I have no need for a new car & don't want to have debt but there is an itch that needs scratching too.

To make matters worse there was a hail storm on Saturday & my car survived unscathed. My dad parked 5 miles away had his written off. A nice new for old replacement cheque is what I need . If I do buy another Renault it will never be new. I don't really give a fuck about depreciation but a new RS loses way too much straight out the door.

So you get the new bike?

I have no car. Even though I grew up in Detroit, I basically see them as more of a utensil (like a toaster or microwave) than something to fawn over.

If I were to move I would likely need to buy a car though, so I was looking around at options & think I would get a MINI convertible. Unfortunately they don't have an electric or hybrid model (though they are expected to in 2020)

Did this playing around building one online.

I am excited more than I thought was possible...
Iv never owned a new vehicle before...
This is a huge deal for me...

Now I have a week to make a house for it to live in...

Always been a fan of the Repsol color scheme!!!

........................................
So what's the redline on that bad-boy?
16,000???

Enjoy

Think it tops out at 15500....
I'm well aware it's not the fastest of bikes, not even of the 600s....
But it's top of the class for handling and feel, and that's more important to me...
Iv never been overly impressed my nailing it in a straight line...
It's all about corners for me, be it 4 wheels or 2....

@Stevenski my licence is clean as it stands..
And I'll make my number plate illegible to cameras....

Advice...
So ive been looking for a car for the past little while.
Been looking for nothing in particular.
Last car was an 01 Monte Carlo S/S before that a camaro.
Was looking to spend around 6k$ for something with less than 100k miles.and no 4cyl
There is some but not alot a few trailblazer a couple chargers Chrysler 300 then i found this 2011 SHO Taurus double my original 6k but cant stop thinking about this car. I caught the bug.
It's a twin turbo AWD pretty sure thats what's got me.12k on a car with 80k?
Is a twin turbo awd bad for a daily driver

The SHO is an awesome car. The Yamaha power plant is outstanding. I worked for Ford for a while and drove the SHO a few times, it was really fun! My manager owned one and he really liked it.

What are the maintenance records like? Is the service history documented? This would be my first question because I would want to make sure the Yamaha engine was serviced properly.

First things first you need to work out your parameters for purchasing. Some questions you should think about are
  • Documented service history at all the right intervals?
  • Medium, large or SUV style car?
  • RWD, FWD, AWD?
  • How old?
  • Auto or manual?
One thing I strongly suggest is if you are on a budget to buy a car make sure you get a common one. That way if you did need any parts or repairs in time the parts will be plentiful.

I don't know the US car market but having a quick look between $6-7k I would be looking at Chargers & Mustangs. The SHO sounds a bit of alright though.
