can some8ne tell me if it is better to send the crafty with fully loaded batteries or empty abroad...
The rechargeable batteries do not like being emptied all the way and left that way. Long term storage should be done at about 80%.

Everything I have ever read has said it's more like 40%.
You are probably correct, I am no battery expert by any means. I was just recounting something posted here in a battery specific thread. Different battery electrochemistries like different treatment and I do know they don't like to be run flat and stored that way.

Hey everybody i hope you are all keeping good...

In regards to cleaning the crafty is this a simple enough task?
strip it down so to speak, (when ever i am doing long distance travelling)
i will feel more comfortable knowing it will be spick and span..

It will not be legal here for many moons..

Having read several negative points in regards to the battery life of the crafty has not deterred me..
It will be on the go with me on a daily basis and sounds more practical than the mighty by way of size and stealthness, hoping it doesn't dissapoint. I am a volcano user which ofcourse doesnt fit in the pocket and is a bit noticable in the suitcase! Cheers for any info, superx

Just checked back here after moving on to the Mighty 6 months ago, and it looks like not much has changed! Upgrading to the Mighty was the right choice for me, no issues at all, no phone app, no waiting for blinking lights, no battery pack, just joy! I feel like the Mighty is the original design, performing as intended.
Btw, all four of my Craftys gave me 4 bowls per charge for the first few weeks, but then dropped to 3 bowls. My Mighty has been at 8 bowls for over 6 months!
Lastly, even when it runs down to empty, you can plug it in and keep going immediately, no wait for a 20% charge.
When S&B drops the next product I'll be there in a heartbeat. For all of you frustrated Crafty owners, I feel your pain; in the meantime, vape on!

Hi. I am looking at the crafty now and seriously considering getting one this month, the battery issue does concern me.. I haven't a clue what this below means could you let me know! Thanks superx

This shows the hours I vaped with the crafty. This is my 4th Crafty in 2 years , but Storz always sent me a new one when it stopped working. In my opinion the crafty is the perfect on the go Vape, if you Vape a lot take the mighty or if you're vaping all the time choose the Volcano! I'm using the crafty with the set temperatures 180/195 and I have no battery issues except the heat up time will increase when the battery gets older!

Crafty connects to phone app via bluetooth and this can control temps & lights, plus readouts like the one shown.

So I guess as of last month or so, Crafty's warranties are starting to end. Anyone have experience with this yet? I'm on my 4th Crafty v2.10 has 120 hr so far. It's only issue is for some reason it turns on when I plug it in. It's a fault but not sure if its enough for them to replace. My 2 years is up in March.

Overall these 2 years have been good when I'm able to use it out of the house, but having to go through a new one every 6 months is awful, especially when I've had my volcano for 6 years with it being on for at least 3 of those years collectively 25% of that time on 9. Volcano is a beast so I bought Crafty but it's just not reliable enough (although it runs battery so it would never last as long). Not sure Id recommend and I tell everyone about its failures when they ask me is it worth.

I suggest that you send it in and request an upgrade to Mighty. Yours is malfunctioning, that should be covered. Even though you'll soon be out of warranty, a Mighty could very well last you a couple more years.

Thanks a lot people for the reply,

The volcano i already have, best Xmas present ever....( using the magic flight box the past 18mths or so)
Not to take anything away from the MfB but the volcano restored my faith in humanity lol & freed me from smoking...

Having looked at the portables umpteenth times, my mind is set on the crafty....

It does seem every vape has its problems in one way are another and might not be suited for all, Teething problems at the most(especially portables) it will all come good in the end...

Take care....

I bought a crafty recently from a previous owner. It is is perfect condition, looks like new. According to the app it has 8 hours of use on it. I have been reading about all these known issues and was wondering if you can transfer a warranty through S&B? If not, then maybe I should sell it before any issues start to rear it's ugly head.

Late to the party here but to get this straight, does the data confirm that there's basically a 100% failure rate for rhe Crafty? Even for new units purchased today? Did s&b come up w/ a real fix or do they just have a service bulletin based on planned obsolescence and repeated warranty fixes?

Hi all, I'm turning 74 next month. I discovered weed the year I turned 70. Smoked it at first for two years. Bought a Crafty from S&B in July 2015. It failed (orange, red lights) in December 2016 with 41 hours use.
While it was being replaced under warranty I read this whole thread and some other threads. My new unit has 3 hours on it in about 4 weeks and I haven't had to clean it with ISO yet, but I have changed the concentrate pad once.

My vaping technique is as follows:
I am experimenting with micro dosing.
I vape 10-14 sessions per week.
Each session lasts 3-4 minutes (including heat up) with 4-6 pulls about 5 seconds each.
One or two of the draws are after the unit is off before it cools.
I vape at 174c with boost set to 14c to finish bowl at 188c.
I medium grind with the S&B plastic grinder and use 6-7 milligrams per session.
I lightly pack and then cover the flower with a concentrate pad to minimize gunk in the cooling tower.
If I want two sessions from one bowl I load 12-15 milligrams.
I brush out the ABV as the unit is cooling down.
I recharge after 4-5 sessions.
I plan to 99% ISO clean monthly with approximately 1/8 oz. weed used.
I have 4 pads and will replace or ISO clean the pad every other week.
I turned vibration off when I got the new unit for battery and reliability.

I feel fortunate to have a vape that works so well for me.
With good flowers I get good aroma, flavor, good solid vapor, and low draw resistance.
On the universal scale I get to a 3-4 high (my preference) and sometimes a 5.
My high tapers down over 3-4 hours.
I am now using 62% humidity pads to freshen up some older flowers.
I would prefer to live in a legal state with lower prices and supply choices.

Welcome @Little Bill !

When I first got my Crafty, I used a pad as a spacer. But I didn't like the way it would pull apart and get dirty. So I tried using a pipe screen instead (somebody here suggested it, I wish I remembered who...).

Just cut a wedge out of a pipe screen, like a pie slice. Draw the 2 edges together to form a cone, and push it in the oven as your spacer. I found this much easier to use and keep clean.

Have you ever tried this?

I've read about the screens, but I won't fix what isn't broken.
Using the pads and loving the results. No pulling apart and no bowl scratches; use a pick to get the pad out of the bowl. Clean occasionally with ISO 99% and rinse in warm water. I would not use a pad with a full bowl; but I can recommend it when vaping .2 gm. or less.

Like I said I've read/scanned every post in this thread; so I've heard all about pad problems including taste, smells, draw resistance. I have not experienced any of these problems when I have kept up good cleaning practices. Thanks Mr.Me2 I have read, enjoyed, and learned from your postings in this thread and others.

Hi, @Little Bill

A Happy 74th!

A Senior convert, by a septuagenarian! Congrats!

Was it medicinal, I wonder, or did you find happiness in a centuries old tradition.:sherlock:

At any rate, welcome to FC, hope you don't get caught up in the VAS maelstrom. It's fun.:ugh:

BTW! Youth is a state of mind. & with a good Vape, one can't fail.

@Mr. Me2 can you elaborate on the pie shaped screen? Why would you use a cone instead of just a circle to lay on top of chamber? Call me stupid, but I can't visualize it. :uhoh:

A standard pipe screen is wider than the diameter of the Crafty oven. By cutting a wedge out (so the remainder looks like pac man) and pulling the ends together reduces its diameter to better fit the oven.

Plus the cone shape gives it depth to better act as a spacer. And I've found this cone shape makes it easier to insert and remove...no tools needed!

I don't know if you've tried a pax, but some (me included) have used a folded screen to act as a spacer. For me it's for mostly the same reasons (easier to manage than a screen cut to size).

Hope this helps and answers your questions!
